**Correction** - Kumi Mizuno and Maki Mizuno are *not* related. Apologies for this error, I was able to crudely edit this out of the video at 23:19 using KZbin's video editor, so that's why you see a random image of them together there lol. I will address the error further in my History of Godzilla (2014) video, sorry again.

I wondered about Kazuki and Ryuhei Kitamura. This woulda Ben cool too. Also agree with your rankings if GxM and G2K swapped. GxMG vs GMK is tough though. I’ll add these videos are very well done and detailed. It’s enjoyable to watch or listen to in the background for information (I am often multitasking and my Japanese is very rusty so I always have to pause if I’m on a ladder and a Japanese quote comes on). I wish Hedorah got more screen time in GFW. I got to meet Banno in 2004 at GFest where they premiered GxMxMG:Tokyo SOS in the US and he was great and I’m sure would’ve been happy if Hedorah got more than 10 seconds on screen again. Wasn’t a fan of GFW but as you said it’s better on rewatch. GxM also isn’t bad besides that leap scene but I prefer the Heisei atmosphere. Was good to see angilas again though. I’ve been a fan since the Showa era (as in pre-89..). I remember my surprise learning Godzilla didn’t end with 1985 when I first got the web in 93, then found I’d missed one with DAM. Such an enjoyable watch with the AIP bootleg, and those horrid Heisei dubs for GvKG and GvM92 (the bio dub wasn’t bad). Been sub ever since with GxvMG93 but can enjoy a good dub like G2K

Honestly, I really enjoy this movie just because of how balls to the wall, batshit insanely over the top it was & because of that it's actually one of my favorites of the entire franchise. @DonnaBrooks
@DonnaBrooks 2 жыл бұрын
"...I recommend for people who are just getting into the character?." Wouldn't that be more accurate to say, "...for video gamers, BOYS, & MEN in the 18-40 age group?" LOL That's the "people" you really mean. Or maybe, "...people who are WWE (WWF wresting) fans." For PEOPLE who are older or female, this would be a terrible movie to use to INTRODUCE the "character"! It's the stereotype of a Godzilla film. Non-stop fighting is fan service, not something that will engage most newbies. Godzilla 1985 is probably the best of the older Godzilla films to use to introduce the CHARACTER (not just show off special effects). For modern audiences, one of the new American Godzilla films (2014 or G v. Kong) would be better for special effects AND for character, b/c Big G actually HAS a character in those films. He even has a character in Shin Godzilla. I noticed that he takes a lot of abuse in his "second land form but doesn't fight back. It's only in his final form that he goes on a rampage. He had only been destructive b/c he was so big (& outright clumsy in his first form), not b/c he was malevolent. But WE made him malevolent by deliberately attacking him first instead of finding some other way of controlling him or deterring his coming on to land. Plus you have the whole, "The Japanese government is incompetent in a crisis," message that was the point of Shin Godzilla as political commentary after the triple disasters of the earthquake, tsunami, & Fukushima nuclear disaster.

All I wish is most of these recent G films had presented their storylines more engaging. Most of these characters have been just meh, Brian Cranston the only exception (I'm not just referring to the Monsterverse films, also the Reiwa films). I see potential for good movies in each of these, just a not as fulfilling execution compared to more previous G films (though not all). But that's just my opinion, not fact.

Final Wars is and always will be my favorite Godzilla film, barring Monsterverse KOTM. It has monster after monster, wicked fights both human and not, and a score that sticks with me even today. I bought the DVD for it from a BestBuy in '06 or '07 and it was an awesome time. Now that I'm older, can safely say this is the most extreme live-action movie and most high energy Godzilla movie ever. One of my favorite things about the movie is Godzilla's design. He is the perfect balance. He's powerful and heavy but he has a sense of agility and speed. His longer fangs and talons makes him look far more menacing, his longer arms gives him far more reach (he throws more hands then I've ever seen in any other movie). And his atomic breath...sweet Lord is his atomic breath amazing. And that Red-Spiral Final Shot when he launched Kaiser Ghidorah into the freaking stratosphere never fails to send a chill down my back and a stupid smile on my face.

