I was in this movie. I was in the high school talent show scene. I had a conversation with Dewey's mom (Margo Martindale) about her vertigo, which is supposed to lead to her death later on. They changed that part a bit so the conversation got cut. Fortunately Jake Kasdan asked me if I wanted to do a vomit take, and I said sure. It's the only thing of me that stayed in the film. It even made it into the tv ads for the movie. You even kept a shot of my shot in your reaction (7:51 ish). Thanks. I just got a residual check for it today.

My favorite Jake Kasdan film is his first Zero Effect. A fun mystery about a reclusive private detective figuring out a blackmail scandal. It was filmed on location in my hometown Portland, OR it's a nice little snapshot of the city in 1998. Good cast, Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller, Ryan O'Neil, and Kim Dickens.

@granadosvm24 күн бұрын
Whoever sent you to this movie, should have told you, you needed to watch first Walk the Line and Ray. This movie is 70% spoof of Walk the Line, 20& spoof of Ray, and the rest is between other references and some original ideas. What I love about this movie is, even though it is spoof of two actual musicians movies, it has great original music. And John C. Reilly sings beautifully. I've heard him singing a small part in Chicago, but I never imagined he is such a great singer.

Satire depends on subtext, and taking everything at face value circumvents the subversion of the norm. Cutting a kid in half is a tragedy; to make it funny the audience must get the irony that it mocks reality - notice the kid was not screaming in agony after the bisection. That wouldn't happen in real life. These two seem so grounded in their assumptions they rarely notice that it is, indeed, funny haha humorous not to be taken seriously. They take it SO SERIOUSLY

Thank you! I don't know why it's so hard to get reactors to react to this, I don't understand how this movie flies under the radar the way it does. I thought everybody knew about and loved this movie; it's a top-10 all-time movie, a top-3 or -4 comedy of all-time, it's THE definitive music biopic... and it's a fucking disgrace that John C Reilly didn't win the Oscar for carrying this movie on his back. (Which seems an odd way to characterize a movie with such a deep cast, but if JCR doesn't nail everything he's asked to do, this movie doesn't work. It's an all-time great performance... but it's in a comedy, so it doesn't matter to Oscar voters. Boo.) Also: another under-the-radar great movie is "7 Days in Hell", a fantastic sports biopic about probably the most grueling tennis match of all-time. I recommend it, although I don't hold out much hope anybody will ever watch it. Oh well.

"Are there really people like that?" I mean absolutely no offense, but it's almost mathematically guaranteed that both of you are at least sometimes like that, but you don't realize it at all, because you don't see it from the outside, you only see your reasons (that you believe are totally valid) for doing it. And if you take birth control (I'm not condemning birth control, just stating a fact about the side effects of creating a hormonal imbalance), then you DEFINITELY have acted like that and not realized it at all, because while a person is imbalanced and acting irrationally, they don't know that they're imbalanced and acting irrationally. It's absolutely fascinating to be around a woman who has been on BC since puberty and then decides to quit it: they are a completely different person when they revert to their natural hormonal balance and suddenly become logical and rational on every day of the year instead of only some days, and they even have completely different tastes and cravings in every category of thing from food to men. The medical industry does women a great disservice by telling them that BC is harmless and without major side effects, tricking them into a bad trade for the sake of perceived convenience for women and lots of profits for the industry.

@jawbone7825 күн бұрын
Yeah, it hits the biopic genre in general and parodies lots of different musicians besides Johnny Cash and Ray Charles, but it came out in the wake of those two and very specifically parodies them throughout. It did such a good job that subsequent biopics look ridiculous in comparison - that fucking garbage Freddie Mercury and Queen movie made me laugh my ass off because it literally did all the things this movie did, only seriously. It was hilarious.

I've shown it to older folk my age, 53, also in & around the "music biz" in Nashville, assuming they did their homework, thinking theyd think the same, only to laugh & enjoy, but just another Apatow/Reilly comedy to them. As with most.😔 I've watched it prob 50 times & try annually to watch every Christmas, & STILL discover hidden gems!
