My favourite kind of pan setup, placing the camera just ahead of the wing leading edge, or inline with twin propellers. Provides a very real-pilot perspective. Very slick how the servo was integrated into the Altus, just like it was meant to be. A very scenic and relaxing demo flight.

Beautiful peaceful place to fly. My field is no longer and currently searching for a new area, I can only wish for space like that to fly.

Great, looks better than the head tracking faf. Think I'll try it with 2 axis and use sliders on the side of my TX16s

Nice and simple, just like my panning setup....Try servo slow Andrew for smooth panning....🤔... Lovely calm day, dull but I find the Avatar system works well on dull days, we have lots of dull days lately....😳😏😀🇬🇧

Bring that thing up this way on your hols sometime, mate. We could do with a search plane with some endurance to run a very large grid over the Taipan Country wherein the wind gusts and lowering white mists transported (1 of) my little LDARC TinyWing450s on Sunday. We did miraculously recover a crashed Drift from the slopes of Mt Hopeless once via a Phantom and room-end sized TV. But the little fellah, I fear, has gone to Boot Hill. 😭🙄

If I buy the pnp version I can add some brushless 2210 since it seems that the ESC it comes with is oversized for the motors it comes with.

hello how to set pan servo in ardupilot. i have tried setting pwm 800-2200 but can't reach 270" 🙏🏻🙏🏻
@AndrewNewton4 ай бұрын
That's all I did in INAV Outputs page. Don't know about Ardupilot. Depends on the servo as well.

Hi Andrew, the link to "My 3D printed camera mount" is not working for me. I found your Thingiverse page, but I cannot find the pan camera mount.
@AndrewNewton21 күн бұрын
Thanks for the alert. Fixed the link but it's not a pan camera mount.

I agree, pan is all you really need when you think about it. Do you use a radio knob or a slider to actuate the pan. I just built my first ever cam pan, found some 350 servos. I'm excited to fly it!

A little bit offtopic question, when flying in misty weather or other kind of mild-wet atmosphere conditions, do you couat your fc/esc/vtx in conformal? And do you provide air to internals, trhough some hole in front of the fuselage?
@AndrewNewton2 ай бұрын
Very dry where I fly so I never think of coating. Yes internal airflow is important, but my cameras and VTx are always external

Andrew I'm looking to buy a FPV foamy for a friend and his son, it's a toss up between the altus and the swordfish I think, however I own neither, I like my flying wings. Which of the two would you recommend? Dad had some experience with Balsa models back in the day but both he and the lad have been putting in the hours on a simulator so they aren't completely raw. Wadaya reckon?
@AndrewNewton4 ай бұрын
Hard to choose really. Altus is a bit tougher and easier to work on but the Swordfish is more efficient and handles the wind better. Just go for the cheapest or whichever is in stock.
@m3chanist4 ай бұрын
@@AndrewNewton Fair enough, both have points to recommend them then, I'd tend toward the robustness based on my own early "landings" but yes the cost difference could throw in a few extra props.. Cheers Andrew.

Hi Andrew, I also have the HD PRO KIT. I have noticed that the transmitter gets very warm after a short time. ( at 25 MW ). I use a Speedy Bee F405. ( 9V on the digital output ). I have also installed a plug so that I can only supply the transmitter with power shortly before starting. Do you have a solution to this problem? With kind regards. Didi
@AndrewNewton15 күн бұрын
Yes they all heat up a lot. Same as you, just power up the VTx when ready to launch
@DidiWebster-n9b14 күн бұрын
Hi Andrew, thanks for your reply. In my experience with electronic devices, this cannot be useful for lifetime. Many of my analogue transmitters also get warm, but not after such a short time. I hope Caddx is working on this problem, otherwise it will be expensive fun for many FPV pilots. Thanks for the nice videos and greetings from cold Switzerland. Didi

I have successfully put an analogue camera onto slip rings and a 360 degree servo. Unlimited panning in any direction. Haven’t got into digital yet, or kmow if the slip rings will pass digital signals. Has anyone tried it?
@AndrewNewton4 ай бұрын
That's clever!
@m3chanist4 ай бұрын
Depends on the slip ring re digital. I've used them to carry fieldbus and ethernet in an industrial setting, minature units but pretty $pendy. So it can work, very reliably I'd add but it really comes down to the quality of the slip ring, no harm trying. moog have a white paper on the topic you may want to take a look at.

I'm not into FPV or camera-tracking doobries (I'm mainly a glider nut, so... flaps, variable camber, etc.), but this kind of application should (hopefully) alert more radio manufacturers to the importance of providing a couple of good slider controls besides the usual battery of (cheap, largely useless) 2- and 3-position switches on their non-specialist transmitters.
@AndrewNewton4 ай бұрын
Yes transmitter for INAV and gliders share a lot of features.
@AerialWaviator4 ай бұрын
I second this request. A slider, or finger controlled roller on the side of the transmitter, with an indent or haptic feedback to mark centre position.
