In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 4 mile circular walk from the village of Leigh which is located 5 miles South of Sherborne. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car in the village and started my walk with a visit to the Church of St Andrews before initially heading West, past what was once the Carpenters Arms pub.
My route then took me north along a footpath through fields to join up with Church Lane Track. This brought me back to Leigh and after exploring the village, I continued Eastwards through Corton Farm & on past Lower Totnell Farm. After crossing a road,I followed an old drover's route - Morgan's Drove - South to join up with another drove …. Long Bridge Drove.
I continued in a South Westerly direction before picking up Bolter's Drove. This took me North back to the village, passing the location of what was once a Miz Maze many years ago.
My final destination was the Leigh Post Office & Stores where I enjoyed a scone & a cup of coffee.
Some parts of the route where very muddy - even though I was walking in June - so waterproof footwear is a must!
