Walleye are NOT in the pike family. Walleye are in the Percidae family and pike are in the Esocidae family. Perch are also from the Percidae family.

I've never understood the hatred for pike. They're a fantastic gamefish in my humble opinion and I would rather catch 1 pike than 5 largemouth. But, I mean that's what makes the sport of fishing great...everyone can fish for what they are into. I just hate to see people kill pike and toss them on the banks. Terrible waste... I highly recommend "zipper"ing your walleye filets. Gets rid of the tiny bones that run down the lateral line. I prefer Pike also for the same reasons you gave, but both are delicious.

Being from michigan i catch a lot of both walleye and pike. Id have to say its a day by day choice for me but i love to eat both. You should come here in the spring and hit the walley run on the detroit river or the st. Clair river. Its insane!!!!!

I like both. They are very different tasting but I also cook them very different. I bread and fry or bake the pike, but I cook my walleye in butter, onions and sometimes some mushrooms. I add a little seasoning or just some salt and pepper. To me walleye and pike are like apples and oranges. Great video! Keep them up.

I have caught a lot of pike, but I haven’t eaten them. They are my top favorite fish to target, followed tightly behind are bass. Still need a musky and a bowfin to mark off the list, but northerns and bass are my main targets. Awesome video dude, keep up the good work!

Pike are really good and once they start getting from about that 28 inch range and up they are easier to Clean and there’s a trick to it . You start out setting fish on its stomach the starting at the head cut down to its spine . Once at spine turn knife and cut straight down spine to the dorsal then turn knife upwards and out you will basically have the back strap with no bones at all in meat. Then you will see all the y-bones and cut down the sides till you hit bones and straight down to the tail .

For just flour coating and fry in butter Walleye but any other method of cooking like deep fry in batter, fish curry, fish pie etc then i use Pike. Pike over 30 inches i soak in milk first.

For eating as is pickrel for sure. Don't forget the cheeks! Nice fresh water scallop. Sadly the lake where I am is getting over fished. Pike are more dominant now but when I get one ill keep either. Just make sure you know how to do the 5 peice fillet

I have done blind taste tests and try to do them with huge critics of northern pike. The ones that throw the pike back and call them slough sharks and such. It is so funny to see their faces after they try a well seasoned piece of walleye and pike. Even the ones who can tell due to the texture still have to give a thumbs up and some respect to the northern pike. That doesn't even get into the fight these fish put up.

Just found your channel a little while ago. And I will always prefer walleye to a pike. Mostly because there are way less bones in the walleye. But where I'm from the pike can get pretty slimy in warm water. But if you can get one in extremely cold water they are very comparable to a walleye. Would like to make a recommendation and a video id love to see. Make a road trip video up to lake winnipeg ice fishing. Notorious for 30+ inch walleye up here! Great videos man.

When u fillet a fish with a fillet knife...u can go around rib cage...use the tip of knife to follow back bone...then just ease it off...electric knife hack right through...justatip

Bombs_Away_motoworks There are lakes up here in the great white north that are filled with 5+ pounders, which are around the 30" range. Big deep diving rapellas trigger them like its their last meal. It's so much fun, I'm not one to go after pike on the norm but man oh man finding those big ones, there's nothing like it.

You know what’s funny this is the first video I watched on your channel. I watched the first video first and relished that there was just something a little to familiar looking about the Casey’s and one and one. I lived a block away from where you were camping and I fish on those lakes almost everyday. I was about a year late seeing it which sucked. I also did not relise that the lakes had small mouth bass until I looked it up. Also in the video before this if you fish along those teirs under the bridge you’ll catch some nice blue Gill or green sunfish. I caught my first pike under those teirs which just so happen to be a silver pike.

you can just go to Joe Tess Place and get a whole live carp from the fish market in the back corner. i thought carp was a trash fish too before i went to Joe Tess Place and they were selling carp and said it's one of their best sellers so i had to give it a try. it was amazing. and this time of year around lent they have the tail sections for like $1.50 a pound. you can buy their signature breading too to fry it up in. Theyre over off of 75 and Q down in little Mexico in Omaha

Northern pike were actually once a staple food fish in medieval Europe. The ancient Millikens in Ireland probably had big shindigs with northern pike and then did some drunken shenanigans.

I love pike just as much as walleye. I make my pike with egg and panko bread crumbs with Cajun and the walleye with magic fry and creole seasoning. Boom grub on. Honestly, I liked my pike better. Always fry in peanut oil also. Fish tacos are awesome. Fresh habanero slaw and chipotle mayo. Nuggets are key. Great video.

Pikes and perch are quite common in Poland. Every time we go camping we catch few. Unfortunately a lot of predatory fish are hard to catch in the area cos people fish daily for food :)

Never have caught walleye, only eaten it in restaurants. But I have cooked up pike I've caught, and they are pretty damn good, especially at that size! once they get around 30 inches, sometimes they aren't quite as tasty. Also that five piece method is definitely the way to do it, the meat stays boneless and you avoid the tough meat that way.
