Fantastic narration, thank you! You should have a TV show, seriously. We have a public tv station in the states called PBS, they regularly put British drama, britcoms, and European travel shows. I think your videos would suit them very well.

Visited Arundel in the 90s with some friends from Emsworth. A lovely day out on the train and a nice walk in the town and up the hill to the Castle and Cathedral. It was was as you described. Still, I sometimes like all of the trappings of a ''tourist" destination including the brass rubbing and the antiques. Thanks for the video!

Lovely video Richard, brought back many childhood memories, as I used to spend my summer school holidays in Arundel staying on my uncles farm just on the outskirts of town, some fifty odd years ago. Hasn’t changed much in all that time, really hope to get back there one day soon.

It's a nice walk, and I've seen swans nesting along that path, but it can get very muddy. My sister, dad and I once walked into town via the river, but my sister was only wearing flip-flops, so we had to climb over the wall and go along the road.

I'd commend to any visitor the walk up Mill Road (between the Castle and the River) towards Offham...there's a beautiful parkland at Swanbourne Lake (get your walking legs on, or there's a nice cafe too!)...on the other side of the road there's the Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre (birdlife galore), and further up near Offham is a wonderful riverside pub, the Black Rabbit...the lunches are to die for, and if the weather's fine you can dine out by the river and watch the swans go by... Back in town, the Cathedral's well worth a visit too...surprisingly lofty within and some lovely windows...in the town centre do wander a little...some of the shops are fascinating! It's a place I've always loved (does it show?).

Story I heard about Arundel Castle is that in the 19th century the local earl inherited it, and he didn't quite know what to do with himself having all this wealth handed to him. He grew long hair and a beard and wore poor clothes and wandered around like a hermit. One day he was in the local train station and a woman whistled at him to come and carry her bags for a penny, derisively remarking it was probably the only honest work he'd ever done. He agreed and took her bags for a penny, never revealing his identity.

Mark Howard Hello Richard. This comment on your Arundel expsode is about three years late, bur I just today discovered you and your video walks while exploring Google Earth. Aruldel has long fascinated me because my paternal forebears insisted that we are offshoots of the Dukes of Norfolk Howards of England. I can trrace my family in the U.S. only to the late 18th century, with no link ,yet to the English Howards. Aruldel castle might one day be mine if seven million people named Howard happen to die all at once. Little chance of that, so I entertain myself by studying English history as pertains to the Howard line. Your glimpses into history are helpful and well done. Some day I might even visit the UK and see some of these things for myself.
