I was the exact opposite, I would write down the orders, separated and numbered by guest then draw a small table diagram of where everyone was seated. Sometimes even decorated the numbers a bit with physical traits of the guest in question for easy recognition if they switched places. Never got an order wrong and would get unusually large tips because of it. Edit: It was an arab restaurant, arabs can be very generous tippers if you treat them right and unobtrusively. I also made an effort to learn the dish names in their arabic pronounciation.

@Albtraum_TDDC2 жыл бұрын
@@EllionGrey it depends on the store. To keep the writing and paper use to a minimum what small stores do is write down the order and give that paper to the kitchen, who make the food and then give it to the cashier who makes the receipt. Or in more organized stores they do it differently. I work in a pizza PoS development so what they do in our program is they take the order directly on a tablet or a computer_station (though that is more for self-service) and when the order is finalized it gets sent automatically to the kitchen and the cashier. There's absolutely no reason for any server to memorize anything usually. But it does depend on how simple the menu is too. Also I guess if they don't have tablets (but still do more than self-service) and have to actually go back to the station to put in the order then they do have to write it down or memorize it.

As a waiter myself, I wanna say this is so insanely accurate. I usually don’t have any issues taking orders for tables up 10 or so people (did 18 people once, but usually don’t wanna take chances like that). The main problem is when guests starts asking stuff like “you’re not gonna write it down?”. It really messes up my rhythm. And it’s frankly quite insulting to question someone’s ability to do their job like that. That said, I always carry a notepad incase I feel the orders are getting too much with tonnes of additions and allergies and stuff. Especially allergies, because that shit is NEVER ok to mess up.
@Taylormade23502 жыл бұрын

@@Taylormade2350 I mean… I “only” have 13 years in hospitality… but this has literally happened to me exactly like that. Yes, it’s not everyday stuff, but it does happen. Only difference is that I didn’t run out the door, I picked up my notepad and said “aight, you got me, i’ll write it down”

@@Whiskypapa this is extremely over played and overdramatic. I guarantee this has not happened to you on this scale and is nowhere near realistic.
@Whiskypapa2 жыл бұрын
@@Taylormade2350 yeah, it’s called overplaying for comedic effect… it’s a sketch… The core idea of the sketch is still accurate. You can guarantee all you want, but since you don’t know me and most likely live in a different country, with different restaurant culture (not to mention there can even be big differences between the clientele in neighbouring restaurants), I’m gonna go ahead and trust my own memories instead of random stranger on the internet. You are making deductions based on own experiences to make worldwide generalisations. Example: If your whole life, you only see white swans, you can say for certain that white swans exist. You can not, however, say that every swan is white, because suddenly you find yourself in Australia and looking straight at some black swans. However, I will concede that my original comment could have used the addition of “accurate in MY experience”, just so it doesn’t seem like I’m saying that every waiter on the planet goes through this. I obviously don’t believe that to be the case.

Only one waitress, and I'm pretty sure the people in the back were goblins. Anyway, there were eight of us, and we all gave her our orders. She didn't write any of them down. My dad asked her three times if she wanted to write them down, and that we could repeat them. She said no, she got it. She clearly didn't. Between being the only waitress and trying to memorize orders for several different tables, I'm surprised she didn't hulk smash something. Our food came out, and absolutely none of the orders were right. Not even close. We didn't go back there to eat.
