In today's video we were invited out to St. Augustine Florida to visit the Colonial Quarter and see Captain Mayhem's all new Pirate Magic Dinner Show. We started off in the Colonial Quarter learning all about the history of St. Augustine and how the fort was used to defend the land from invasion. We got to see a cannon being fired as well as a black powder musket! It was really neat to see how much history is in this area of Florida. After the Colonial Quarter we did a little exploring around the touristy section of the city before making our way to Captain Mayhem's dinner show! We found out that this is the only dinner show in St Augustine and the only form of family entertainment available after the sun goes down, aside from ghost tours that might not be for everyone in the family. All in all it was a very interesting and exciting experience. If you would like more information about Captain Mayhem's show visit his website at: thepiratemagicshow.com/

Very happy to see you on the First Coast! While it is true that SA is the oldest continually occupied city in Florida, its also true its the oldest city in the US. Founded 1565 (going strong for 454 years). Another fun fact? The first Thanksgiving celebration was held in SA when Pedro Menendez landed safely with his colonists to found the city. That was 56 years before that celebration we are taught (wrongly) was the first one celebrated by the Pilgrims.

St. Augustine! My favorite city of all. (well, Rome may be close but...) I used to volunteer in the Colonial Quarter back in the early 1990's. That was great fun. The Panama Hat shop is where I bought my Montecristi from. It was a delight to see you tour one of my old haunts!

As far as the historic buildings on St. George Street, many of them are original in some way. A huge restoration project took place in the 1960’s with the 400th anniversary of the town. The Lightner Museum was actually one of three hotels that Henry Flagler owned as a winter resort during the late 19th and early 20th century. And yes, usually you can see dolphins in the marina. I’m sorry you couldn’t see them this time!

The Torture Museum. Oh. My. God. Go! My hub and I live in Jax nearby and we went in for the heck of it before we ate lunch. Figured it'd be quick. Wrong. It was sooooo professionally done and really gruesome. Not exactly for the kids. Wow. Definitely get the audio tour. It's crazy and long, but worth it. Eat first or your stomach will turn. I was so grossed out haha. // Also go into the cathedral!! It is beautiful. Really nice. // Too bad the Santa Maria restaurant on the water is destroyed. Used to be a neat place to go feed the birds and fish through little doors while you are eating inside. You and Jenn should come back and we'll hang. I think we'd all get along well 👍👍

Hey, you’re in my town. The Huganot cemetery has only victims of the yellow fever epidemic that weren’t Catholic. That’s why they were buried outside the City Gates. The Lightner Museum used to be the Alkazar Hotel and was attached to what’s now the Casa Monika Hotel, the Government House and Flagler College, which was The Ponce Hotel. This used to be where all the super wealthy came for the winter.
