I've had horses my whole life and in 2010 I agreed to winter a Mustang , of course she is still here. One attribute not advertised about the Mustang is how CLEAN they stay. Everyone comes in gross on muddy days,, not Tiva she is always clean !

The sign of a good rider is knowing your horses limits and not letting your competitive instincts take over to please a crowd. Hwin was retired after clearing that fence as Elisa knew that ponys limits. Well done for not trying to win as the crowd would expect a 4* rider to. ❤

@@belindastergaard5012 They aren't truly wild- that distinction belongs to Przewalski's Horse BUT, they are feral and not handled by humans at all until they are caught. Their first experiences with humans is pretty traumatic (chased by helicopters, run until they're exhausted, sometimes to the point of severe injury or even death), then they're separated from their stallions, the stallions are gelded, etc. It's a terrible way to start any relationship. So, while they're not technically "wild" they are not tame in the least. They may not be "more wild" than their human-raised counterparts and have all the same instincts and desires, but they have had a very, very different life indeed. Hwin, the grey here, and others are fairly biddable and easier to tame down while others... not so much. Please consider doing some research on the difficulty of habituating a formerly feral horse. If you go to Elisa's youtube page you will see two of her latest mustangs and see just how different they can be from each other, and from properly and humanely socialized horses.

For all the haters who think jumping is cruel: I owned a mare who used to jump out of her field and go to the field where we had cross country jumps. There she would gallop around and jump on her own for half an hour or more, My younger sister had a pony who would do the same, often jumping show jumps set for large, experienced horses. I have several friends who've owned horses who jumped all the fencelines around their farms. Harry de Leyer only found out Snowman liked to jump after he sold him to someone else and Snowman jumped all the fences between that farm and Harry's. Horses like to jump on their own, and those that don't want to jump with a rider refuse. And maybe you should check out Elise's videos about training and riding horses without tack and bareback in a halter, not to mention her video about the 7 bits she most often uses. Instead of assumign jumping and bits are cruel, educate yourselves.

Last time I was looking to possibly buy one, one of the stipulations was that you had to have a 6 foot fence to contain them. But they do have a mind of their own because they've had to care for themselves since foals. I've known people who have gotten some for competitive trail riding through North American Trail Riding Association, that swear by them for that sport.

Soooo according to you, getting a FERAL horse from the BLM who has had little to no training and even less interaction with human, isn't wild? Well, technically, that is true. But they have lived in wild places where other horses don't and have lived in these areas for decades. So while you argue on a technicality, these horses need to learn at an older age than most of the "tame" horses that people can be a good thing. I admire anyone who takes on the challenge of training a Feral/Wild horse in the way this trainer does.

Tricia Todd Hwin (the Mustang) was able to do the flying changes because he was trained to do that, he isn’t a wild mustang anymore, Elisa Wallace trainer him for the mustang makeover either previously to this event or after I’m not sure, but he used to a wild/untamed mustang be though!

I've seen wild horses do this with no training. Some horses do it, some don't. Of those that don't, most can be trained to. Most trained horse behaviors are natural behaviors that are built on. Even the Lippizaners "Airs Above The Ground" are taken from things the horses do on their own. I was just watching a colt do a courbette - he's barely halter broke (only about 6 months old), His owner can't wait for him to get big enough to start training under saddle.

Just males, removing ovaries from horses is extremely dangerous to the horse and costly. It's usually only done for medically necessary reasons (ovarian tumors or extreme hormonal issues). Castrating the males can be done within minutes and is an external procedure. If the male is a ridgling (one or both undesended) than they also adopt them out whole with special instructions.

Hwin is a wild caught mustang that was chosen for the tip challenge. These horses get rounded up by helicopter, put in coralls, cold branded and gelded (if male). They stay stuck in corralls for the rest of their lives unless adopted. The mustang challenge is a project meant to advertise the plight of the corralled horses and to encourage more people to adopt and train them.
