Google Maps Route: goo.gl/maps/Td...
Non-Narrated Version: • ⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC : Bro...
I exit a (3) Subway Train at the Rockaway Avenue Station and venture into Brownsville: historically one of Brooklyn's most dangerous neighborhoods. I walk through Tilden Houses, Brownsville Houses, Sutter Avenue, Mother Gaston Boulevard, and Van Dyke Houses. Traditionally a Jewish neighborhood, Brownsville is also home to former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson.
From Wikipedia:
"Brownsville is a residential neighborhood located in eastern Brooklyn in New York City. The 1.163-square-mile (3.01 km2) area that comprises Brownsville has 58,300 residents as of the 2010 United States Census. The neighborhood's boundaries are unclear, but it is generally bordered by Crown Heights to the northwest; Bushwick and Cypress Hills to the north; New Lots to the east; Canarsie to the south; and East Flatbush to the west.
Founded in its current incarnation in 1858, initially a settlement composed of Jewish factory workers, Brownsville underwent a major demographic change in the 1950s that saw an influx of African-American and Latino residents. Since then, it has consistently held one of the highest poverty and crime rates of any neighborhood in New York City."

ActionKid,...you are one of the" BEST" KZbinrs showing viewers scenes from the streets and neighborhoods of New York City and it's five boroughs! as far as i'm concerned.... and probably quite a few others feel the same,... you probably are the BEST! You need to be recognized and given some kind of special video or film award. Your videography and filming methods are excellent. Also the fact that you are narrating your videos is a big plus!

It depends. There’s a lot of contrast, meaning there’s areas that are extremely dense and filled with people like Times Square and the Lower East side. But in the deep neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx it’s pretty much a different world.

They mailed a photo showing me and my location so I only realized where I was, from the ticket. Paid it with no remorse for running the light. LOLOLOL! The scaffolding all throughout the housing projects doesn’t look related to any renovations on the buildings because they’re not close enough to the buildings themselves. Rather, the scaffolding appears to provide some potential cover for pedestrians from any potshots coming from the windows above.

In Cleveland and Northeast Ohio housing projects and Section 8 residences are usually very well maintained, better than most common landlords and management companies which have a lot of slumlords even in what would be considered nicer neighborhoods. Because of annual inspections owners Section 8 and housing projects are kept in check and must fix and upgrade things. So some counties are doing good humane things for people. If the residents of these places have a sense of pride or standards they can turn it all into nice places to live regardless of income.

I like and appreciate a lot of your walking tour videos...this one seems to have a more negatively slated vibe though. For example: * Garbage mentioned numerous times and words used like "unsightly" and "nobody wants to see that", when there is objectively much more garbage shown in your other recently narrated video in Soho/Greenwich village(literally every few feet in some spots), so much so that it constricts one part of the sidewalk to a single-file...and it's only mentioned once, and only for making the already narrow streets more narrow...no mention of unsightlyness or attracting vermin such as rats and roaches in that neighborhood * Mentioned "hope I dont get murdered", then wave it off as it's not like back in the 70s/80s so you actually were not worried...so why mention it at all? Just a little unnecessarily bleak IMO * City workers shown actually collecting garbage bags at roughly the 19mins30secs mark...no mention of that....but more "unsightly garbage" mentioned right after * Fencing around vegetable garden mentioned (assumed) as anti-theft measure because this is a "rough neighborhood"...when the more likely reason is to keep stray dogs and cats from eating or destroying the vegetables. Just an observation...I'm a lifelong NYer and I appreciate your videos highlighting pockets of the city I've never been to or haven't seen in ages and seeing how things have changed
@ActionKid
@ActionKid 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Keep in mind some of my commentary may be a bit satirical and may not reflect what is actually happening. I mention about the garbage more here because some of the garbage is placed in spots where I wouldn’t expect it to be placed - whereas in Greenwich Village the garbage is placed on the sidewalk for collection. The “hope I don’t get murdered” commentary is entirely satirical. You have to stay aware of your surroundings wherever you are. I wouldn’t be comfortable walking around this area in the 70s and 80s because violent crime was so abundant. I didn’t talk about the city workers collecting the garbage because it was something I overlooked in the video. The garbage comment at 20:06 is because it was unsightly. It wasn’t neatly packed into bags. The fencing commentary is satirical. It was brought up by a user in the non-narrated version of this video and I found it funny.

I'm high and I have this thoughts. In Poland even in a day light there are lot of "hood members" chillin, drinkin etc. You walkin next 2 them and if they didnt know you 9of10 they will say smth 2 U, like u lookin 4 trouble or smth like dat. Maybe they will not shoot u but can beat you up or use some knifes. This Brownsville looks like a nice place - lot of green, big buildings, playgrounds, lots of cars with chrome wheels. Just sayin, compare dis to some place in poland, russia or cape town. Maybe in 60's-90's it was horrible and not looking so well. Shit this is so interesting, love to explore dis kind of hoods and areas! But anyway video is real cool and thanks for sharing it, love to watch !

hey actionkid. could you do some narrated walks of weird areas/houses or places with a spooky story behind them? also maybe areas with hidden little gems that on one would expect to find in the concrete jungle called new york? in japan, tokyo, you can find like a little shrine in the middle of tokyo like right off the beaten path between two buildings out of nowhere. stuff like that. thanks man and keep up the narrated walks. they are my favourite ones.

A very wild and dangerous area since the crack epidemic ! And the police do nothing about drugs and gang violence , until an area is gentrified, that is how other parts of Brooklyn became calm and peacefull!

Yes, I lived in Greece for some time in the early 70's and it was grand. It was before humanity made the beauty of these places into only "club atmospheres". not for me I liked the simplicity of the people and the country back then. Air travel is not the same not fun at all. I travelled when it was good. Drove by car to many states too, over the years, with my dogs in tow. I do know the difference it is now preference.

There is not a large Asian population in Brownsville but they do own the Chinese restaurant and nail salons in the area so that is why you see them in the area.
