wow .. a tour de force. Without spoiling the end, the twists & turns (at once subtle, but with devastating impact to reveal what's being unsaid; what's being held secret) make me want me to watch the film over again ..to re-appreciate - the story being told & the story tellers performances. BRAVO! ❤🙏🏽🇨🇦

This films story doesn't move quickly, but well worth watching. it leads you through the why, what and how. And the personalities of all of the people involved. Each character is well devolped and portrayed extremely well by the actors. No wonder it was award winning.

Wow. To misquote one of the great J.C.s, '"I've seen better films, I just don't remember when." I'm glad the local cinemas like to show mostly action movies, especially movies featuring comic book heroes. If there were more films like this, I wouldn't see the sun so often. Superbe in every way. Great story, great directing, and incredibly convincing acting.

A very meaningful story about what lies can do to people to a family to everyone involved.As I found out about my own family secret after decades and YES it hurts it hurts a lot but when I faced it I could start over and to forgive and understand

absolutely excellent... the differences between a us and uk approach to things is stunningly sophisticated and accurate... makes you want to cringe, giggle and gasp with appreciation, and in the end the best of it is that each on its own is lacking but together there is the chance of something real and rich - what a novel approach. and this is aside from the freshness and cleverness of the script, direction and acting. what unfolds is both terrible, and beautiful in terms of how something unique and specific is drawn from the potentially mundane, theoretical and expected. Well done, all round! A gem of a film. Huge congratulations and what a relief to find something really good swimming around in the ocean of offerings. Best of luck for any future projects from any or all of this team!

Great to see a movie that brings to light the way our lives are affected by lies & omissions. The onset of depression, isolation, drug/alcohol use, etc. as played by the Amy character. Others present the illusion that all is fine, even though inside there is a knowing that something is very wrong and others who just don't want to know. If this movie is uncomfortable for you, maybe time for some honesty in one form or another.....

Great to see a movie that brings to light the way our lives are affected by lies & omissions. "Communication Is paramount to the success of any relationship". the inter-person relationships and how lies and omissions can wreck the very life out of ones lives. Others present the illusion that all is fine, even though inside there is a knowing that something is very wrong and others who just don't want to know. Reminds me of all the things in my family that were never discussed, aka, lies. Nice movie showing the harm lies and Denial of truth can do. Innocence Canada is a Canadian, non-profit organization dedicated to identifying, advocating for, and exonerating individuals convicted of a crime that they did not commit. In addition, prevent future injustices through legal education and reform. Yes cut & paste it works seeding love in the World

The mother received a great gift. 2 gifts in fact. The first being her husband and father of her child was indeed not the man his sister in-law made him out to be and there wasn't anything horrible, that had happened, except a one night fling. The second gift was she wasn't building a relationship and new marriage on two lies. The daughter could crawl out of her victim prison she had built and healing could take place. The man has to come to grips with who he is and what he did and the lies he was living or not; it is his choice. Scarlet was the best thing, that happened to mother and daughter, despite her husbands infidelity. The truth really does set all free and each can come to their own self awareness.
@SvetlanaRatkovic-v5l2 ай бұрын
I think that mother’s housband-to- be didn’t cheat on her, but he should have told her about the fling with her daughter, and not pretend nothing happened, and let it be believed David was an incestual abuser. When you love someone and want tot protect her, uou cannot be silent about important events.

Yes, absolutely, unless those who are to blame are personality disordered abusers. ;) They *always* punish to no end once called on their set-ups and corruption and abuses. Their behavioural patterns should be legally criminalised. They gleefully destroy health, relationships, opportunities, social lives, futures and much more. I do agree, @mama loves, but we need to get to know our abusers and self-protect before calling them out as well. :)

very well made, excellent script and acting - great London accents contrasting with the American. Just way too slow and dramatic (good for the stage), far too much tension and the mystery gets solved quite close to the end all in one shot. She was right in the first scene...…"Communication Is paramount to the success of any relationship". This movie is an agonizing (and quite slow) study of a family that should have used a lot more honesty and communication...….and they paid the price on many levels for not doing so expediently. The viewer will enjoy this movie best if they can observe small nuances and THINK. The movie is OK for "one watch".....But it does not make "the cut" for me to want to see it again.

Not sure if it is really all about the importance of honesty and clear communication: Timing is another factor. The last scene indicates the possible suicide by Simon this time sort of returning what David had undeservedly paid the cost instead of him. Scarlet is returning to Amy’s house again next morning : She must have sensed the menace she has wrecked on the multiple people’s lives in ignorance and in the name of a holy chalice of Truth and Honesty ( Standing for young American civilization’s optimism and naïveté at the same time. She is literally a propagandist of this as shown in the first scene that she - a young energetic American preaching about it in Europe: a metaphor for the entire plot to be unfolded. ) I liked the open end : Would retuned Scarlet maneuver the same tactic of a blunt and brutal straightforwardness or would she find more subtle way to address the issue? After all “Not everybody has a privilege [like you]” and “ she doesn’t know anything about lives here.”

What a frustrating film! Lies, misunderstandings, untruths, dishonesty and lack of communication about the truth. Who was to blame? The daughter, the boyfriend or the aunt?
