Reason the video is like it is is because Freddie was very ill and his appearance was changing, he didn't want the public to see the change, the voice however, still legendary.

A masterpiece, as sick as Freddie was his voice still had so much power. He was determined to leave us with as much music as he could possibly record before he passed. He is so missed.

Hi Stacey. I second the comment from FxBigfoot6. Brian May does the acoustic break midway through this with Steve Howe playing the flamenco (among his numerous specialties) track above. Steve & Brian are contemporaries with Steve having turned 77 in April and Brian just made 77 in July. Steve's band Yes is recommended highly by myself as well. Yes & Queen were always bumping into each other at Trident Studios in London and at Mountain Studios (which Queen bought and made their own) in Montreux, Switzerland. Over the years this lead to Steve Howe playing on this song. You stay classy, Stacey...

One thing to remember: Freddie was very ill around this time. He was in a lot of pain, could barely stand, felt at times like he was, well, Going Slightly Mad. But that VOICE! Freddie at deaths door was still at least as good as anyone else at 100%.

In my opinion it was the peak of his vocal capabilities. Obviously, his voice was already near perfect, but there's something about the later songs where his vocals have so much emotional depth behind them that I strongly prefer.
@proofprof50
@proofprof50 Ай бұрын
@@satfat1232I completely agree with that assessment. Even though his early work concentrated more on Aretha Franklin's influence, I would say that his voice took on a more plaintive tone toward the end. Even though the earlier work resonates more with me because that's what I was exposed to, not to mention the fact that I saw them in Mexico in 1981, later on, he reached for the stars and you could feel it... Barcelona, etc.

Innuendo is in my opinion one of the greatest songs ever written. Freddie Mercury hit those notes while at deaths door and it's incredible to know that he gave it his all. Also, such power in his voice even as he was very ill at the time of recording this album. The whole album is a masterpiece.

it was also a big time return to the oldskool, after years of increasingly poppy songs by Queen. for longtime fans, "Innuendo" was like returning to the mother's womb, proof the guys still had some serious music in them. at the time, all of my buddies were musicians. and literally everyone said: "...Queen, Innuendo!!" it brought the band a truckload of new respect from fans, and critics. 🙂

Innuendo! This is just another example of how you can barely associate Queen to just one or two genres. Like you said (and very well) Queen is basically its own genre and absolutely no band or artist will ever sound even similar! Such a true anthem of music composition and pure art - besides its own meaning and possible interpretations.

Not really the last one, "The Show Must Go On" is even more intense, it was release a few days before his passing... But it was not even the last song he recorded, he did more for the posthumous "Made in Heaven" album, his very last song is "Mother love", that he could not even finish (Brian is singing the last part)... and like in "The Show Must Go On", his voice in these last songs is just amazing...

I've commented elsewhere in the comments regarding the Flamenco part. May I recommend, what I consider to be their greatest accomplishment, but few people have heard it. It just happens to be on the same album as Bohemian Rhapsody, and was on the other side of the LP, people overlook it. It's called "The Prophet's Song" and it's Brian's magnum opus. The lyrics are complete genius, inspired by a dream Brian had with religious overtones. The mid-section was a technical marvel, because they created the echos, using long strips of tape and multiple tape players rather then the Echoplexes they used in concert to replicate. They eventually moved the performance of that part to "White Man" in concert. Just know, you're missing pure genius until you hear it.

According to Steve Howe: Inside, there’s Freddie, Brian and Roger all sitting together. They go: ‘Let’s play you the album’. Of course, I’m hearing it for the first time […] And they saved "Innuendo" itself until last. They played it and I was fucking blown away. They all chimed in: ‘We want some crazy Spanish guitar flying around over the top. Improvise!’ I started noodling around on the guitar, and it was pretty tough. After a couple of hours, I thought: ‘I’ve bitten off more than I can chew here’. I had to learn a bit of the structure, work out what the chordal roots were, where you had to fall if you did a mad run in the distance; you have to know where you’re going. But it got towards evening, and we’d doodled and I’d noodled, and it turned out to be really good fun. We have this beautiful dinner, we go back to the studio and have a listen. And they go: ‘That’s great. That’s what we wanted’.

