Exactly, that is how I feel when I've realized that I have wasted 1 full hour on youtube shorts without realizing it. I deleted Tik Tok just to not have the same thing where I really only skim through the videos yet that's what I have been doing still. When I realize it, i decide to read/go out/study a topic/journal/listen to a podcast and so much more. It's in your possession and that's why it's necessary to know how to take action.

Hai, this ain’t my main acc but eh idc So I’m fairly young (under 13) and my mom is planning to start a gym membership for me (I didn’t ask for it) and well I decided “well if ima make my physical health better might as well make my mental health as it was when I was younger” so I watched this and I somehow managed to not scroll or click off and the only times I got distracted was when I was checking out ur house and I got a health notification so I checked it so id say I’m doing well, now ofc I still didnt make any progress cuz it’s been 10 mins… but another way I think could help is less shortening of words (slang) and writing and going for walks could also help, ima go set up the focus and turn off notifications now, this is one of the only ones that ACTUALLY help and aren’t just torture and “self discipline” Thank you.

I can add some ADHD tips: 1. Talk out loud and say what you are going to do and when. 2. Colour lists with markers. Hang them on the wall to not forget them. Out of sight, out of mind. 3. Put round green stickers on the task list whenever you did something for it. Doesnt mean its complete, does mean that you put effort into it and cann visually see the effort. 4. Set timers and challenge yourself to do the task in that time

@larvini 4 ай бұрын
One more tip: it doesn't work for me every time, but sometimes it does. When you really try to focus on one task instead of switching and actually put effort into not switching, your mind will find other things to latch on: for me it's daydreaming. I could be in the middle of writing an email when I come up with a bright idea of immediately jumping up and doing one-leg sit-ups because it's cool and then I tell myself no, stop. You need to finish writing. So then I look at my screen and proceed to daydream about how I've already learned to do one-leg sit-ups and have a calisthenics vlog and thousands of people are impressed with me, asking for advice. That's where the elastic bracelet comes in. As soon as you recognise that you're dreaming, pull back the elastic and hit yourself. Over time the pain discourages you at least from thinking about that particular daydream, even if it can't stop it altogether.

the most important thing that i don't wanna miss out on is me being young and realizing that every day will be the youngest I'll ever be. i agree with you when you said that we should be curious like a kid because doing it will make us "present" in the moment; not thinking of anything else and just living the moment.

After I deleted all of my other social medias, I started to notice that I not only used KZbin much more, the way I used it also changed. Quite often I'd interrupt an educational video with fastpaced music, because I had gotten bored. This prevents me from gaining the knowledge from these videos which I veru rarely watch till the end. So that's the first step I will be taking: watching longform content till the end, no distractions. Thank you for the amazing advice!

Then these things started to get boring and I couldn't focus on them for more than a little while. And I also started struggling with my studies. Now I can hardly focus on anything. @@harukahyuuga7895 Hey, I hope you’re having a great day :) I just want to tell you that God loves you so much, He created you for a purpose. 🫶 We have all sinned by breaking God’s laws. Sin is the reason we die and sin takes us to hell. But God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, who is One with God, to save us ✝️ Jesus was killed on a cross to pay for our sins in our place, He never sinned but died as a sacrifice for us 💕 He came back to life on the third day, defeating death! John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” If someone repents and puts their faith in Jesus, they will be saved 🩷 repent means to have a change of mind; we realize we have done evil against God which leads to turning away from sin and turning to Jesus 💕💕 when we place our faith in Jesus we trust that He died to pay for our sins and rose again, we trust in Him alone to save us and as the Lord of our lives. Sadly, those who are not in Jesus will not be saved, they will go to hell. But God offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life through Jesus 🫶 The Bible is the word of God; the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are the gospels of Jesus in the Bible. God bless you 💕💕

What I don’t want to miss out on is having a dull life while I’m still young. I have many years ahead of me, and I’ve been lazy, internet-addicted, overexposed, etc. But I want to enjoy life, not just get through it until i reach the part i wanted. Something I learned is that you often enjoy the journey more than the destination. I’ve been working out, spending time with my loved ones (or trying) and overall just aiming to be happy now. And for anyone who sees this, spread kindness, smile while you can, and dont allow addictions or etc to hold you back down.

There was no internet until I was like 12, we had to physically rent the movies we wanted to watch, if a movie or series was on TV we HAD to focus on it because there was no pause button or rewind. And well, no phones. And when we did get phones they were not smart, and could only text or call (and even that was limited due to the cost) and play snake (or make our own ringtones) It was slow, and we had so much time to be bored. I do wish I could have had some of the art and learning content that exists today, but I think it has crossed a line now to be overwhelming. You spend more time researching stuff than actually DOING, because there is so much information to sort trough. It's great that you are aware of this now, and remember that boredom breeds creativity!

