I love it when people really make a starter video, that somebody details even the lost basic stuff so that you can start from nothing.

I have been thinking about making walking sticks, I had some ideas already, but no real direction as to what and/or how to use the materials. This gives me a good start. Thanks for the advice, enjoyed watching sir.

That stick at 3:27 is so beautiful! It’s a perfect example of why I love finding pieces that have grown into naturally weird and wonderful shapes rather than buying from a hardware store and carving from there! Thank you so much Dennis for making these videos, I’ve just started here but am now going to watch through your other walking stick videos, as I’ve just made my first attempt (also just released a video about it if you’re interested) so I want to learn some more before my next attempt!!

I too love a good stick. I have looked for good sticks in Old Jerusalem (Really wanted one from an olive tree for obvious reasons) , Dogubeyazit Turkey (Mount Ararat), South Africa, and Tanzania.

I found quite a few last camp trip & one log I wanted was too big & in a cave, but I revised my plan & un-wedged it from the rocks & floated it down the river several hundred yards even though only one end floated. Used my dogs leash to drag it to camp, but it is an interesting piece of wood to embellish my camper project.

I always had a interest in walking staffs since a child. I use to watch a elder maje them. Seeing th beautiful stains and pyrography on it. I agree not too many videos on creating a walking staff/cane. So I learned thru doing it. I am happy you created this channel for proper knowledge on walking/staffs etc.

If you are using a dremel tool, there's not much difference in the wood you use. Just use any of what is considered hardwoods. Thanks for watching and your comment.

Could you explain types of wood that are good for walking sticks?
@OzarkArtsandCrafts
@OzarkArtsandCrafts Жыл бұрын
About any of the hardwoods make good candidates for the walking sticks. As you know, in Missouri we have and abundance of hardwoods and there are lots of saplings to choose from. Some people only like the straight stick while others, like myself, prefer those with some curves or natural twists. The main thing is stability and that means nothing less than 1" dia at the tip and 1 1/2 to 2" at top. I just may try making a video on the top 5 woods to use. I like everything outdoors and also arrowhead hunting. Thanks for your comment.

As a rule, hardwoods are better. As long as the stick is strong and not brittle. Keep in mind, Walking Sticks are not meant to support a lot of weight. That is what canes are for! Walking sticks are more for stabilization and path clearing. That is in my opinion. Thanks for your comment.

@OzarkArtsandCrafts

Not sure of what kind of wood that one is. I pick them mostly according to their strength and solidarity then for a more appealing look,. Thanks for your comment.
