Skid Row in Los Angeles is one of the most well-known areas for homelessness in the United States. It has a long history of being a hub for people experiencing homelessness, dating back to at least the 1930s². Today, it is estimated that between 4,200 and 8,000 people live on the streets of Skid Row⁴.
The area spans about 50 city blocks and is known for its high concentration of shelters and services for the homeless². Unfortunately, it also faces significant challenges, including widespread substance abuse and mental health issues¹. Efforts to address the crisis have been ongoing, but the situation remains complex and difficult to manage¹.

**Fentanyl Crisis**: Between 2014 and 2023, over 2,100 people living on the streets of Los Angeles County and in homeless shelters lost their lives due to fentanyl-a powerful synthetic opioid. Last year alone, there were more than 1,000 drug-related deaths among unhoused individuals, including a record-high of 728 fentanyl overdoses⁶.

❣💯 TY, Street Life, for great videography of the Skid Row Man washing his feet in the fire hydrant and topping off a bucket to take back to his tent for a bath. You can see how much better he feels just to balance out the dysregulation of all that street stress!

❣💯 Question, SL: You captioned that the "FOOD" building was "torn down" on the corner for affordable housing. Was it actually demolished or rather re-purposed into affordable units?? Either way, it's a good start to show the political will of the city to house the unhoused so they don't have to bathe in fire hydrants.

Torn down the new building is recessed back from the street. Yes it’s a good start but now more will come. They have a fence around it so homeless can’t pitch tents in front of it. Thanks for watching

Welcome back, Mr. Whelan, and it's about time. We were all rooting for you! The homelessness problem on LA's Skid Row and nationwide has been here since I can remember the War on Poverty in the history books, was that the 1960s of Lyndon Johnson? Nancy Reagan coined, "Just say NO" to drugs. Nancy, wherever you are, just look around at all the addicting drugs pouring into California. Saying NO is wasted breath. Where is the political solution to stopping the illegal flow of drugs over the California border? How long does it take to more equitably distribute the wealth among the socio-economic classes. This is more a class issue than a race issue but being a person of color increases the odds of poverty exponentially. And if you're a poor, black woman, the odds of disenfranchisement in the system, is a triple whammy. The women are regularly physically assaulted there on Skid Row, especially in the dark of the night, and what is being done about it? Newsom just announced his Sweep of the Streets, so now where are all the unhoused going to go while he's sweeping the streets, with his ball cap turned backwards?

I guess my point is it's not bad with just tent's but the garbage they leave so sad for the business owners and renters open drug use what have we come to ❤❤❤❤❤

Honestly,letting it get to this point to establish the homeless industrial complex is beyond belief.Involutary commitment for drugs,alcohol and so on would be a start.Also,REFUSING assistance is another.Jailing people in this state,other than outstanding warrants is a waste of time.And for NGO's and the like that interfere with this proactive approach they should be arrested and charged accordingly.The taxpayer funded sports areas could be used as assembly points now it's,oh the sweeps they(sic) will go elsewhere is not an excuse.What really is sad that there are people in their sixties that have made bad life choices that are living this way and expect a bailout.The whole inner city as an economic model has been dead for decades.But the uniparty in California is like,"oh nothing to see here"They created it........

This documentary is most sad to see * is not that's beyond repairing _ is the inefficiency of the government * there's tons of money for so many nonsense and wasted tax payers money not to forget the millions sent overseas to help foreign countries and design on purpose we rather look to the other side without acknowledging the monumental problem inside the country _ this is discussing * refusing help to those that can't help themselves 😮
