Angle grinder is one of the best power tools ever invented, spending several years working with structural steel and other various steel fabrication I must've spent hundreds of hours using an angle grinder. I'll never forget the day we mounted a circular saw blade on an angle grinder to get some wood cut out of the way in a pinch trying to get the job done at the end of the day., talk a *Death Wheel,* had that thing kicked back it would have torn someone's face off!

OUTSTANDING! Jeweling, huh? I LOVE that effect, ScoutCrafter! Hot rod/car crafter people sometimes use that on instrument panels and such-like. They call it "engine turning". The "Tri-Five" (1955, '56, '57) Thunderbirds featured engine turned instrument panels. Super effect! The "High Water trousers" joke was PRICELESS!

love the jeweling on that knife. It's a great way to dress up a piece and hide minor surface imperfections. However, no amount jeweling is going to fix Jerry Nadler. You may need to grind it off!!!

I've been restoring one of my cars, an '83 Cutlass wagon, this week I'm patching rust and cutting new parts to fit. Well, I came inside to take a break from what was 3 hours of angle grinder "fun" and turned on KZbin to my favorite channel and had myself a busman's holiday! Don't have to be short, you are right about there being much on KZbin but you are an all time favorite! I can't watch five minutes of a big guy like handtoolrescue, and think he's got nothing on Scoutcrafter and just give up on it. Everything has to go in my house when one of your videos comes up. That knife turned out really pretty. I tought of those old Russian medals right away when I saw it!

That's a good looking utility knife, Scout! Now to stick my nose into someone else's business. I would recommend using a full-face grinding shield when you pick up an angle grinder. I've always worn prescription eyeglasses with safety lenses so I felt invulnerable until some time ago when a grinding spall smaller than a poppy seed found its way to my eyeball. The ophthalmologist said I was lucky because another millimeter and it would have landed on the optical center effectively blinding me in that eye. I went right from his office to the welding supply house and bought a face shield.

Very nice one the Walsco knife. Looks like someone overtightened the screw by the dip in the casting. That probably caused the loose blade. BTW you can search Scoutcrafter on his videos.The episode is Double take Junior... Cratex on 02/9/19 yes about a year ago. Love your videos. Learning a lot and buying a lot of cool old tools!

Russian medals and showing the penguin himself - turning commie on us John? 😄 Very well done tutorial on using the flap discs etc. 👍🏻 What I like about your teaching is you are one of the VERY few sources whose advice actually DOES help a newbie know what to look for and avoid to minimize mistakes. Explaining the feel, hold, contact of the wheel with the tool in detail, plus the birdseye view was the mark of a master teacher IMO. You have the (un)common sense/talent to know how to target what we will encounter in practice and help avoid it. I wish the majority of authors writing help books/manuals had been written by someone like you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

Hanging on to your old flappy wheels is a good idea for restoration work. Getting in there with a brand new 40 grit flappy wheel can eaaily remove way more material than you wanted to.

Lightness of touch with an angle grinder - you make it look easy, but a grinder is a beast and, as you say, one slip! On the Walsco knife, could you fill in over the red, using some clear 5min epoxy applied with a cocktail stick to create a deep enamel effect? Knife looks superb btw.

Great show. You were right! Absolutely LOVE that single blade utility and what you were able to do with it. Only thing; it's almost too nice to use. I figure someone, in the past, torqued a blade while they were using it and got it out of line. This may be my favorite restore that you've done. Simply an outstanding job.

Hey Scout, I've had luck with some angle grinder polishing stones from harbor freight. Number 65287. 40 grit to 600 grit. The stones are more forgiving to new users than flap discs or wheels I feel like. Great video.

at 2:05, I don't think so John. I look forward to your video's and don't look at how long they are. Angle grinders = respect. My first one is a 4" grinder not as strong as the bigger ones. I love flap wheels. The worn out ones are good to work with. I sharpen lawn mower blades etc. But they can remove a chunk of material quickly. I loved that utility knife. Jeweling is an awesome technique for metals. I love it.

That utility knife came out be-utiful! Do you know what I was wondering about? Do they make a rubberized paint? Something you can paint on that adds cushioning and grip? Imagine if the inside of the knife had a rubberized blade compartment that silenced any rattle of the spare blades?

Joe- Some guys epoxy a small Neodymium magnet to one half of the knife and then the blades stay silent! =D

I recently bought a Makita grinder. Then watched Stumpy Nubs video where his grinder attacked him. Made me physically ill seeing his injured hand. John could you do a full video teaching how to safely use this tool. I love your longer videos. I learn so much and it gives me the confidence to power up those scarey tools. I think that the knife came with gray paint to cover up casting/scratch flaws and protect from corrosion. You use shellac to protect the shiny metal. You do amazing work! Do you ever make sawdust?

That knife is SHARP and I don't mean just the tight blade either. A while back I bought a new go-devil or splitting maul or Collins axe or whatever you want to call it and of course the point was too thick and blunt for it to start a split right so I took it over to the boulder hole shop to grind it down.They have the big Milwaukee side grinders (6 or 8 inch) with no guards to work on the BIG stuff with. With a trigger switch setup and while I was grinding down the blunt part of the edge and having to shift the grinder around I was thinking that someone could get WRECKED very easy with this tool. The next week one of the grinder crew cut a finger off with one. Can't be too careful. Thanks John CS! Blessings!

Just got a Walsco and it did the same thing and that was my thought after checking all the other mating surfaces with my machinist rule. Wonder how QC at the factory never caught that? Had to be on hundreds or even thousands of them to have a too long standoff.

Hi John- For tools the 4 is easy to maneuver but for big jobs like an anvil I think a 5 or 6 inch would be nice to do the top with! =)

Utility knife looks great. An angle grinder can also be dangerous to your body, especially when you are are using cut off wheels. I saw a guy using one in a body shop and the wheel exploded. He was lucky wearing a face shield. The wheel tore the face shield up. Be careful when using a hand grinder. Safety gear is a must with this tool.
