Okay so india is known for multiple languages which are distinctly different yet similar depending on the area. Most Indian musicians are trained in classical music which is prominent with a lot of runs and belting as well as very controlled breathing. In the olden days songs were sung sitting down on the ground. Bollywood is the mainstream music and each state of India has its own authentic music that varies region to region as the language does. Music is such a huge part of our culture that almost everyone knows some basics of it. And yes shreya and Arjit was singing a medley

"How did he start?" In India music training usually starts with classical music. The singer may play a harmonium or a tanpura which is accompanied by tabla for the beat. Indian classical music consists of Ragas which are time specific and has specific notes (swara). It is almost a ritual to start the practice early morning which is called Riyaz. So every single day since our childhood we do our Riyaz whether it is an amateur or an experienced singer. Basically it is a life long devotion and commitment to music .

@madhugreenleaf3 жыл бұрын

@saorihirai44922 жыл бұрын
@@madhugreenleaf no. Memorizing the Quran is a testament of your faith and love towards God. You grace yourself with God's own words, spend countless nights reciting, and engrave those words in your heart. While an understanding may bring wisdom and connect your mind with the faith of your heart, it's still a beautiful thing. To compare a human being to the act of memorizing the Quran shows your dedication, your faith, honor, and love towards that person. It reminds you of a man spending sleepless nights revering his lover, mind and heart both drenched in faith. It's a beautiful metaphor. It reminds me of a dark sky, a glowing moon, and a young man alone in his room at night, thinking of his lover.

This is what Guiness Book of Records says about Lata: Lata Mangeshkar has won several awards and honours, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievements (1999),] Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989), Maharashtra Bhushan Award (1997),[79] NTR National Award (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001), Legion of Honour (2007), ANR National Award (2009), three National Film Awards and 15 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards. She has also won four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards. In 1969, she made the unusual gesture of giving up the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award in order to promote fresh talent. She was later awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 and Filmfare Special Awards in 1994 and 2004. In 1984, the State Government of Madhya Pradesh instituted the Lata Mangeshkar Award in honour of Lata Mangeshkar. The State Government of Maharashtra also instituted a Lata Mangeshkar Award in 1992. In 2009, Mangeshkar was awarded the title of Officer of the French Legion of Honour, France's highest order. In 2012, Mangeshkar was ranked number 10 in Outlook India's poll of the Greatest Indian. Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan said kambakht, kabhi besuri na hoti ("[she] is never off-key"). Dilip Kumar once commented, Lata Mangeshkar ki awaaz kudrat ki takhleek ka ek karishma hain, meaning "Lata Mangeshkar's voice is a miracle from God". Mangeshkar is also a recipient of honorary doctorates from the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1989, Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, and Shivaji University in Kolhapur. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed on her in 1989 by the Government of India. In 2001, in recognition of her contributions to the nation, she was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour and is only the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to receive this honour. France conferred on her its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007. She is the recipient of three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and many more. In 1974, she became the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London. From the 1940s to the 1970s, Mangeshkar sang duets with Asha Bhosle, Suraiya, Shamshad Begum, Usha Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Talat Mahmood, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, G.M.Durrani, and Mahendra Kapoor. In 1964, she sang "Chanda Se Hoga" with P. B. Sreenivas from Main Bhi Ladki Hoon. Mukesh died in 1976. The 1980s saw the deaths of Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar. Mangeshkar's last duets with Mohammed Rafi were during the 1980s; she continued to sing with Shabbir Kumar, Shailendra Singh, Nitin Mukesh (Mukesh's son), Manhar Udhas, Amit Kumar (Kishore Kumar's son), Mohammed Aziz, Vinod Rathod, and S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. In the 1990s, Mangeshkar began singing duets with Pankaj Udhas, Mohammed Aziz, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, and Suresh Wadkar. The performance by Arijit Singh is a medley of the following songs in the order : 1. Janam Janam 2. Bolna 3. Parwardigara/ Ye fitoor mera 4. Agar tum saath ho 5. Judayi/Jeeni re Jeeni 6. Soch na sake 7. Ayaat I wrote a looong comment, but I lost it in the process of writing it because I got busy making the playlist (check below) of these songs. They are all from different movies. They sound so cohesive because they were arranged to seem so in the perspective in which they are being projected in this arrangement. All of these songs seem to have roots in Hindustani Classical music (which interprets music very differently from different genres and as Efra is curious, could be the reason why they could be arranged so smoothly) , although this performance (and to an extent these songs individually)incorporates western influences. Therefore it is advisable that you listen to the original individual tracks to be able to feel the difference in these songs better (which has been deliberately diminished here) and to get a better feel and sense of music these songs represent (especially instrumentally). All lot of artists are involved in making these songs, infact the original tracks of these songs have been sung by Arijit Singh along with other singer (pls listen to the songs individually - for ease, I made the following playlist) open.spotify.com/playlist/5WJ85ODu6AMApYbkCnxrQz?si=8uueQeB9TJSrUd62jIWeSQ&dl_branch=1 I tend to visit this channel for the kpop content quite often, thank you for doing a podcast for my country's music!! 💕

