My husband just passed his onboarding last week! We live in WA state and his onboarding was at the DC in Utah. He passed on a Thursday, got home on Saturday and he started orientation today, Tuesday! Everything you have said in this video is 100% accurate as far as the onboarding process. My husband watched many of your videos prior to getting his onboarding scheduled. @@getrichwalmart Thanks! I sure hope so. I was on the Walmart dedicated account with Schneider pulling out of the Sterling, IL grocery DC, so I have an advantage there, I would say. I’ve delivered to every Walmart and Sam’s in IL (including city of Chicago), southern WI, and eastern IA. It was my favorite trucking job but the Schneider pay was terrible. Fingers crossed.

@@animalmorgan4124 I was in the exact same position as you before coming to walmart. My only trucking experience was with a flatbed at Prime Inc. The first time I ever hooked to a van was on my first day at onboarding. So don't sweat that, there's nothing to it. It was a little weird during the driving assessments not being able to see over the deck in my mirrors, but it wasn't any different than hauling a full load of insulation panels rubrail to rubrail, and I never let on that it was something new to me. Side note: during my first pre-trip assessment at onboarding, the instructor unexpectedly asked me to explain the process of sliding the tandems. I had never slid tandems before that, but had learned or seen it somewhere along the way, probably on KZbin lol.

I’m at dc #6023 currently a yard driver… I see them come through the yard.. very disciplined drivers… I’ve only had my cdl a year.. I think once I get a year in the dc on the yard.. think I’m goin to give it a shot… thanks for the info..

I really appreciate you I will be reaching you for more information of how to get onboard I started 10 months with a company that that hired newbies from the CDL school I attended, but the management are very poor Hours to wait for a truck that may not work, with a loan of $ 7000 + and running a 270 miles to 56 miles a day , it’s a waste of time

Keep in mind you'll have to have at least 30 months of experience before becoming eligible at Walmart.

Damn , 5 days , another 3 more days of orientation and 2 weeks of mentorship. U have to really mentally prepare for that . Thats almost like starting trucking at the beginning again. I mean i get it but this job has to really be worth it money wise to go through all that cause that is alot man. Cant say it's hard but i think more drivers deter from there because of the process and how strict they can be . I might be wrong

Agree. Im kind of nervous as I haven't been through anything like the onboarding since the 90s. Have either run for myself or for a company that ran ag exempt. ( Not so strict)😂

It isn't too much to sweat over, really. If you can drive and back a truck, you're 2/3 of the way already. Getting the pre trip down is probably the hardest part

@@whitebmw528i If I hear you correctly, you aren't a driver yet. If so, you won't be eligible to be a Walmart driver until you have at least 30 months of tractor-trailer experience. The only other way to get in is to be a Walmart associate (employee) for at least one year.

@@andrepoole2933 that depends on what you're talking about. In Walmart terms GM usually stands for General Merchandise, as in a GM distribution center that delivers basic non-grocery Walmart products. Douglas, GA is a GM DC, I believe. My DC is a grocery DC.

He's swamped with interview appointments but he's basically reviewing the online app you submitted, give you a list of the "non-negotiables" (what's required of you) and my take on it is a nearly spotless MVR is key to atleast get the interview. Then standby for emails & background investigation, you will have plenty of time to notify current employer before attending onboarding

@@cassiuszzzzzz2638 there are second chances, but you have to wait a period of time before applying again. I forget exactly how long. 6 months maybe. So only you can decide whether or not to give your current employer notice. That's a tough decision. I did give my employer notice, but I knew that they would take me back in a second if things fell through with onboarding. If they value you as a driver, your company should do the same. But again, only you can make that call.

I’m in Lexington SC (Smack dab in the middle). Seems my nearest DC is Laurens SC 72 miles NE. Then Pageland SC 97 miles NW, then Ridgeville SC 91 miles SE. I understand trucks are used 7 days a week. Would I POV back and forth to my home DC for days off? Is parking the truck at a Walmart / Sam’s an option? I’m a non smoker. Is there a chance that I would share a truck with a smoker? @@BigJesse579 yes you start and end your week at your home DC. So you POV to your house & back on your weekend. Since your truck is sometimes needed during your days off, parking at a store isn't an option. All Walmart trucks are non-smoking now, so you won't have that problem. Yes, you may share a truck with a smoker, but he or she won't smoke inside the truck.