@@ElMona I really love the last part of your comment because I've been feeling very uninspired lately and I would have never thought to make the connection between my sudden lack of creativity and no longer allowing myself to be bored for extended periods of time. I really hope I can reverse that this school year.

I realized that my attention span can get worse, when I don’t care about the task at hand enough. And one more reason is when I feel unwell or anxious about something. I do not want to say that we should always do things that entertain us, but rather being curious about what we are doing at the moment. And for it to happen we need to understand the “why?”, the core reason we want to do it. Mind is a powerful tool for us to achieve our goals, and we are masters of our own mind. I can’t now remember the exact words, but there was a quote: “Master your mind first, or else it will master you”. For me, attention comes fully from being in a “Flow” state. I stop caring about everything around when I zoom in to that state. Thank you 🙏🏻

I’ve been doing this more frequently and I hope it continues to benefit me. It’s comforting to hear that the little changes in my life are making a difference, like podcasts, practicing my instruments, and dance practice. I’ve been feeling really good about myself lately and been overthinking less. This video has literally opened my eyes. Firstly, the email and notifications tip at the beginning is actually so helpful, whenever I’m in a class or doing a course the thing generally on my mind is whether I’m going to receive emails or not and if I should read them. As a person who struggle a lot with overthinking and anxiety it can be really helpful when videos like these come up because I Belive the short attention span I’ve developed may be the route to literally all of my thinking problems. The no-phone zones rule is so disciplining for me, and the “I’ll do it later” idea is very accurate in making you focus entirely on the situation you’re dealing with. The biggest thing I found though was that point about reading books, as usually I read a couple chapter and then just skip to the last page. And I’m pretty this is one of the greatest causes of my awfuk attention span . Thank you so much for this ❤

This might be the 3rd or 4th video of Amy's that I've watched. There were 2 reasons why I clicked on this one: 1. The first video I watched had "I think I agree with this girl, AND ALSO can apply what she shared." 2. "Get your brain back." I really wish I can get back my brain abilities and habits that I had when I was in my teenage years. I watched this on 1x I didn't multitask. This is an impressive video in terms of making people engage voluntarily.

I was diagnosed with a few problems that, while I know do not define me, have caused my attention span to shorten. Along with that, I get this anxious feeling everytime I'm about to do something that requires full concentration. Social media has deteriorated my life to the point where it's the first thing I watch in the morning. I want to gain my life back, I want to have friends, go out, read more, exercise and study without these uncomfortable sensations. Hence, the tips I will apply are: No phone zones and consume to absorb, not to skim.

I really like the advice in this video. When I go on my phone during long car rides, it makes me feel lazy, it doesn’t make me feel any better about myself. Looking out the window or reading books during car rides makes me feel better. In fact, looking out the window, as said in the video, makes me think about life, and makes me have philosophical thoughts. One thing I’ve also started doing, that was said in the video is writing things down. Usually I go on my phone and write down things in my notes app, but as this coming school year is getting closer and closer, I think I will try to start writing things down. I have a small, spiral notebook that has a wood-like design on the front. I got it at a birthday party when I was younger, and I think I will start using that notebook instead of using my notes app. Using my notes app as a to-do list makes me feel enticed to go on TikTok, Snapchat, or KZbin. I’m not allowed to have Facebook, Twitter, etc. Although I have restrictions, I agree with those rules as it helps me not be as “chronically” online. I have asked my parents to set screen time limits for my social media: TikTok at 30 minutes, KZbin at 30 minutes as well, and Snapchat at 20 minutes. Although the only reason I use Snapchat is to maintain “Snapstreaks” with people and quickly look at peoples’ stories I know to keep up with them, I think this is harmful because sometimes I spend too much time on Snapchat, looking at peoples’ profiles, and I use it too long, so I set a time limit on it. I think Snapchat is kind of addictive so I may even ask for my parents to set a 15-minute limit on the application. TikTok, the most addicting of all. TikTok is the app that parents, schools, and elders hate. The most hated, unappreciated app. Said to lower attention spans. I think that is very right. If you give a child TikTok, they will start to use their time inefficiently, especially if you don’t set any limits on the content they view and take in. It is very hard to limit on content they see, and they can become very lazy and have “brainrot” humor. I suggest to not get on TikTok at a young age like I did, and that’s why I’ve started to set restrictions for myself. KZbin is less bad for you, although KZbin shorts is an entirely different story. KZbin shorts take TikTok, and makes it worse, with more “brainrot” content. I don’t know why KZbin ever developed KZbin shorts, other than to get money, because it is horrible for young children. Luckily, I never was an avid KZbin shorts user. KZbin itself, however, is not that bad, as long as you set limits and don’t watch crappy videos for hours on end. The only place I don’t have a KZbin screen time on is my computer. That is because I use youtube to help me better understand the subject matter I learn in school. As I’ve said, I suggest making limits on all your social media. I actually deleted KZbin off my phone and TikTok of my iPad to encourage less use of the apps. Snapchat I have on both my iPad and phone just in case I can’t find or use my phone and I need to continue my Snapstreaks. However, the screen time limits still work for both those devices. I still have the same restrictions across my devices, other than my laptop, but I only use my laptop for school. I’ve decided that I’m going to try to go to bed earlier, around 8pm, unless I’m up studying. However, when I’m studying, I will give my phone to my mom and not let her give it to me unless I’m done. Thank you for this incredible video, Amy!!

