Walking the cup is a tig welding technique and its a good one.
Mostly used on pipe but occasionally comes in handy for other jobs too.
If you have ever walked a 55 gallon drum across a shop floor, you understand how it works.
In this video I found some scrap pieces of 303 free machining stainless and chucked then up in a turntable and made a multipass weld walking the cup.
For a total of 7 passes.
I brought you along for the ride and filmed almost every pass.
It is my sincere hope that someone passes a welding test, gets a job, gets a raise, or is better able to support their family as a result of watching this video.

Your the man. I've never needed to walk the cup since I'm not a pipe welder but I'd luv to learn. I use so much of what you done on this channel at work. Helping me become a better welder. Thank you so much for making these videos!

I absolutely love my Tig finger and the XL. Just welded my bumper with Tig on the outside, 1/8” 7018 on the inside. Tig Finger really keeps the fingers cool. Just don’t touch the Tig finger(on the outside) after using it in a hot spot, don’t ask 🤣

I’ve always been curious about how far my stick out should be. In this video you’ve described it it should be roughly the same distance as your cup size. pretty awesome. I just got done getting my LDGL setup together because what I'm doing is just roasting my torch fingers. I chose a long 10 for everything too hot and 6, 8, 10 short LDGL cups for short runs... Stubby gas lens are great for me usually, but man the closeness to the material really unloads the heat onto my fingers. Figured out a way to drop the torch heat itself off almost entirely. Take your GF or maybe your kids silicone hair ties, then wrap the handle of your torch by doubling them up. Nearly free and no hot hands anymore! 😂