How does pay work once you get in a truck with a mentor? I’ve always wanted to drive for Walmart and got my conditional offer today. Excited, but also worried about finances while transitioning. Once I leave the good paycheck where I am, I’m a little worried how long I’ll have to wait until I’m getting a full grown paycheck from Walmart. Especially going into the fall with the holidays coming up.

@@JohnTalley-q5c onboarding and orientation is paid at $24 an hour. You give them your bank account info on day 1 and they direct deposit at the next biweekly pay period. For mentorship, you get paid mileage and activity pay, just like a regular driver. There should be very little interruption in your pay, besides waiting for that first bi-weekly check.

@@jonathangomez8269 You only need to live within 250 mi of the DC you plan to work out of AFTER training. - The onboarding is only one week, and will be at a select DC in your region. Walmart pays for transportation to/from, meals, and lodging during that week. - Orientation and mentorship will last up to 3 weeks, and will be at your "home" DC. They pay for your lodging during this time also, unless you live close enough to commute daily. If you're talking about the Associate to Driver program, it's pretty much the same thing. They ship you out to the training center in your area, wherever that may be. Then you eventually end up back at your home DC. As for a list, drive4walmart.com it has a list of all DCS that are currently hiring. Look there to (hopefully) find one near you.

(KZbin) I have some questions for you: I currently work at a Walmart in Hoover-Alabama, I have all my documents and papers in Rules but I am HISPANIC. I want to know if Walmart's internal training program for new truckers is active here (in ALABAMA). I HAVE BEEN DRIVING 18 AND 22 WHEEL HEAVY DAILY TRUCKS IN MY COUNTRY FOR MANY YEARS I want to enroll in Walmart's internal training program because I do not have a CLASS A CDL. Do you know: WHERE, WHEN AND HOW I can start the training. I work the night shift. From 10 at night to 7 in the morning stocking merchandise on the shelves in the hallways. I am afraid to ask my direct supervisor and my store manager for this information because I fear that instead of helping me. Maybe they just discourage me. And just advise me to forget about that idea. I fear that they are worried about running out of staff, among other things. I am a father with three beautiful daughters and I am truly passionate about being a truck driver. I hope you can understand me and help me with the information. I just applied and the application takes forever lol anyways I live 10mins from a DC here in porterville Ca I was working for western express and the sub haul for Walmart during the holidays and I was going to the stores and different DCs of Walmart but I’ve been doing Cement mixer driving (tanker) for the past year and haven’t done dry van in over 2 years! What do you think of my chances of being invited to onboarding? Also after applying how long til they contact you?

@@andresnoneya I hope the best for you. Honestly, I'm not sure if driving a cement truck will qualify as experience. They specify tractor trailer experience, but hopefully you will still get in. Let me know how you make out. It can take anywhere from hours to days to weeks for them to call you. It all depends on how bad they want drivers at your DC. Good luck!

@@Buffalojack_187 no, unfortunately I do not. Most DCs will operate the same way, so you won't find many differences between them. But I understand you wanting to know the area or specific DC in general. I was the same way. But after coming here, I figured out it's about the same wherever you go.

I have a cdl been driving 16 years. I'm taking a break from trucking at the moment doing overnight stocker at walmart. What would the process be to transfer to driving for walmart?

@@chrischillin6085 First thing is Walmart requires 30 months of tractor trailer experience within the previous four years. So if you haven't been driving for a while, that may knock you out. But as a Walmart employee, you may qualify for the Associate to Driver (A2D) program, which allows Walmart associates to train to be a driver. I don't know a lot of details on that yet so I can't really speak intelligently on the subject. Ask your manager for those details or look on the Wire. We have an AP associate at my DC who hasn't driven for a few years, but kept his CDL active. He qualified for the A2D program and is starting it next month. So you may be able to also.

