Ordered the HD 8 and it"s going to be delivered today! Thanks for your help on helping me make my decision! Also I have Amazon Prime ever since Amazon started and it would only make since. Also with the Fire 8 if you buy the docking charge station under $30 it turns into show mode with Alexa! So you get a lot more with Fire 8 then the Walmart brand. Great comparison video!

I almost got the Onn tablet, I'm glad I went with the Fire HD 8. Plus you can sideload Google Play on it pretty easily and I can have all my favorite apps.

Plz do a part 2 since onn has rebranded and is a much better brand now and has released a version 2 of the tablet so I think you should compare it to the amazon fire 8 or 10 and I would love to see a part 2

Contrary to what you claim in the review, the Fire HD 8 has a slightly better than 720p screen resolution, NOT 1080p. Only the latest Fire HD 10 has a resolution of 1080p. :)

The latest Fire OS is forked from Pie. A lot of Amazon products use the version forked from nougat still.

My son bought an Amazon Fire HD 8 for me a couple of years ago. It was on sale for $50 but because he works at Amazon he got an extra $5 off. I use it mostly for watching TV shows and it works fine for that. I never tried the Alexa app (mostly because I have an Alexa machine on my computer table). for $45 you can't go wrong.

Bought two of them. If u let the battery run down until it cuts itself off it will not charge back up. Happened with both of the ones I bought.Returned both of them and went with another brand.

I got both the tablets but the charger for the Onn tablet was very bad. I definitely recommend the fire hd 8 tablet and getting Nova Launcher and Fire Toolbox to customize it.

I have the Fire HD 8 2017, and it is a decent tablet. The only problem that I have with it is the lag. It can get super laggy sometimes. It's fine for casual scrolling on KZbin or Reddit, but it's not for the power user. Lol.

The battery is poor in the Onn for sure. However having android 9 inside the Onn gives it a big edge when it comes to apps. When you get the fire 8 your stuck with the Amazon app store and that store is poor compared to google play. You could always try and put android on the Fire 8 but that takes time and you could brick your system.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Fire HD 8. I did and for the price and the tasks a wanted to accomplish with the tablet, I'm very pleased. I use it for nternet browsing, reading ebooks and watching videos (YT, Netflix, Hulu, etc). I have even used word and google docs to write quick one page assignments and it works fine.

The Walmart brand one run's close to stock Android unlike the Amazon one so I'd take stock Android any day! I probably wouldn't buy either of these but I've bought Walmart Brand stuff before like Onn Phone Charger's and BlackWeb Phone Charger's which BlackWeb is also Walmart Brand and I've never had any problem with Walmart Brand Phone Charger's they are cheap but good!

Yes you can get Google Play on the Fire Tablet. I suggest doing the simple modification than it's a decent tablet

The Amazon Fire HD 8 is based on Android 7.1 "Nougat" but they just using their Amazon UI on it. Course it won't come with apps like Google Play cause they want you to use their app store. Going to be honest if someone is looking to buy a tablet and their only choices are the 8" Onn OR Amazon Fire HD 8. I would choose the 8" Onn tablet cause it comes with Android Pie. Let's say the built in speaker is not great I would still choose it cause I can just use a earbuds or a headset.

I actually expected the Amazon tablet to come out better. They're both subsidized tablets, but Amazon, basically being a tech only company, has more of both expertise and an incentive to create a pleasurable experience for buyers, while Walmart has its brick-and-mortar stores to fall back on.

During prime day the fire hd 8 was on sale for $49. I bought it and should be arriving on Friday. Then I'll take a trip over to Microcenter and get a 256 gig sd card. :)

i'd recommend the onn tablet for 2 reasons. 1- it's got 2GB Ram vs 1.5GB on the HD8 (does the new HD8 also only have 1.5 GB? i have the 2017 version) and 2- you get Google Play store.... amazon app store is shit though... utter shit :D it is convenient to use it for amazon prime videos and such. But you can install that on normal android too so meh

You can install Google play on a kindle fire tablet without rooting it. All you have to do is download four files and install them in order. I got my kindle fire tablet as a gift so I didn't have a choice as to what tablet I got, so I installed Google play on it.
