I used to have the Micro Q back 2001, when it first came out. Took me weeks of waiting for it to arrive on special order. Sold it a couple years later, when I fell on real dark and hard times. I tend to shy away from these types of synths now and prefer romplers from back in the day instead. Great demo though!

I’ve been fortunate to have owned many many synths, over the last 4 decades. I’ve created many new sounds and played a good few thousands more, using every known synthesis method we have. Believe me, the Q is the only synth that is truly exceptional!

Amazing synth. I had the micro Q about 15 years ago. But the Q sounds better for some reason.
@Riktenstein5 жыл бұрын
For me the Q is a keeper. It's has so much bottom end. I think the key is the analog filters. Even pigment and Arturias V collection fall short of this great synth.
@shawnsaul77595 жыл бұрын
Riktenstein does the W do Wavetable synthesis or VA? I have the same Orange Microwave XT rack and am wondering if the Q is different from the XT? Also, would you consider the Quantum over the Q if you didn’t own the Q but had the XT?
@aristotlekumpis70955 жыл бұрын
@@shawnsaul7759 The Q series is subtractive synthesis, not wavetable. It's virtual analog. The Q is totally different than the XT. The XT uses wavetables instead of your traditional saw, square, and triangle.

3:35 This is an epic sound! Unfortunately, it looks like this module is no longer made. Waldorf has some REALLY expensive keyboards. Not gonna buy one of those, but I see there are some modules in the $2,000 range. Are these comparable to the Q?
@Riktenstein Жыл бұрын
Not sure. This was a quirky one from the 90s. I have nothing else that sounds like it in my studio. Personally I buy the Q. Cheaper and hold their value.

Do you have these Patches in Sys-ex? I'd like to try them in a shoot out
@NeuroticNexus3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the surface goes off since they used a specific layer of color material which has issues. Also the rubber disintegrates and the nobs themself may not work correctly after a couple of years. Not the way I'd expect it to happen from German engineering. My Q Rack is under a cover on a shelf since I do not even dare to touch it (getting yellow finger tips). It is also rather difficult to remove the shell to get it fixed with a layer of fresh, transparent surface. Nobs are glued and may have to be destroyed to pull them off. I love(d) my Q but I am not optimistic to used it anymore. It may end one day in a musem maybe :()

I have both the Q Phoenix edition and a Micro Q. They sound different. I would not say the Micro Q sounds 'worse' than the big Q but (identical) patches on the big Q sound wider, deeper and more dynamical. Buy now as prices of both synths are rising !!

I don't say this often, but there is something special in every synthesizer ! My recent Argon 8 is a little black monster. My Novation Summit is a so dark sounding synth that it sometimes scares me. Not to mention my Iridium that probably wipes the floor with any previous Waldorf... EDIT 06/23 : I've sold the Iridium and bought a Waldorf XTK 30 voice. Perfect companion for my Q Phoenix! Imho, The Q and The XTK were about the last 'real' Waldorf Synths. The Iridium has plathora of possibilities, but sounds 'plastic' compared to Q or XTK!!
@Riktenstein4 жыл бұрын
The Iridium looks very good, but I've gone a bit software these days as I'm doing a lot more music and it's just so much easier.
@sK3LeTvM14 жыл бұрын
@@Riktenstein Well there has always been a discussion around about soft synths but I also use them. Some of VST's are incredibly good. I.e. Omnisphere, Tone 2 Electra X, and some freware that really sound punchy and rich. These days it's sometimes hard to hear the difference between analog and digital. But to me hardware still has advantages... Something like an Iridium would cost a lot of processing power when it would be software. Nice Q sounds BTW.. ;-)
