I think kindness shouldn't be at the cost of your own/family's needs. Because the person who needs your kindness and help the most is you. Help yourself first then only you'll be able to help others. Yes kindness is good and all, but it is just impractical to be just sitting around indebted, giving your stuff and labour for free and just wait for some miracle to happen. Even if some miracle would happen, but still "You should always HOPE for good but READY for bad" And even if the miracle does not happen in this life you shouldn't be worried because god will reward you in afterlife.
