Loved the way the story teller put his view across without necessarily totally agreeing with it. Three minutes of footage shown several times does Nuneaton no justice whatsoever. Agreed that like so much of the UK now that it is a shadow of it's former self but Nuneaton has far more to offer than this "Sunday??" footage of the town centre. Would have looked totally different during the week and especially on a Wednesday or a Saturday which are market days.

My hometown, George Eliot figures somewhere in our family tree. Though I no longer live there, and it's changed beyond all recognition in the twenty-one years since I left, I don't have as much of a downer on the town as this guy has when I visit! And, where was the footage of Riversley Park?

That is really touching :( Sorry for the lack of the footage.

It;s not changed beyond recognition. The fountain in the Market Square's been removed, Wilkos on Church Street closed down, the Queens Arcade was demolished and the Rope Walk put up, the Co-op's been demolished but the frontage on Queens Road and Abbey Street are still there - what's so much changed beyond recognition? You can stand in the Market Place and still realise this is Nuneaton, including that cheap H Samuels on the corner.

The whole place is now a mess but OK for charity shops and Turkish barbers

What do you think happened to the town?

@@WalkInBritain corruption from the council, they spent a million on a multicoloured piece of metal ("bench") and wasted more money on contracting everything out to companies. There's a lot that I assume is also happening in a lot of places in the uk but rampant corruption is definitely a cause for the decline. No one can be this incompetent and still reap benefits.

Cobblers. Like most British towns it developed organically. As late as WW2, the main street of Nuneaton was Abbey Street, from where it meets Newdigate Street up to Abbey Green.
