Tron is such a cool franchise that focuses a lot on how they build the digital world of the Grid. Today, I wanted to take a look at the video game that was meant to be a tie in prequel to the film Tron: Legacy, Tron: Evolution and by extention, all the other version of Tron: Evolution like Battle Grids that came out at the same time but had different gameplay style and more impoirtantly, more lore for Tron's overall story. Yeah, each one of these games under the same name were pretty different... weird. Anyway, let's take a look at Tron: Evolution!
Want to learn about the Tron: Legacy prequel Cartoon that came out after Tron: Legacy but filled in some incredible lore between Tron: Evolution and that film? Check out my video on my other channel here to learn all about Tron: Uprising, what happened to it and more: • The SAD Downfall of Tr...

I worked on this game. Propaganda was pretty much on life support when we made it. They'd laid off everyone and cancelled all other projects. A core group of us that were left made this game in about 12 months. Which is crazy considering the scope. Full story mode and multiplayer. Although it didnt do well, we had a great team working on it.

So it’s been a hot minute since I played the games, so correct me if I’m wrong here. If I remember correctly, in Tron Evolution Battle Grids (the Wii one) you play an ISO, trying to win the championship, ultimately becoming the first ISO to do so. In Tron Evolution (the main one) we are told through the memory shards of the identity disc that Abraxas (the corrupted main villain of the game) was the first ISO to win the championship before he became corrupted. Therefore technically, we are playing Abraxas in Tron Evolution Battlegrids, making some events of Tron Evolution all the more tragic

Yes, I’d say that would be correct unfortunately.

@alexfirefly1956
@alexfirefly1956 Жыл бұрын
@@buccham6354 so I just read the wiki to confirm your take and you are right. When Abraxas was an ISO (named Jalen) he was competing in the tournament, but when he was discovered to be an ISO he was disqualified. However he was then reinstated into the tournament by CLU (for alterier reasons) and became champion. Here’s the thing. In Battle Grids there’s (as far as I remember) no disqualification plot and no reinstatement into the game for the main character. However when winning, they are claimed to be the first ISO to win the championship. Additionally, Jalen‘s disqualification from the games wouldn’t make sense if there was already an ISO that won the championship before, therefore he too must be the first ISO to have won the championship, leading to a contradiction between the games, which should make one non-canon, which would end up to be Battle Grids (I mean for the most part it should already be, considering you are playing as your own avatar, which makes it already kinda weird that you are playing an ISO). But, if both are canon, and the disqualification storyline is just missing from Battle Grids (for whatever reasons), my assessment of you technically playing as Jalen/Abraxas in Battle Grids is correct. Maybe we are playing through the memories of Jalen, while they are being corrupted by his reprogramming into Abraxas leading to inconsistencies and memories missing.

Great video! My company made the PSP version! So many challenges in getting the game done in time with the movie release. Disney actually commissioned a company to create an entire lore and backstory to set up the movies, but it was abandoned. Our game originally had more tie-ins to the origination of the ISO storyline planned, but we had written our narrative based on that backstory that was dropped, so we had to simplify it way down. We elected to just set it within a game tournament on the grid, so that we could be safe from outside story changes after that. We also had a goal to set a visual style that fell between the original film and the new one, to give a look at an earlier part of the evolution of the visual style that started in 1982. Our game was supposed to be set in 1985 (closer in the timeline to the original) and we had a whole bunch of great character concepts that tied closer to the original film, especially the guard characters. More along the lines of what the animated series did later. We made several test levels and samples in various styles, but ultimately Disney decided it should just look like the new movie. The only problem was, we couldn't see the movie, or even much art from it. We had a few concepts to go from, and had to fill in the gaps! Even with all the challenges, I LOVED working on this game! I've been a massive Tron fan since I was a kid, and this project was a dream come true. I even got to write for, and direct Bruce Boxleitner for the VO! We managed to do the entire game from scratch in about 9 months.

I believe there was a Tron first person shooter game that came out during the PS2 era. And though they're not canon, it would be remiss to not mention when Tron was featured in the Kingdom Hearts series. KH2 had a Tron level based on the original film. And Dream Drop Distance had a level based on Legacy.
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor Жыл бұрын
Do you remember TRON 2.0? First person TRON game made before there was any whispers of a sequel movie, it served as a sequel and was actually pretty fun. It had a good variety of levels, including one that took place on a PDA, so the whole level was very claustrophobic. All the weapons were based on simple primative shapes modified as you went along. It was a unique and innovative game that told a story that was as good a sequel to TRON as we ever thought we were going to get... until we got a sequel to TRON that ignored Tron2.0. But I still remember it fondly. By comparison... this felt like a movie tie in.