For the video Stopmotion was used, made by DoRo productions, and Freddie appears drawn in the same style of Leonardo da Vinci, Brian in the style of Claude Monet, Roger in the style of Jackson Pollock and John in the style of Pablo Picasso; the acoustic guitar (flamenco) was played by Steve Howe of the band Yes, and the song is written by Roger Taylor for Freddie who at that time was going through the last stage of AIDS, you could say that the song is the Bohemian Rhapsody of the 90's. 'Innuendo' was the last Queen album released in 1991 just before Freddie Mercury died... The song 'innuendo' is rather dark track, given that Freddie Mercury was dying when he recorded it. Brian May (guitar) recalled that Freddie couldn't work for long cos he was so sick (from AIDS) but he sang like he never had before when he could in the studio... Steve Howe (guitarist of Yes) played the middle Spanish guitar section as a guest musician. Freddie Mercury was too ill to film the music video, so Queen used old video footage for this clip... John Deacon (bass) is absent for some reason (Speculation was that he didn't give the rights to use his image)

This song is the peak of Queen's magic and creativity, it is one of the best if not the best song of the group but by far. Freddy here is like a "fish in water", brilliant, magnificent and raising the register of his voice to new heights, but the other boys are not far behind. The drums, bass and especially Brian May's guitar sound out of this world, and the most incredible thing is that this song was made at the time when Freddy was already sick and in his last moments on this existential plane. There you realize that the passion for music never, but never left Freddy even in the condition in which he found himself. I think these songs, these stories behind their protagonists, these performances make Queen the best musical group of all time. God save the queen!

Back in the early 1970s I was in Junior High School. Whenever I had a few bucks I would take the bus downtown after school and go to a record store that sold new as well as used albums. One day I ran into a kid that I knew from school. He said, "have you seen this?" He held up Queen's first album, saying "These guys are supposed to be the new Led Zeppelin." I bought a copy. I was captivated. It was a very short time after that that Queen II came out. To this day Side Black of that album is one of my absolute favorite pieces of music. Decades later I was with a group of friends and the question came up, "Who is the best band?" A difficult question. We eventually decided this - Best rock and roll band; Aerosmith. Best heavy metal band; Led Zeppelin. And then there was THE best band; Queen.

I've always seen this song as a rejection of negativity and an appeal to optimism. The first verse speaks to the frailty and fleeting moments of life - despite this every generartion keeps on trying to make life better for future generations. The second verse to me recognises how unfair and impassive life and nature can be, and that no matter the horrors humanity has wrought upon others, we keep trying to move forward. No matter our flaws and no matter our fears ,we keep on trying. The interlude is lively and driving, and seems to be a celebration and encouragement to others to enjoy yourself and celebrate the time you have. The final verse points out that the existence of Gods, religions, superstitions or the concept of ethics is irrevelant - humans keep on trying and will continue to do so forever

"Love of my Life" - Live in Montreal 1981 has gotta be next. Love your channel. One of Freddie's true gems that will absolutely move you to tears is "Love of My Life". One of his very best renditions is his live performance in 1981 in Montreal. Unlike a lot of later performances (Wembley, Rio, etc.) he sings the entire song in Montreal rather than splitting it with the audience, which while entertaining, takes away from the impact of the song. This one (Live in Montreal 1981) is raw, emotional, beautiful, captivating, heart-breaking. I'm a 61 year old man, and I can't listen to this song - particularly this (Montreal) rendition - without crying. I'm reminded of the love of MY life (from whom I've been apart now for more than two years) who doesn't know what she meant - and still means - to me . 😢💔 That said - please please react to Queen: "Love of my Life" - Live in Montreal 1981.

The flamenco guitar part was played by Steve Howe from the group Yes. I had the same feeling that after 14 years, they produced something comparable to Bohemian Rhapsody. This was released in 1989, when due to Freddie's deteriorating health, they decided to stick to just making albums, so it never got sung by him live. Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin performed it at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert with the remaining members of Queen in 1992.

3:23 recorded in his last months.. this was supposed to be the next bohemian Rhapsody.. also put somewhat like a mash up of songs put together as one, and it has to the second the same length as Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie sang this as a dying man.. litterally.. unbelievable !!! The album Innuendo is a great epitaph and a well put toghter goodbeye to their friend. They lived in the recording studio over a year to make sure to be ready when Freddie had a good moment. The Show must go on he did in one take, downed some glasses of vodka against the pains and singing he did.. then few days nothing happening, and then freddie would have a good day again.. feeling he ran out of time, he'd do 4 takes of any line for a song, so that the remaining Queen members could pick the right one..if he wouldn't be alive when the mix would be made.. What a performer, and what dignity he kept knowing the end drew near...