I was studying and watching some youtube videos about the test that defines my future, and this came across my fyp, I clicked on it and left so I can watch it after the videos finish, I’m on a break now and I watched this video fully, no 2x speed, no comments, not even using my split screen, it was hard. But I did it, and I’m so proud of myself. Because my attention span is so bad even when I text others, I go and watch a video and come back, and it annoys me and my friends. So I started to make a rule which is “if it’s not a situation your phone is involved, don’t involve it” which is one of the habits you mentioned, I don’t eat with my Ipad, even if I’m alone, I never go to the bathroom because I’m disgusted by the slightest of things so I don’t want my device to touch that, and when I go out, I only listen to music. And then look at the window and daydream. My poor attention span is a cause of ADHD. I was always a person with a bad attention span. But now I realise, just how much I miss out. I’ve been trying to watch very long videos on 1x lately. And I can actually watch more now, I increased my attention span. But it’s still poor, I have a whole lot more to go. The ones that hit me the hardest was when you said “No phone zones” and “Minimize multitasking” The no phones zone is really important because I have gotten into a really bad habit of just pulling my phone out, not to do anything, but to simply look like I’m doing something to avoid conversation. Or to just look less awkward. But in doing so it makes me feel more awkward and uncomfortable. Such as during lunch, I will pull it out and start doing doulingo to avoid conversation and to avoid noticing those who look at me. And it just makes me feel helpless Regarding the multitasking, in my family, multitasking was considered to be cool or atleast something that smart people did. I always multitasked in a ton of things. But as I got older I started more and more multitasking. But the more I did the more overwhelmed I got. People say that it will help you save time and make you smarter bc your doing multiple things at once, but my ability to focus is completely horrible. I can’t process what I hear in an audible, and often when people talk I have to ask them to repeat themselves because I couldn’t process what they said. I’m not quite sure the full reason why. Thank you for this video! I will do my best to follow these tips to the best of my ability. I truly want to better myself.

thank you for making this video and using a clean, down-to-earth approach without making harsh judgment (which is needed in a few cases) 💞 I've been meaning to tackle the issue of lower attention span because it's constantly eating my time away, leaving me with zero ways of improving my everyday routine without getting stuck in a endless loop. Honestly, the idea of achieving 8 goals to gain control is awesome and it makes it easier to follow through considering it minimize (in a way) the thought process and actually put the weight of the responsibility on our capacity of making decision in a conscious way. 1. Don't have dynamic tabs open 2. Minimize multitasking 3. No phone zones 4. Say "I'Il do it after [x]" 5. Automate work / school mode hours on phone 6. Be curious like a kid 7. Consume long-form content 8. Consume to absorb, not to skim. I want to achieve goal n° 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8. I'll start by the basics with n° 2 because I feel like being a university student puts me in a position where I have to manage multiple lessons and assignments and I fail because I focus on multiple things at once without prioritising anything in a meaningful way, then move on to a more wide, attentive approach towards life in general to be able to catch everything that happens without getting distracted so easily. I wish good luck everyone who's trying to fix their attention span, you can do it !! 🎀

I want to be present for every moment in my life, for the things that I used to enjoy, so I can get my joy and passion back. I do a lot of these already, but there's a few that I struggle with. I skim A LOT. I used to love reading, but recently I have been skimming books, and it's not enjoyable at all. I practically read just to finish the book now. I also get on my phone a lot instead of being aware/daydreaming. I used to daydream a lot, and now I rarely daydream, and it's affecting my creativity. When I do daydream now, it's not as in depth. These are the two habits I really want to focus on. Thank you for this video!

As a middle-school student, I'd watched this video to help fix my attention span since school was starting the following week and I wanted to prepare myself to study for long hours while being fully focused. Now, I realize my attention span is not just important when I study or do something long and unentertaining. Furthermore, it is necessary for me to truly live the way I have always desired to, have abundant life, and be present in the moment. During times when I want to cry, I can't because I am too spaced out to be fully in the moment. When I want to reflect deeply on something, I can never do so without distracting myself with things of little value to me. Until now, I hadn't realized that this isn't something I have to struggle with. It is something I created and can pull myself out of if I am diligent enough. Thank you so much for helping me realize this. I have been watching your videos for a while, and they have all been very beneficial to me. I am excited to listen to your podcast in the future!

