Thank You so much for all of your videos. I chose to walk to my accommodations in the Colosseum area. After a long flight I was energized to find the spots you highlighted. I only had about 30 hrs in Rome; considering the crowds at the Colosseum and the Forum, I took some great photos and headed to another part of the city that you described in a video, Largo do Torre Argentina. They didn’t build Rome in a day so you can’t see it in a day. I’m looking forward to coming back and using your video guides.

Just loving the sight of bits that I remember from my too-brief visits! Trivia: The senior Roman politicians were assigned a set number of 'lictors' depending on their rank; for instance, the legates were assigned five. These were both indicators of the rank *and* bodyguards. It was the lictors that carried the fasces - an axe bound with wooden rods by a rope. These were both badges *and* weapons as, in extreme emergency, the rope could be pulled off and the bodyguard was armed with a very sharp axe!

@@Romewise Elyssa! Do you think traveling to Rome during Jubilee 2025 would be a good idea for tourists? I’m a little hesitant with the large crowds.
@Romewise
@Romewise 3 сағат бұрын
@@smon7224 I'm getting a lot of questions about this and will probably make a video about this topic. Please remember that the Jubilee lasts the entire year. There is not one specific date or even date range during the Jubilee that is more important than others, with the possible exception of the opening (December 24) and closing of the Jubilee (December.) They expect about 5 million pilgrims to attend but again, over the course of the whole year. Also, many pilgrims coming for the Jubilee will stay in religious housing, and/or at hotels that can accommodate large groups which are often outside the city center. So while nobody can predict the future, my feeling is that the Jubilee will not impact regular tourism all that much. Rome has been super crowded since mid-2022, and I expect it to stay this way into the near future, Jubilee or no Jubilee. Personally, I would not put off coming to Rome for this reason - Carpe Diem!

@@Romewise my wife does an ESL Bible Study at our church. One of the women grew up in China. She has a daughter in college. Leading up to spring break, the daughter asked if she and her mom could go to Rome together. In China, they don't learn history. So she knew NOTHING about Rome. She asked me to line up housing ... Instead, my wife and I met for lunch and I brought my maps and computer. Explained the regions as best as I could. Discussed tradeoffs. Gave her some housing options. They went there about two months ago but have been too busy to meet for a debriefing.
