2NE1 was the monster rookie in 2009. Debuted with Fire followed by I don't care. Introduced the girl crush concept. They were not doing the cute and sexy concepts which was the trend. That's why many people loved 2NE1 then because they were unique.

Wonder Girls concept has always been retro so that’s why their song and MV looked/sounded the way they did. I would’ve checked out “Why So Lonely” as an introduction but I absolutely love “Be My Baby” too That was probably their most viewed MV bc it was their last time together as the (mostly) original lineup

Sunmi was also in Wonder Girls! She was one of the first members but left and then came back, that's why she wasn't in this mv. Hyuna was also one of the first members but left due to health reasons I believe.

F(X) was so underrated despite the fact that their music always slaps. Their sound is very experimental so I get it but they deserved so much more than SM locking them in the dungeon. I usually don’t bother listening to Kpop groups albums except for groups that I actually really like. I never stanned F(X) as group but in my opinion, they had one of the best discography in Kpop of all time.

the way sm treated f(x) was ridiculous! we got our official fandom name and lightstick only in 2016, after a long 7 years. when it cames to sm girl groups f(x) always being "outsiders". they deserve way more attention. their whole discography is a pure gem, one of the best discography in entire kpop industry. their 2nd studio album "Pink Tape" was named "the best kpop album of decade" by Billboard. you definitely need to check out their discography.)

Please do an IU special! she has such long discography. Debuted at 15, Became a top singer and nation’s little at 18, the fact that she can maintain her top position for the past 14 years only shows how amazing she is. She is the producer of her own album write and compose all of her stuff which really shows her unique color, i think that’s why we say IU is the genre of music itself. Would love to see you sit down and talk with her one day. I’ve watch many of her interviews where she shared her thoughts about life/career/struggles etc. not only she’s a music genius but a very inspiring human being as well.

I highly suggest checking out F(x)'s discography especially the album "Pink Tape". You guys will see how versatile the girls are and their music. They truly were the experimental group and the sister group of SHINee. Definitely ahead of their time. 2nd GEN was called the Golden Age of KPOP for a reason!!! The groups will forever be ICONIC. Love all the groups that are in this podcast

Till this day I listen to 2nd gen the most, I was crazy about GGs, I would listen to anything lol so many amazing GGs: KARA, SNSD, T-Ara, BEG, 2NE1, SISTAR, f(x), Secret, 9Muses, After School, 4minute, Girls Day, Brave Girls, Apink, Dal Shabet, Rania, Rainbow, etc. 10 hours video when? 😂

Red Light is probably f(x)'s most divisive track. I understand why some people don't like it, but I absolutely adore it. For all the other girl groups nowadays that people love to tout as being experimental, none have ever released a TITLE TRACK like Red Light. I am so lucky to have seen it performed live. More than title tracks though, just like with my other ult group (EXO), the place where f(x) truly shines are in their albums. Their b-sides are diverse and yet still cohesive. The 3 albums they released each year one after another - Pink Tape, Red Light, and 4 Walls - are 3 pinnacle girl group albums for me, albums I genuinely couldn't live without. Pink Tape is widely critically acclaimed, being the highest rated kpop album on Pitchfork and contains songs with elements of rock, doo-wop, disco and jazz. Red Light is its darker sister, where everything has a little more edge and grit to it, and a little more mystique. And finally 4 Walls is probably their most cohesive project, being an EDM-centric album for the most part, but exploring different facets of the genre and making for a very sophisticated album that I think would be approachable even to people completely unfamiliar with kpop. f(x) are and always will be my favourite girl group. There is simply no one else like them and I doubt there ever will be.

Second gen was my childhood lol. You should check out Ailee and Lee Mujin's duet version of Heaven! I think you'll really enjoy it. Also Lee Mujin and Seori's duet on 'Lee Mujin Service', the whole episode is of them singing together and separately.

F(x) was the OG experimental group but the majority of their songs were actually VERY well received and loved. Red Light was actually the first time people were polarized on their comeback. Their albums (this one included) were always amazing but this song had the community divided. This was prominently one of the songs that started kpops trend of seemingly disjointed songs. Idk how to explain it but I loved f(x)‘s sound but I’m very much not a fan of SM’s 4th Gen experimental music. I wonder why.

