To everyone commenting on the cats which is a rare priveledge, the majority of cats that criminals have would have been put down in a "shelter" or saved from being drowned in a bag in a river as kittens by psychos. The selection process is also extremely in depth to make sure the pairing will benefit both animals. It has so many benefits to have pet insentives I won't bother listing them. If you think it's tough on a cat to be with someone who dotes over them 23/7 while ignoring huge cat meat industries in places like China you may need to expand your knowledge, reasoning and compassion yourself. I think pet programmes in prison have changed the infrastructure and saved more lives than most can fathom.

It takes a minute or so to die, that minute must have seemed like a life time. She most likely witnessed her mother going through the same process. You can't rehabilitate a man who would do something like that. The money it cost to keep this monster under lock and key burns up every dime 20 taxpayers pay each year. Wonder how the victims family members feel knowing the guy has a tv, a pet, exercise eqt, three squares a day knowing their loved ones in rotting in the ground. I’ve seen several of your programs and they’re all well done. As a nurse I cared for several inmates in the regular hospital and I must say - they were my best patients. Polite, grateful for anything I did for them and I tried to reciprocate by talking with them to encourage them to be the best person they could be and to use all the educational resources that correctional facility might offer. I know at least one of the prisoners was doing time for murder and he was about the same age as my son who was around 19 at that time. He was African American and he and I talked quite a bit - I told him I understood that he probably didn’t have the advantages that my own children had had so I wasn’t judging the decisions that led him to where he currently was. By the time he was to be discharged, he told me was going to look into what the place offered to get an education. He told me he wanted to be able to travel when he got out and I told him getting that education would go a long way to making that dream a reality. I don’t know if any of what I talked about with those mostly young men really made impression but the cycle has to be broken. I still occasionally think about them. I remember one of them wanted me to become a regular visitor and sadly, I told him I would not be able to do that. And not because he wasn’t a worthwhile person but because I’d be moving on down the road so to speak as a travel nurse. I don’t know. Seems like if our government spent more time, effort and money, perhaps we could find some of the root causes that lead to violence and crimes that occur with that. Prevention might cost more in the beginning but surely would cost less in the end.

Didnt see a person on death row who's begging for sympathy! If you see the world in a 2 dimensional way, it's your issues ...work on that, before judging others.. if you grew up in comfortable situations, good for you..but many dont and many reserve to violence when they get older..ITS HUMANITY and you're no different, if we dig deeper.. If ure able to calm yourself down, in tough situations, that's great..but many were never taught to process their emotions in a healthy way, so they reserved to harming others in return! "Hurt people, hurt people "ever hurt that phrase ?? Yeah, as simple as it gets! But something tells me youd do the same, in any given moment ..human being is made to snap, that's our nature ..like I said, processing emotions in a healthy way is preferred, but many didnt have anyone to teach them that. The barber is very chatty, and talks nonstop while he works. When he finishes, he asks the man what his crime was. The offender says, "My old barber talked too much and it got on my nerves. Killing a kid is without a question death sentence. No merce, no second chance, no cat, no laugh, no hope, no TV.

@me me i'd say let him have is cat for 2 years and one day when he comes back from breakfast have the cat murdered and mutilated to they same degree his victims were, then that evening take him to get his lethal injection, but as he's lying down abort it and put him in solitary confinement for 4 weeks. When he gets back to a normal cell have a box with a cute new kitten waiting for him....

@me me there where you live must be such an elitist place better than my part of the world as you're implying. My honest opinion that trumps all is there shouldn't be a death penalty for the sake on the innocent members of the perpetrators family. Why does killing another mothers son make the world better? (for example) Also what if they get found innocent after a death sentence? Happened before many times. By the way thats not an exaggerated punishment its quite lenient compared to what i'd to if they done it to my family, just not fair on the cat who has more worth than most of those cretins.

@@skyeait5939 you say the cat has more value.. yet you want to murder and mutilate it to punish the guy just to use a new kitten afterwards? yeah, sure, you are such a decent guy.

So you imprison the cats too. They don't deserve to be locked in that prison! They didn't do anything ... How is it that a MURDERER gets better treatment than a Homeless person?!

I was in homeless temporary accommodation and hostel, I was forbidden to have my cat and grandson , f that, I hid them till I got a permanent home. Homeless in Scotland get no human rights. I was basically told to stay in the hotel room between 11pm and 7am, ie imprisoned, or get thrown out on the street !

The cats seem happy. There’s supervision of the cats. They definitely make sure these folks aren’t hurting them.

They need to be given things in order for them to have things taken away. If a person is in for life, they misbehave, what u gonna do? Give em more time? No, so give them stuff then you can punish them

Trevor... I agree after watching this I got a feeling of a turning point in my stance on the Death penalty. It seems to me that some of these people did experience a moment of impulse control . Thank you for this. My view has been expanded .

How does someone even consider, let alone going ahead with making a documentary like this? Easy.they employ the legend that is Trevor McDonald.
@ravenwoes3 жыл бұрын
Trevor McDonald really opens up my mind about prisoners. Some things are just unforgivable acts, but it’s interesting to see how these people live and their way of life behind bars. Like that one man with the cat Rascal and the picture of his mom by his bed. Damn. What an amazing journalist.

After working 20 years in a male Max Security prison, I change my mind about execution. I witnessed an execution of a man, after watching I changed my mind. 1. There are innocent ppl on death row who need legal assistance. 2. And the best PUNISHMENT is letting them live behind walls/bars for the rest of their life. Make them live every day without family and friends, never knowing what's going on in society, this is the best punishment. What he said about suicides is very true, many can't handle being locked down.

I am a retired prison guard. I've never known nor saw an execution, but I believe in the justice of the death penalty.