I m very happy that the review comes from people who actually understand musical technicalities. Indian music is based around ragas(scales). Just like the 7th,9th 13th notes within the chord, Indian music also has many more microtones. Students may practice the same scale for over 5 years under a Guru focusing on breathing and repetition. Most of these singers are most probably still learning under a Guru. The run that you will hear Indian singers do can be compared to a lead guitarist, sliding between notes, showing various notes within the scale, often improvised Both Indian music and jazz are heavily improvised, you'll see these being fused a lot. Arijit is singing a Medley of songs. Influences from all over the world are absorbed. This is a music award ceremony, most audience members are musicians themselves. The instrument used in Amit Trivedi's song Chaudhary is 'Sarangi'. The second one is Kartaal, very similar to castanets. It is said that gypsies migrated from Rajasthan(where this song is from in India) to Europe between the 8th-10th centuries. Maybe the castanets evolved from the 'Kartaal'.

Well being an indian, I can confirm that if you listen to a classically trained singer, and I'm talking as in right in front you, you'll find absolutely no difference between that and the studio version. That's just the way singers are trained here. Even though classical is not my cup of tea, I have immense respect for all sorts of classical music. I have some elementary classical training, and god oh god....that is one hell of a tough and treacherous road to cross. And honestly, even the biggest singers in the west can't compare (vocally) to an average indian classical singer or pakistani or arabic classical singer with around five years of training.. As unbelievable as that might be, if we put our egos behind for a moment and try to see what's true, we'll realise it. Not trying to be negative at all.

The music is just the version of folk music from Rajasthan, the instrument he's playing in intro is I think called Sindhi Sarangi. It looks that he's singing effortlessly, because he might have been singing since his childhood, as it's an art which is passed down in families and communities. The song he's singing is not him singing it for someone, he's singing it on a behalf of a women to her lover, the folk is like a storytelling in music form. And sitting down with crossed legs is I think a very common Indian thing, that's why he's comfortable in that position. In many asian countries people have culture of sitting down on floor while having their meals or even in general.

So I’m going to try and explain this in a very short paragraph. Singing has been a part of the south Asian/Indian culture for thousands of years and it’s always held a lot of cultural importance. This is why most Indians are very musically literate. The first 3 performances were more modern Indian music which takes influence from other cultures but the style of singing has a lot of classical techniques integrated into it. That being said, classical singing is still very popular in india and most of the top singers are also classically trained. The last video was a specific folk style with a modern twist. It would be interesting to hear you watch a much more classical singing performance and compare it to this! Ps this performance was a medley of Arijit’s songs which have been altered a little to fit more seamlessly together.