Anyway For Miss A : their songs were very loved and covered alot in korea and outside korea, suzy was loved alot which my have been the reason to the groups disbandment. U guys need to watch the cover of bambam and jokwon 😂. Sistar : they are the queen's of summer in korea, thanks to them people start to see the healthy bodies as attractive and not juat the very thin bodies, they were the example of sexy, healthy and summery. Wonder girls : their old songs were loved alot especially tell me and soo hot, Nobody is what made them big ( "Nobody" was a top search term in South Korea upon its release and ranked number one on various digital music sites. In the United States, the English version of the track set a milestone in K-pop-it was the first song by a Korean artist to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, entering at number 76 on the chart issue dated October 31, 2009), in the one u guys react to is when sunmi wasn't in the group its when she left to continue her studies, their music was a retro sound. Kara : my sweet poor girls, they were Very loved in korea and Japan with mister, they have a member who they lost the Same way sulli left us. Girls generation : were very loved too in korea especially their older songs, i used to have catch me with Jessica 😂. 2ne1 : their fashion and songs were very love that u may see an old woman doing daras hair 😂. IU : was the nations daughter, i still dance to marshmallow 😌. In the end of 2009 till 2011 the (sexy) them become very big with girl groups. I remember it was a battle between girl groups in changing to sexy kara, t-ara, 4minute, snsd, secret,brown eyed girls, nine muses, sistar, omg and there was lee hyori and ivy, hyuna and son dambi it was fun time 😭💛 Now i need to listen to my old kpop playlist 😢👂👂

Fei is 87 liner, Jia is 90, min is 91 and Suzy is 94 liner ....& during the 2nd gen era the 94 liners were kinda a thing coz they are normally the youngest one in each of their group and their visual is popularly regarded fantastic & even though the older idols have frienship with their same age group friends....the 94 liners are the one who popularise the trend, they even got to perform together is music festivals,which i think is a first ..... truly the legendary 94 liners ❤❤❤❤

KARA was so popular in Japan, they were the first kpop girl group to have a dome concert there. DSP was a pretty trash company but you should do a special of their songs because there are some incredible tracks. Also I have to warn you because unfortunately KARA went through a tragedy, Hara (the girl you said was super attractive in the video) is no longer with us but she was the sweetest girl ever and deserved a lot better. 2nd gen kpop was really something else especially girl groups we had a variety of concepts it was so good !!!! I would recommend listening to Stellar because their songs were incredible (Vibrato especially) and groups like 9 muses who were kinda popular and had amazing tracks.

the 2nd gen is best in live perf and music show perf because you can nearly hear most of their raw vocals whether good or bad, maybe some heavy back track here and there ..but post production editing or filtering werent used much like today , which could also be due to the non availability of better technology like today..... but i noticed that the later 2nd gen perf were also starting to lose that

Red Light was indeed unsettling and for a very good reason. It was actually a call-out to the current government at the time as confirmed by the producer because of the Sewol Ferry incident. From what I remember, the catterpillar thing was what the public called the president back then and in the lyrics, you have seen a lot of references to crashing and emergency stuff. Even in the video, the ringing of the phone and burning the book have something to do with it. It’s literally “made for the arts, not for the charts” type of thing. It’s meant to be haunting and uncomfortable.

Second generation girl groups have so many diversity when it come to their concept. I really enjoy from mature to girl next door to girl crush concept. They experiment with a lot. Nowadays, idol are debuting too young so by the time they are in their second or third year, if they wanted to do mature concepts, they couldn’t because they still have at least one or two minor still.

Fun fact...Catch Me If You Can by snsd is a song that has one of the most intense choreos ever and well...the girls don't really like to perform it on stage lol...but at the same time the challenging choreo proves how awesome they are🔥

This is what i found Hush is produced mainly by E-Tribe who are Korean music producers and there are no western producers credited as they usually are when a song is sampled/remake, so yes, if you think you heard it elsewhere you probably heard Hush itself as it was huge when it was released. Usually western producers being credited is a giveaway. Also in physical albums there’s sometimes a note mentioning the title of the original song the K-Pop song is based on

I'm sure you are familiar with F(X)'s members: Amber ,Krystal, Luna.... (suly was a member but she left but still was good good friend with a the members who are very close to each other and she now gone..r.i.p. ... it was so so so sad to lose her... she was always 2 - 4 steps ahead of her time and that's why she suffered so much from the public)