Tron, the franchise Disney kept trying to make a thing but just never had a big enough audience to make it a thing.
@zeanyt2372
@zeanyt2372 Жыл бұрын
That's because they went around making a audience and fandom the wrong way. You don't just go "here have BIG shiny thing. We spent a fortune on it, and under hyped it. Like it! LIKE IT!!!" If they want a audience, they need to get the audience involved. And a game is a great way to do that. But it has to be great, and it has to come first, it has to be compelling. And most importantly, just as the hype for the game starts to fade, announce the movie. I'm thinking MMO RPG set in the grid, preferably in the uprising art style(it's fun and dynamic, and not graphically intensive). Not just a good game. No, a masterpiece. Like Spider man for ps5. This way you don't just have a good audience, you have a captive audience. One that's begin for a theatrical release. Then hit them with a movie like legacy, but with more action and polish.

It’ll get there. The concept is too good. It just needs a breakthrough product. Timing is everything in film/TV. I think TRON could work as a show, as UPRISING was so good. The virtual sets that The Mandalorian uses could work for TRON, in a way to keep production costs down.

I still play this game an absurd amount and can confirm that the gameplay is by far its best on hard mode with all upgrades. Enemies die much too easily from basic attacks on normal, but are so tanky on insane that you should only use heavy slam. Combat is by far its most fun if you stay moving. The stasis running attack gives you a shield that stays up while you sprint, so you can still do running and parkour attacks while invincible. There’s a lot more depth than is readily apparent, and it makes the game addictively fun.

I don't know if you've played it or have access, but you should make a video on the PC Tron 2.0 game! It was the original canon sequel to the original and featured a few actors from the original reprising their roles. I personally think it's a much better and more complex sequel than Legacy, but of course that makes sense with a video game being a much longer and more interactive medium that can be used to tell a bigger story.

7:35. I liked the tank battles for two reason: They give a ton of EXP and A nice change of pace, after falling into the same hole 100 times because I can´t maked that stupid jump.

Loved this game, especially multiplayer maps with light cycles, but I always did better with the disc combat side of multiplayer. Absolutely love the xp shared between multiplayer and campaign

I played a couple of years later and actually really enjoyed it. Im not a fan of movie games but I feel the stigma of being one also affected it's sales.

I don't know how it would work, but I am convinced that Disney needs to keep an eye on vr. With Echo VR finding a work-around after Meta deciding to can it, Tron can step in with small tie-in demos. Able's Garage, the area in Arjia where Radia was derezzed, and social locations would be great settings for VR homes and mini games.

So, just to check if TON 2.0 can still be bought on Steam, I typed TRON there, and... Apperantly there is gonna be a visual novel called Tron: Identity?

If my friends had a Wii growing up, I ALWAYS brought Battle Grids with me. The Light Cycle Races & Arenas and the Light Runner arena battles had us hooked for hours! On top of the fact that there were customizable party rules and even cheats that changed trail and even jump height, the game had a deceptive amount of longevity. Less can be said for the scoop ball and disk battle games, but it was pretty clear they put a lot of their effort into the ones they knew would be fun. Kind of disappointing that Evolution sold so poorly because Battle Grids completely slapped.

Classic game. Classic movie. The sequel, Tron: Legacy, is also my favorite movie. These were revolutionary in CGI and special effects, incredible.

I would highly recommend anyone on PC to play this via an emulator. Running this game on 4k looks absolutely insane, and it even holds up to modern games graphics wise.

This was one of those games I'd tell my friends about and they wouldn't know what I was talking about. Even today, the only Tron game I hear people talking about is tron 2.0 . But I enjoyed this game. The movement was really fun. But if it wasn't for kingdom hearts 2 shining a spotlight on TRON, I probably wouldn't be a fan today or even know it existed since the original film was before my time and pretty obscure.

I enjoyed Tron: Evolution on PS3, but the controls were a little dodgey I found. Still, because the package was appealing, I got into it and had fun. Also played the PSP version, and Battlegrids on the Wii. My kids and I played that one together a lot! Yet, I couldn't believe that I played 3 different Tron games all tied to Legacy, and not one of them had the option to fly a light-jet. WTF.
