Great info as always, a few questions - in D1-D3, when you talk about guaranteed spot, how long is the guarantee - what of the boy doesn't perform? Also, it would be great to hear more about how JUCO and NAIA schools recruit-scholarships, walk on, where they recruit, etc-with the new Covid rules, it seems like these options become more important
@RecruitingWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
That guarantee is usually on a year to year bases for mid-majors. That said, it’s very very rare to be let go at a mid-major for performance reasons. Now for power five schools that is a different discussion.

Great video, thank you! Quick question, my son is a 2023 and is a multi-sport athlete (basketball and baseball). He started the recruiting process this past spring (contacting coaches/sending video, attending showcases, going to school-specific camps). Now that basketball is starting, what should he be doing to stay on the recruiting/coaches radar while playing basketball? Wondering if this might be a good topic for a video? Just a thought! Thanks again and really enjoy the videos!!

Thanks for the recommendation, Chris. As far as what he can be doing is staying in touch with the schools that are recruiting his position, having his recruiting all in one, hitting when he can. Reaching out to the schools once a month or so is a good idea to say engaged.

This is a great clarification. Please define what a "guaranteed spot" on the Baseball team means? I assume they will be on some form of a roster, but not on the defined Max # "Active Roster." How, in the course of Freshman and later years do players fall off or are added onto the Active roster eligible for actual playing time? Obviously "the team" has more players than those on the Active Roster. How are the hurdles cleared from no spot, guaranteed spot etc.? At what point is a player realistically competing for an actual role and becomes eligible to get playing time at his first, second or if he's really versatile third position? I'm not asking about how to show skills or make it the team how to. I'm trying to further decode the process and ground rules.

Do preferred walk-on players have to get into the transfer portal if they want to transfer schools?

Yes, they do.

What if you have a 2.7gpa as a junior but would u get a preferred walk on spot but your good at your sport tho?
@RecruitingWithAlex2 жыл бұрын
It can happen but you want to get as close to a 3.0 as you can which is doable.

What PWO still receive a stipend like a scholarship athlete at the D1 level?
@RecruitingWithAlex2 жыл бұрын
Possibly if they have NIL and academic money if they qualify for that particular school.

What if you are offered a preferred walk on and you have other coaches who want to see you what should you do?

Depends on the school and if it’s a good fit plus my interest in the other schools.

How do pwo pay for school if they are offered pwo but their family isn't rich or well off?
@RecruitingWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
Great question…college is expensive. They can possibly get academic scholarship money, other merit scholarships, or take out a loan.
@RecruitingWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
There is also financial aid if you qualify.

Hello, do you know if a scholarship athlete can leave a school and be able to walk-on at a different school?
@RecruitingWithAlex2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a player can transfer.

For D1, do the scholarship recruits and preferred walk-ons get the same support /preference through admissions? Also, it seems like all recruits to the Ivy League are preferred walk-ons since they don't offer athletic scholarships.
@RecruitingWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
Yes, scholarship athletes and preferred walk-ons typically get the same support through admissions. You could look at Ivy League recruits as preferred walk-ons but they don't usually use that terminology. In my opinion they should be labeled as recruits.
@mitchellchang43073 жыл бұрын
@@RecruitingWithAlex Thanks Alex! Seems like it would also make sense to label all D1 preferred walk-ons as regular recruits and those receiving athletic scholarships as scholarship recruits. It would be less confusing and might even help to address some of the high school ego so that the $ can go to those recruits who really need it and can't go to college otherwise.

Do scouts evaluate kids based on age and grad year? Is age part of the “projectability” formula?
@RecruitingWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
First by year then by age. If you are young in your class and projectable that is attractive to a coach.

Hey coach thank you very much for your time, question what are ways you can lose your scholarship or preferred walk-on spot on the team? I mean you ever actually fully guaranteed for years through a scholarship?
@RecruitingWithAlex Жыл бұрын
It’s typically lost if you break a team rule.

@@RecruitingWithAlex you often say that when you come on campus everyone's on a level playing Field but there's got to be a fine print that says certain guys are untouchable. If we know a walk-on can take anybody's starting spot theoretically,,, my question is can he overplayed you so well that they feel they're wasting a scholarship spot on you... If that makes any sense thank you