For me, I would try to improve these of the following: 1. Minimise Multitasking 2. I will do it after [x] 3. Reduce short-form content 4. Only watch necessary or related topics (while taking a break or before studying)

This video has encouraged me to comment, I always usually stay hidden in the shadows, read other comments, and go about my day. I feel like I have become such a shell of myself. Media consumes every part of my life, but as you said, the screen is not the problem, I am. As I am the one in control. Its hard at times, as even though I really want to improve myself and my life, I also feel completely hopeless and overwhelmed by the mere thought of starting, I have tried time and time again, succeeded for a while then eventually, I go back into the same cycle of consumption. It seems to be some sort of coping mechanism for me, consuming media, escaping from reality. But my awareness is really starting to kick in heavily recently, it gets to a point that time goes by so fast that you realize there is a stockpile of things that you have always wanted to do but never did, as playing a game, binging a show or even endless scrolling would take priority at the time... these things feel so good in the moment, and help to relieve stress in the moment, but in the long run, they hurt the most. That realization that time is slipping away, you are ageing, you are not where or who you want to be, you are not making time for the people who matter the most, you are not reaching your full potential... that realization hits quite heavy. I will be 25 next year, and although this age seems and is still 'young'?, it feels quite surreal, it has really made me realize how fast time truly flies. The last thing I want is to get to 30 just to realize that i am still doing the same stuff, stuck in the same cycle, there is so much I want for myself, and I need to not allow fear to deter me from facing reality. Thank you for your video, it was very inspiring, I do hope I will get the courage to start making youtube videos myself too ❤

Hey Amy, I just executed this method "I'll do it after [x]". My problem: While working, I used to get distracted with my own thoughts or less important work which used to get into my mind. So, Instead of procrastinating my important work, this time, I procrastinated my thoughts by writing it down on blank paper. The moment I did so, my brain became empty and was able to focus on my current task efficiently. Thanx Amy for your valuable video. It's literally working. Love from India ❤You are osm. A request: Can you make a video on communication skill - How to speak clearly and articulately?

I have a hard time focusing. I’m in online school ,I do it at home from a computer and my phone is usually next to me and I’ll watch KZbin shorts and I’ll scroll for minutes instead of doing my homework. and I’ll skim through the lessons and when my grandma asked me what I learned today in science I didn’t know what she was talking about because I didn’t actually listen to the lessons. This video is helping me be a better person. I am still young and I have a lot of life ahead of me and I don’t want to fall into bad habits, thank you you’ve earned a new subscriber, I am so glad that you make these types of videos so I can work on being a better person ❤

I really needed this video little did I know. I noticed a few months ago how my attention span has been sooo short lately honestly ever since I was like 18 years old and I’m 22 now. It’s been so hard for me to focus which has also made it hard for me to focus on things that I ACTUALLY want to focus on. And then it begins to discourage me. So I thank you for this and also for making me feel “normal” for having a short attention span but also knowing that I am in control of it as well :)

thank you, amy. this is my first video i've ever seen by you and you caught me at the perfect time. i've noticed i've been scrolling more and more and more lately, and because of executive dysfunction with my adhd I really have just felt like a helpless pawn and completely felt like I lost control over my life. i also got my first job recently, about 3-4 months ago, so when I'm at home my main excuse is "ohh I'm so tired I'll of my laundry/clean my room/exercise/eat healthy/learn tomorrow, for now I'll just scroll" and it has been actually destroying me a little bit. i posted a video on here a few months ago, and since then I have tried to record 5 videos, multiple hours worth of content, and for one reason or another none of it has made it onto my channel, sometimes it is legitimate problems, but other times? i am just flat out lazy and procrastinated so much that I just deleted the video and gave up. while watching this video, I was crocheting, so I wasn't completely 100% focused in but maybe I can blame that on neurodiversity and using crochet to fidget while I do things LMAO, but while I was watching I finally set a screen time limit on my phone. i know it's a small step, but I'm finally going to take control of my life. on my payday this week I'm gonna get a gym membership, and I'm going to actually try and take care of myself and take back my life. you really truly have no idea the amazing things you're doing amy, you're changing hundreds of lives for the better, so you're basically changing the world

@@siberiam7186 Hey, I'm from India too. My best friend is also a commerce student while I opted for humanities. She goes to school while I don't. To overcome this, try planning regular meetups in advance, using a shared calendar to find overlapping free times and utilize virtual hangouts when meeting in person isn't feasible. Weekend outings and study sessions can also be scheduled to maximize time together. Communication and flexibility are key to maintaining strong friendships despite varying schedules.
