I have come through this path 4 times in my L-40 4.1 draft without issue. One recommendation is to plot a route the night before on you plotter. Those pink explorer recommended lines are had to stay on and are zoom sensitive. You plotter can literally put a road up for you. Any time you build a route always zoom all the way in and run the route to insure there is nothing in the way. Chart detail is always better zoomed in. Cheers

Thanks so much for the info!!! I think Rob has learned the route planning and we finally use it. We’ve watched others that did not zoom in and had catastrophic disasters- o e of my worst nightmares, hence my hesitancy toward shallow waters! Happy New Year!

I’m very impressed with you guys. You’ve tackled a lot of things and had hiccups that would grind down many, and yet you still keep bobbing up to the surface and smiling at good times ahead (to mix a few metaphors 😁). Thanks so much for generously sharing it all with us. Nice video quality too btw. I hope this new year brings great times for you all.

Nicely done! How often would you say you do crossings like that (5ish hours)? And how often do you stay anchored either percentage wise or number of days? Cheers and happy new year!🎉
@SailingParadiseFalls
@SailingParadiseFalls 8 ай бұрын
It is honestly, all dictated by the weather. We were stuck for 6 days in that neighborhood so we were all ready to move. If it’s a nice island with hiking, snorkeling, etc we sat 3-5 days the move on. Some islands are an hour and others longer. In Dec, we only moved twice due to weather for a total of 8hrs. Your anchored probably 85% of the time😊 Thanks for your questions!

I am really enjoying your videos and being part of your adventures, and I don’t want to be critical, but if someone, even a kid, yells “stop the engines” it would make sense to stop, or at least shift into neutral, before asking why.
@SailingParadiseFalls
@SailingParadiseFalls 8 ай бұрын
Yes, I see you point but we know our son and he can be very dramatic. He had also yelled stop right before that so he could get a picture. We have discussed with him why it is important to remain calm and only scream during a real emergency. Thank you for taking the time to comment and following our journey!! Happy New Year!

Hey guys, I'm definitely interested in following your journey and have been since you started the channel. But I have to say that the vlogging of absolutely all the minutia of every little step or moment can be exhausting to watch and follow along. Sure, you need some kind of content to make up an episode, however, it's a little too much IMO. So maybe have a shorter video with less minutia and then cover the highlights, rather than going on and on about every little detail , like painfully watching you leaving the fuel dock for 5 minutes like it's a major ordeal (it's not... really, you got that and we understand you're just trying to figure it out and finally did it like a boss! 😺). That also leads me to mentioning another subject where leaving the camera on the counter top and then bending down to speak to your audience, feels like we are little kids that your talking to. So I suggest changing that to eye level when talking to the camera (sort of like your helm positioning). Finally, just shut down the blinking engines, put up the sails and go sail that beautiful boat. You'll learn as you go. Cheers!

Thank you very much for your constructive feedback. I’m very excited to have you following our journey. I never really thought how it would make people feel to sit the camera on the counter. It’s honestly, just the easiest place to put the camera without holding it. I really don’t intend for our videos to be more than raw, real life us. Those are the memories that I want to look back on and for anyone that watches can see the minutia of daily life on a boat. We are not about having a flashy highlight real but want to remember subtle details of our days. We dont need KZbin to support us. We have enough money to support us for the next 3-4yrs. If people do watch our videos & we do earn money that’s awesome but not my goal. I enjoy filming, trying to get better and putting our memories together. If it helps people see real life on a boat - even better. Just fast forward through the minutia if you desire, I’m cool with that. I will find a better place to film other than the countertop though thanks to your suggestion. I truly appreciate your comments and wish you a very Happy New Year!

I have the same anti-nausea wristband and will use it on a Bahamas sailing trip on a cat. How have your found it to work? Any tips? I do have Bonime (sp) tablets as well. Seems like you are taking the same Bahamas route as the Gone with the Wynns couple did several yrs ago.

I do think the Emeterm makes a big difference. We have two now for backup bc the battery on level 5 only last 4ish hours. Stock up on meclizine (generic Bonine) on Amazon too. I’ve also found being well hydrated is key and avoiding coffee. I’ll go back and look at the Wynns videos- we love them. I thought they spent more time in Exumas but not for sure. Thanks for your comment!!

They were certainly newbies back then. On another note, if you eventually head south to Eleuthera and are thinking about heading for Dunmore Town, the Wynns went outside and avoided the Devil's Backbone from Spanish Wells. Another YT cruiser, MJ Sailing, did motor the Devil's Backbone, but only after using their AIS to plot the daily ferry's track thru the channel every 20-30 seconds. They then followed that track on their chartplotter with their sailboat, with someone at bow looking for bommies, - worked out fine. You can hire a local captain to motor your boat thru the channel, but expensive.@@SailingParadiseFalls
