It stung when I heard he passed recently. I was introduced to Dr. Willaims when he was a Friday fill-in for Rush Limbaugh many years ago. He was a hoot! It was great getting his Twainish wit and wisdom. Dr. Williams, you are missed.

I have to say I generally agree. "Power corrupts..." this we know. The trick is to have the people hold the government in check, and since this was the design of the Founders who wrote our Constitution, which provides for limited government, I choose to fight for those goals.

You're right. I was listening to a very popular radio show the other day, and I listened in incredulous irritation at a caller who confessed voter regret, she voted for Obama based on his persuasive speech and promises. How stupid have we become? I remember thinking to myself, "didn't you EVER consider looking at his voting record?" I am mystified at how educated people can listen to a politician looking for votes, and not be moved to validate their claims.

Actually, I wasn't trying to refute the idea that the minimum wage is harmful or whatever, I am against it. In fact, my question is more "philosophical" than economic. I just didn't buy the idea that if you have to force somebody to do something, it is bad for him. We have minimum wage in my country; if someone came here and ended it, I guess most people would be really pissed, you would have to force this decision - but that doesn't mean that they would be in a worse scenario.

I see where you're coming from but that would depend on if the minimum wage itself is "moral". There is a lot of stuff out there that shows it is harmful in many ways. Honestly, I tink most people just hear "min. wage" and think about what it is for like 2 seconds and just say it sounds good and fair, most aren't going to bother and do the work to find out the real impact of it because people have lives and want to go to the movies instead. Oh well

What if the free market created a solution to your minimum wage by more prosperity bringing on better wages? o_O; I think the minimum wage which hardly ever moves with the actual cost of living (because of the conjured up consumer price index google zerohedge understanding understated inflation ) there would be better wages for everyone depending on the economy, but then again this would also require a simplified tax code, etc. etc.

Resparations is 'old news'? A few people out of millions talking about something doesn't make it news. You said "we've elected an African-American we have nothing left to prove." Who is 'we', are you referring to whites? Williams doesn't know as much as he claims-- like most libertarians. They talk in one hand and shit in the other, because that fills up first. "Fair tax" is an oxymoron.
@RockieRacoon11 жыл бұрын
Examples please.
@simonpurist449911 жыл бұрын
1RockieRacoon The chief example is that Williams claims that secession is Constitutional, simply because 1) James Madison rejected a proposal to allow the federal government to suppress a seceding state; and 2) because he ratification documents of Virginia, New York and Rhode Island explicitly said that they held the right to resume powers delegated. That's NOT why secession is Constitutional! It's because the Constitution is an INTERNATIONAL compact among sovereign states-- just like the UN Charter. Each state was originally sovereign; and none of them RELINQUISHED its sovereignty, but only DELEGATED sovereign powers to state and federal governments. Therefore they can secede-- just like states of the UN can secede, i.e. because sovereign states do NOT lose their sovereignty by forfeiture! They must EXPRESSLY RELINQUISH it-- i.e. they cannot do so by inference. This is the problem with libertarians, i.e. they're chiefly economists and historians, not men of law; and consequently they make substantive and quantitative arguments, not qualitative and legal ones based on the original intentions of the parties in these contexts. As a result, their arguments go around in circles like chasing a wild goose; for example, try watching Tom Woods try to explain the legality of secession, and it's like watching hand-to-hand combat between pre-schoolers since he doesn't have the legal tools to make his argument.