15:10 Insane take from my point of view. This is one of the first tracks that comes to mind when I think of Godzilla every time. It sounds perfectly in line with the Army March theme from the original. Pacific Rim is a great movie, Final Wars is not but it's still great. Why? Because it's dumb, stupid and insane in a 2000's good way. It's bad, but the awesome bad

I absolutely love Final Wars. It's easily my favorite of the Millennium movies and it was the first Godzilla film I was hyped about when it was coming out, (I wasn't aware of the newest movies until after Tokyo S.O.S was out on DVD) and I remember hearing a rumor that the "American Godzilla" would be in it and I was so excited about that fact. Sure enough, I wore out the part on the DVD where he fights Zilla because of how many times I rewatched it. I also remember the day I found out that it was the last Godzilla movie (well, at the time of course) and I was strangely okay with that fact, I guess kid me really thought it was a decent send off. At the same time, I couldn't wait for him to be back. I'm really glad you covered this whole series, it's definitely been a lot of fun keeping up with. I can't wait to see you tackle the Reiwa and MonsterVerse films, if you do them I mean. 🙂

Hey, I really appreciate your review series. I've said it before, but this stuff is really the best. Nothing anyone has ever put on youtube has been as detailed and crafted as this series man. Even if the bulk of the info is regurgitated, its all for the sake of us G fans and the Big G, so who cares. Witht that said, as I'm sure you're painfully aware of right now, this is the end of the classic Godzilla series run for most fans (age 17-32 or so) after this break we never would get a Goji film or series like this again. This new generation if Godzilla has a different, highly varied, identity. Obviously due to the fact that the character has to reinvent himself so many times that people who take up the mantle are trying to nail what audiences enjoy most. As for what this means, it means that the body of work you're referencing and utilizing has seemingly run out, or atleast been cut drastically. Now your effort is likely going to quadruple. None of that is to dissuade you, actually its mostly to double down and say: Great job man. Youre the best in this niche, and I cant wait to see what you put out next, no matter how long the wait we'll be waiting with some snacks to sit back and watch you talk about the new Godzilla movies. And when the day comes where theres no more material for you to go over, you'll always have your dedicated fans here interested in just listening to you, even if its not Godzilla related. Take it easy man.

I do plan on re-doing a lot (if not all) of my showa era videos, so I won't be done with Godzilla for a while but I do plan on making videos about other things as well. Thank you for creating this video series. As a long time fan of Godzilla I am still learning new things from these videos about the background and plans for different movies. Godzilla Final Wars is best viewed by an audience that knows not to take it seriously. Its a guilty pleasure and mindless fun. I will say that Final Wars probably has one of the most entertaining human cast of the Godizilla films and Don Fry is a big part of that.

i just finished marathon watching all your videos and what a journey it has been. all your videos have been greatly informative telling the history of each movie and i can tell you put a lot of effort into making each one of them. i got bit teary eyed at the videos of the last movies of each godzilla era, including this one. it just proves that even though the days of practical effects are long since gone and times may have changed a lot for the godzilla franchise, godzilla can never stay gone forever and will always return. i really hope you get to monsterverse and reiwa godzilla movies eventually, i really like to see these videos continue.

I love this film! We got to see Godzilla fight in ways that were new, saw a host of monsters old and a few new, and it had Don Fry in it who, incredibly, gave a pretty fun 80s action hero style performance. Love this film and it's homage to the Showa era!

I love the serious Godzilla movies but I also love this movie. Yes, it is nothing but silly fan service and normally I would hate that but as a celebration of Godzilla's 50th birthday I really enjoy it. It let's just about everyone see their favorite monster for at least a few seconds and it feels like a celebration of the guys in suites era of Godzilla. It reminds me of those multi-Doctor anniversary celebrations of Doctor Who, like them it may not be the best the franchise has ever produced but it is great to see everyone back and it is a fun way to spend two hours. There there may be better Godzilla films out there but it is hard to think of one that is more fun or show more love for the monsters.
