I agree !00%..Too bad the thise who conspired ( Prof. Ediriweera Sarathchandra, Lionel Edirisighe, MJ Perera and later on Sunil's student Amaradeva ) in 1952 and after to limit Sunil Santha music career to just 8 years by removing him from Radio Ceylon didn't see his value !!!
Not sure being Buddhist has anything to do with it though ? :) Sunil Santha was a Sinhala Catholic, but he did pioneeer the composition of first authentic Buddhist songs in Sinhala in 1940s ! :)
Whenever I hear this song I feel like there are two meanings ( since I studied about how certain people conspired and chased this maestro out of Radio Ceylon )...one meaning is about the river...second is the fact that this Sunil's lament that why Sri Lanka didn't make use of this golden voice and unparalleled music composing abilities ? Sri Lanka has never ever produced a musician/singer after Sunil who became batch top in singing and instruments both in Bhathkande university beating out all Indian musicians..and we never had a singer who had such perfect trained signing voice who sings songs without killing Sinhala language ! But in the end via Ratanjaker Test conspiracy he was sacked from Radio Ceylon and gave up music just after 6 years...his whole music career is just 9 years...Sunil's student ( not nearly as talented as Sunil ) Pandith Amardeva was active in music scene with unimpeeded access to Radio Ceylon/SLBC for 64 years.....what if Sunil Santha continued his music career for 35 years instead of just 9 years ? One would wonder !

I think the song is all about the rain water. It clearly says how the tanked were built and how the ancients saved the water. The song starts from the rain drops that falling down from the clunds and then to Sri Pada and until it flaw to the sea and vanished. I think Mr.Sunil Shantha is trying to imply the important of rain water to the prosperity of the country, prosperity of the community and a nation at large by these marvelous Word lines.

Because Ediriweera Sararthchandra, Lionel Edirisinghe and MJ Perera and later on Sunil Santh's student Amaradeva, got together and limited Sunil Santha's music career to be just 8 years.

For those who don't know, that's ivor dennis sir singing the chorus. He can sing very well in low pitch which is how i identify his voice. He has had a fall and currently hospitalized. අපි හැමෝම එතුමාට ඉක්මන් සුව ප්රාර්ථනා කරමු!

Sunil Shantha is one of the greatest Musicians we were so blessed to have.- Ivor Denis was one of his students gifted with amazingly similar voice. Sunil Shantha lived a very humble life and despite his unique contribution to Sri Lankan music at its very inception he was sidelined by some but he never bowed down to intimidations by anyone. Very little is known and spoken about Sunil Shantha even now, but we must remember him as one of the greatest pioneers of Sri Lankan music and arguably the one who broke off from the Hindustani tradition to develop a genre of our own. Thank you for the post Bandara. Blessings!

Not one, he is THE ONE who enabled Sinhala music to be unique by itself and avoided it becoming a "sinhalasthani" music ! Also, Sunil was the first ever music super star Sri Lanka produced and by far the most talented musician/singer ever in Sri Lanka...Too bad the people who conspired against him, limited Sunil's music career to just 9 years ..I just lament what if Sunil was not unjustly axed from Radio Ceylon in 1952 and was allowed to compose music until 1981 ???
