If you have a similar short growing season as I do in my zone 3 garden, you're probably around 4-6 weeks before your last frost date. Now is the perfect time to wake up/pre-sprout your dahlias and glads. Here's how I do it! Plus, I'll give you a little update on some of the plants from my $100 Cut Flower garden project with ‪@westcoastseedstv‬ and what I got if you have $100 extra for your garden. I got some really beautiful dahlias, lilies, glads, and ranunculus. #creatornow

That’s really interesting about the gladiolus bulbs. I just started my dahlias (tubers and seeds) last week but I never thought about getting an early start on gladiolus! Thanks for sharing!

Omg I'm in Regina and I'm so far behind you. The second winter left me without a warm porch and the mice got to some. I'm still at it . It's my first year ! I have dahlias and glass to wake up so will do tomorrow. Btw. I am doing more zip lock bag germinating to not have to look at dirt and wonder if anything is going to happen ! Thank you

TFS your experiences with Dahlias and gladiolus! I just planted my haul from Brecks, Dahlias, Iris and gladiolus. I didn't get fancy ones but the main reason why is next year when selling it will be something new!! I planted all Iris, Dahlias and gladiolus but held some gladiolus for a later crop. zone 8b and I only lightly watered in my Dahlias and now mother nature takes care.

I leave my glads in the ground as they are planted about 6” from the foundation of my house and I have a very wide eave on my roof. The soil never gets saturated in winter so it doesn’t freeze right near the foundation. (Zone 6 New England.) I have trellises behind them to anchor the stems as they get 5’-7’ tall and they flop over if not secured. I discovered I could do this because I just didn’t get them dug up one year. Pleasant surprise when they started growing the following year. Did you see Nicole’s blue sweet pea in her most recent video? Beautiful! Happy Easter.

I never have any luck with over wintering dahlias. I might have one viable one. The ones I bought from west coast seeds were so so. The one Sakura looks mushy in the pkg. my glads are okay. For the most part I just plant the in the ground and they bloom. I’m in Mb. This year with the winter we had with record snow amounts and the blizzard we just had . Probably will have to use this method. My mom used to soak them but with a bit Lysol in the water. She had thrips one year and that took care of them.

I’m in Ontario zone 6b. I store my dahlia tubers during the winter in pots of soil in the garage (unheated) and they last. I too have started them early two weeks ago, in a North facing window, but not even directly near the window. They have already begun to sprout. I’ll be starting my glads today, thanks to this video

I currently have glads showing the sprouts ,growing roots and my question is , do you change out the water at anytime? My water started feeling a little slimy after the first day so I changed it. I’m currently using very filtered water. Also how big shout the sprout get before planting and do I cover up the tip if it’s still very small?

I have noticed in my area that a number of people are selling their extra dahlia tubers via facebook marketplace, also at this time of year they should also have them in your local garden centre - on sale even, although be aware that shoppers aren't careful when handling them and they can be quite broken.

@@katjo0812 Westcoast seeds waits until the time is appropriate as well but no one can predict unnaturally cold temps. For example on April 14th, Vancouver had a daytime record low - which was below zero. Westcoast shipped out my ranunculus and anemone in March and they were perfectly fine. Had they waited til May it would have been too late to plant.
