I remember Miyajima as a wonderfully peaceful place. The hiking trails up the mountain are beautiful. A river flows down from above and in some places there are small waterfalls and great bridges. In the area around the pagoda there were also one or two traditional shops with wooden furniture (on the left into the street next to the small fire station). I will come back here at least once again on the first ferry of the day if everything is still so nice and quiet. Thank you for taking us on this magical journey. 🤗

So beautiful and so informative. Your videos not only amaze and teach me but they are so calming and therapeutic for me. I have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and it is difficult to find calming yet interesting ways to focus my thoughts. Your videos are like intensive therapy for me as the minute I begin to watch your videos my mind calms very quickly and I begin to relax. I could live at your most recent video location. It’s so clean and inviting and the scenery is magnificent. The many shops and cafe’s are so quaint and majestic. I so wish I lived there as the ambiance and environment would be so healthy for mind, soul and body. You are both such a magnificent treat for me.

I had myself a close encounter with the nature kind last week too. I went for a short walk along the river that runs along side the college I work at. I had to wait for a minute or two for a flock of Canadian geese coming out of the river to cross the walking path. The geese then proceeded to block another part of the path that went back to the building. They finally moved off the trail a bit so I tried to sneak past them but apparently they thought I was too close. I've of the adults hissed at me a couple times as I was going by. The goslings are getting pretty big but they are still cute.

Shinichi, next time you go to Miyajima I highly recommend going to a cafe called Tenshinkaku. It's a complete hidden gem, a little cafe high on the hill with an amazing view. Even though it's right in the center near the temple and the Torii gate hardly anyone is there and it's so beautiful.

I must say, I share your aversion to nature. And I make no apologies for it 😀 I live near a countryside area near London, but the last year has been boring for me, having to go for country walks for something to do instead of going to check out food markets or new restaurants in London. I would much rather be where the action is! I do often muse how much the walks I go on would be much improved with a few Asian food trucks en route. 🤣

Comment: Part 2 Thanks for sharing the second part of your walking tour. Specifically I was touched by you opting to get your ice cream cone from Obaasan. I can relate to this since I would opt to support those who has stood the test of time providing the treats over many years. They have put in the time and effort so others may benefit. I believe we are on the same page. When I visit Miyajima I will search out Obaasan's shop. Regarding deer...I would be tempted to befriend the deer(s) and even be tempted to feed same. But in my dealing with wild / feral animals sometimes it's best to have them stay accustomed to feeding in the "wild". However, you were also correct to point out not having the child throw anything towards the deer to get a reaction would have been inappropriate.

Sugoi! What a nice place. I would love to visit there. Very nice of you to buy the ice cream from the local shop, instead of the fancy one. I would have done the same. Lots of good food to try there. The deer are very friendly, not scared of hoomans. ( You know people probably do feed them every once in awhile. )

Heehee. Deer generally won't hurt you. In mating season, bucks might get a bit more confrontational if you accidentally sneak up on one but generallly they're mellow, especially if they're used to being that close to people. There's deer here where I live, just occasionally I'll nearly bump into a buck that wandered close to my garage, but Usually it's the does that hang out here. (Also is there a word for those sunshades over the shotengai? I'm thinking making something like those might be a nice solution for a patio here that is hard to design for. :) )

With respect to the first few houses you comment on. Ive read that real estate in Japan is different to some other places. That for a lot of young people inheriting a property can be bad, costing a lot of money. Also that this problem of abandoned houses is particularly bad in more rural communities as people tend to prefer living closer to large cities. This often causes some smaller rural communities to be in danger of disappearing; something similar happening in parts of Europe. Is this true? Or is the issue not as bad as I have read 😅 love these videos btw!
@Shinichisworld3 жыл бұрын
Actually it is true. So one of the things I’d like to do is to visit these more rural areas this year.