Great reaction. You need to watch White Queen live at Hammer Odeon 1975. The guitar and piano interplay is ethereal with the drums and bass keeping them grounded. A masterpiece early in their career. Also react to Save Me live in Montreal. Brian plays the piano with his guitar in his lap. Midway through the song he jumps on his guitar and Freddie comes running down the steps to pick up playing the piano and his voice never misses a beat. Dragon Attack is also awesome from this same concert.

This video won the award for most innovative video the year it was released. The Spanish guitar part is played by Brian and Steve Howe (Yes Band). Howe thought Queen was crazy to let him play on the title track and at first he was not sure he could actually do the part they wanted him to. He practiced a bit and totally nailed it. I love this song and video. Written by Roger and Freddie. March of the Black Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody and Innuendo are a trillogy of songs that define the master minds of this band. Each one is a stepping stone to the next. Thank you for your reaction.

The song reflects the spiritual questioning that inhabits a lot of the later Queen songs such as Show must go on, these are the days of our lives and are very powerful lyrically as they exemplify what emotions Freddie was going through at this difficult time.

Everytime i see this final album of Queen on social media , i remember the interview which Brian May gave in 2001 , he said that him and Freddie was spending time together in a recording studio while making new songs , Brian in Freddie's own words - keep writing new songs , i know that i don't have much time left. That was the last time than Brian and Freddie spend time together in a studio 💔💔💔 , during that time Brian wrote a song , which will be your next reaction while continue the rocking musical journey of Queen , the song is called Mothers Love 💔💔💔

Hi Stacey. I'm a Queen lifelong fan. I was lucky enough to see them at Liveaide 85 and the Magic tour in 86 at Wembley Stadium. You are just starting the Queen journey. There are so many fantastic songs to explore. Here are some I would suggest for you to review. These are the days of our lives, Who wants to live forever, The show must go on, Made in heaven, Under pressure, Kind of Magic, Radio Gaga, Barcelona and Love of my life in Rio

GREAT reaction Stacey!! My #1 Queen track, I get chills every time hearing it...Innuendo has everything that they did best! The operatic, prog, rock, hard, soft, Flamenco (courtesy of Yes' Steve Howe!), harmonies - and of course, Freddie's vocals!! (RIP) This album was his swan song, and what an exit he made! Totally agree, Brian's guitar enters my soul here! The video was pretty awesome too - it's actually how I got to first hear this song! I remember getting this album (cassette) for Christmas from my parents! What a gift! This track opened the album, I HIGHLY recommend the closing track in The Show Must Go On! If you thought Freddie's vocals were on point here, just wait until you hear that one!! Cheers!

Love this song and this album. Freddie poured out everything for this album, as shown in this song. Such powerful lyrics and stunning vocals. Another must-see from this album is “The Show Must Go On”. So powerful and emotional. I have no idea how Freddie could perform like this being as sick as he was. So sad

Innuendo was such a great album, easily in Queen's top 5, imho. Brian May has worked with and is respected by some of progressive rock's best guitarists (Steve Howe, from Yes, is on the flamenco section, and Steve Hackett, from Genesis, was a collaborator of his too). From this album are also worth checking out "The Show Must Go On" and "These Are the Days of Our Lives"!

I've been a Queen fan ever since I can recall (at least since i was 5) so for 40+ years. In my opinion, March of the Black Queen was the pre-curser to Bohemian Rhapsody. And Bo-Rhap was the pre-cursor to Innuendo. The 3 best compositions of their musical career (that is not to say that any other of their songs is better or worse - there are some phenomenal tracks) but the composition of this particular song is a masterpiese. As Freddie was quite sick at the time of Innuendo being released the video clips of the various singles were all different styles. This one takes some classic images from other videos and live performances and compiles them into a visual symphony to compliment the audial one we hear. Thanks for reacting to, and enjoying all the Queen tracks that you do Stacey. At 45 Freddie was taken way too soon :(

Nobody will ever put Queen into a certain genre... It's like trying to nail jelly to a post. G. O. A. T what ever they do. If you haven't done their earlier stuff you really must, if you want 'soft' try 'you take my breath away' that's beautiful. ❤❤❤❤ The next best thing is Freddie singing with Montserrat Cabelle where he dips his toes into Opera(right upto his knees 😊) it will blow your mind! Love your reactions BTW x

I still remember when I asked you to react to this song on the stream, you couldn't yet know what a marvel it was. And now that you've listened to it, I'm delighted that it touched you this much. This song also features one of Brian May's best solos. The lyrics are also so deep, that's how you recognize a masterpiece, it's that it can stand the test of time and still be relevant today. BIG UP Stacey Bye'n'cha ☺👋