@@makingithappen3660 congratulations! Think safety in everything you do or say. The recruiter may present you certain scenarios, and ask what you would do in those situations. Your answers should always be the safe option. Otherwise, don't get too nervous over it. It's just another human being asking you a few questions. You got the phone call, so clearly you've made it past the first cut.

Mr. Rich, I had a question about the 30 months experience requirement. I have been employed by Schneider for 29 months, but because they didn't have enough trainers it pushed out my training time so I have been driving solo for about 28 months. When Walmart reviews my application would they be able to tell the difference? Or should I just wait a little longer so I have 30 months solo driving, even though I have been employed as a driver for longer than 30 months?

@@deebly_goncerned I think they're pretty strict about the 30 months of actual DRIVING experience. That's how it's worded on the application. To avoid having your application rejected, I suggest you wait the two more months.

@@getrichwalmart Figured as much, I've waited this long won't hurt to wait a little longer. I've also heard it's almost impossible to get hired on as a new driver in Florida. From the guys I've talked to you have to get your foot in the door at another DC and wait for an opening to transfer.

@@heysupguys30 I don't remember what the starting CPM is. But you can't focus on just CPM, because there's activity pay too. It's better to look at it annually. You can make up to $110k in your first year.

I had a back surgery in 2012. I was prescribed medical marijuana because it's legal in my state. I decided to quit using it once I decided to go to CDL school to get a CDL A. I quit 50 days before taking the drug screen for CDL school. I still tested positive for THC. I saw a SAP professional and completed their requirements so that I could go to CDL school. I've been driving for almost a year now. I'm still taking drug screens for my clearinghouse. The failed test was for entry to CDL school. I've never failed a test since. I haven't used it once this whole time. Would Wal-Mart hire me as a driver, since my failed test wasn't while I was working, it happened before I attended CDL school?

@@calvinspiff4348 I'd love to give you an answer, but I really have no idea. It may come down to something simple like if they have 20 applicants, and you're the only one with a failed test, they'll go with the other applicants. I just don't know.

If you've been there a year apply for the Associate to drive program its a 12 week program and if u pass you're in the Walmart private fleet. My year is up in 6 months thats what im going to do i already got my CDL so hopefully i get in first time applying

@@fhonez7295 It varies. I got a call back in 12 hours. Others it can take weeks. One guy just emailed me today saying he finally got a call for an interview after 3 weeks.

It's hard to say. It really depends on things like how many drivers a DC needs, how many applicants there are, how you stand out among the other applicants, and other things. In my case, they called me back the morning after I sent in the application. Other cases may take days or weeks. I wish I had a better answer, but it's just kind of a waiting game.

Yes there are many scheduling options at each DC, and some of them are home daily positions.

That’s what you made mot take home. I grossed 126K last year and my buddy that owns his own truck not just another rent a wreck driver said do way better than him by far after all his expenses and no 38 days of vacation but he answers to no one .

Expenses under 100k and that's with normal repairs and maintenance plus any set Expenses like permits and ins.

@@will74772 no, you can come "green", with no experience. You just have to be a Walmart employee for at least a year to be eligible.

Mister Walmart Driver CDT is short for can’t drive truck sorry there’s a reason why a lot of the newest. Way younger Les experience. Drivers try to act like the Walmart police. All these policies did not exist before you all got it easy . When I got hired get call show up do pre trip with safety manager pass or no pass if you pass then your able to go on driving test if you pass that then you get to have interview via laptop and camera with the terminal manager and two people from corporate . If you pass that you’re in under probation. When I hired on in 2012 I was told 13xx applicants 100 + interviews 5 hires. I applied for ten years straight before I got my chance and passed and in. Anyway I view a lot of CDT OF Drivers that don’t want to drive and milk ADP Again sorry that’s how most of us with longevity feel. On the other hand I feel for the baby sitting and patients I don’t have. BTH way I was informed that I hit 1mil 500 thousand safe miles at Walmart. Probably got 4 million safe miles in my 28 years of driving. Ya it’s long but I get annoyed easily.

You can be annoyed, that's fine. But it doesn't change anything. It isn't 2012 anymore. The "good ol days" are irrelevant. What's important is the way it is NOW. Grumbling about the way it used to be is a waste of time.
