I was born in Jersey City and we moved to Bergen County when I was a boy. I know t his area well. When I was a kid...1970s...this area was mostly industrial ruins. Abandoned train tracks, rotting piers, abandoned factories/warehouses, and a few sketchy businesses. A lot of the land was contaminated from the industries that that use to operate in the area...Ford Motor Company had an auto assembly plant in Edgewater for example, Alcoa Aluminum had a huge factory in Edgewater as well. Ferry service on the Hudson between NJ and NYC began a rapid decline after the bridge and tunnels were constructed. The last regular ferry service ended in 1966. In the early 80s the late Arthur Imperatore purchased a lot of the the land you see in this video for next to nothing. Imperatore, who lived in a house in Fort Lee that had been built for gangster Albert Anastasia, made his fortune in the trucking business. Imperatore planned to build high-end housing on the land and he started New York Waterway Ferry in 1986 to support his real estate development plans. I rode one of the first ferries to NYC back in 1986, Imperatore was shaking hands with people dockside the first week service began. BTW, the current site of Weekhawken Ferry terminal used to be the United Fruit Terminal. My uncles worked there as longshoremen. At the time United Fruit owned national brands like Chiquita Banana. When containerization took place in the shipping biz back in the 60s, almost all the docks on the Hudson and East River were closed and the entire shipping operation was transferred to Port Newark.

if you travel back towards Edgewater along that River road youre at, theres a PF Changs, and then a couple or maybe just one housing complex thing with a grocery store within the grounds of the apartments/condos and a dunkin Donuts i think. Many of the shopping stuff is closer towards Edgewater along River road but i guess thats the alternative

Love this as usual!!💖👍 Exactly the Indians traded their land for modern items like guns etc. Then realized they had no land left for them...being chased out by the settlers. Then of course ...fought with each other. History.

Great video. I stayed near Weehawken in 2019 and took the ferry a few times. When you were looking for the prices, I said to my screen, it’s $9. Lol. Definitely pricey if you’re using it multiple times during a trip, which I did. But it’s quick and I prefer ferries over rail or bus.

The duel location is a bit south (to the left as you look at the cliff) directly above the toll plaza for the Lincoln Tunnel. Also, there was a trolley that ran up that cliff many years ago. One correction, that is not JFK Boulevard, it is JFK Boulevard East. JFK Boulevard runs parallel to it to the west.
@ActionKid2 жыл бұрын
I've been to the duel location before, it's pretty crazy how they did it right above a cliff back then. Thanks for the distinction between JFK Boulevard and JFK Boulevard East, it's very confusing if you don't know the area.
