This is happening in a reality created by Wanda based on the tv shows she watched when she was young. Children rarely appeared in those 50’s/60’s sitcoms Wanda has recreated in the first 2 episodes. They’re now moving into the 70’s when children became a bigger part of sitcoms, so it’s natural for it to be when they introduce Wanda’s children.

Going back to the trailers, I've recognized callbacks to Ozzie & Harriet, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, and Family Ties. Note (in the trailers anyway) the saturated color palette of Westview compared to the "real world" scenes.

How is that accurate in even the slightest way? Wanda is obviously stuck in some kind of dreamscape or simulation, hence S.W.O.R.D trying to get her out. Whether it's by her own doing or a third party, the circumstance is the same and glaringly obvious
@ldkinbote

@@Nathan-oe8ut She's saying that it is of Wanda's own doing, but she doesn't consciously realize it 'cause maybe she's had a nervous breakdown (a.k.a. gone nuts). It's different if someone else is in control of it and is doing something TO her. If she's doing it herself and doesn't realize it, that suggests a break from reality. She's lost her twin brother and Vision TWICE. Once by her own hand and then quickly after by Thanos, so no one can really blame her for losing it.

It was common for shows at the time (50’s) to depict married couples in separate beds (TV networks didn’t want to even hint at sex). More interestingly, this episode draws its inspiration, themes and styles from 60’s sitcoms, which is when the norm began to change in shows like The Munsters and The Brady Bunch. So, Wanda bringing the beds together was a way to depict going from the 50’s to the 60’s. And then at the end of the episode, she gave the world colour, thus thrusting them into the 70’s.

i'm guessing Wanda is the one actually powering the altered-reality town of Westview, but i definitely think Agnes and her unseen (or possibly non-existent) husband Ralph have something to do with manipulating Wanda's mind to keep her grieving or intensify her grief. they have a hand in this and i think Agnes wants Wanda's children for some reason.

Good catch. This is a really weird multi-level show; it’s a note-perfect pastiche of old American sitcoms, and also a tragedy about a woman who’s failing to process extreme grief, but it’s also a horror story about a bunch of people who are trapped inside someone else’s psychotic breakdown. (Dealing with someone having a breakdown is hard enough when they don’t have godlike powers.) And if these other people in the town aren’t all figments of Wanda’s imagination, where ARE the children?

my theory: Wanda has made an alternate reality and kinda set it in a sitcom. she can control the reality (dinner scene, radio scene, "no" scene), but sometimes things are getting out of hand and something is happening itself (color change scene). someone, most likely Jimmy Woo, Darcy Lewis and Monica Rambeau, are trying to get Wanda out of her reality (radio scene), idk why, but maybe because it starts to affect our real world somehow. also, something is not right and there actually is a possibility to enter Wanda's world (the helicopter and the beekeeper). idk who the beekeper is, but he is probably evil, he discovered the way to enter her reality, but Jimmy, Monica and Darcy still haven't figured it out. idk if this theory is correct or even can happen, but these are just my first thoughts of what the hell is going on here.

I wonder if you'd be up for watching the MCU Netflix series! The Defenders universe easily fits within the larger MCU, since they're all New York based. Plus you'll meet some of the most compelling characters and villains, villains like Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Kilgrave, Billy Russo, Cottonmouth and Bushmaster from Luke Cage, and so on! Daredevil is considered one the best comic shows ever, and there's rumours that that version of Matt Murdock/Daredevil will appear in Spiderman 3 :) They definitely show off the other, darker side of the MCU, the everyday lives of heroes trying to get by. In a lot of ways, its even better than the main MCU!

After losing vision in Infinity War, Wanda's true power is starting too manifest itself subconsciously without her realizing it and in order to get over the grief of vision she created an illusion of him in his pocket reality that most likely she was responsible for making in the show. Apparently, there may be some outside influence keeping her in this sort of oblivious state to make sure that she doesn't snap out of it knowing who knows the extent of her powers and abilities who will most likely end up being the main villain of this season. Wanda can alter reality, after all. The hints and Easter eggs are also there in these first two episodes tying into the comic book inspirations for this show: House of M in 2005 by Brian Michael Bendis and 2016's The Visions by Tom king. Now, 7 more episodes too go.

Also, I’m guessing right along with you, but my theory is that the commercial represent trauma in her life. The toaster by stark industries was beeping like a bomb before it went off (Wanda & her brother said they had to hide under the bed for 2 days from a stark missile when they were kids. The one in this episode is a strucker watch & Baron Von strucker was the one who experimented on her and her brother and gave them their powers with Loki’s scepter.

I seem to remember a very fitting line from a famous Vampire in TV. "Is everyone here very stoned?" That is what I get off of everyone except Agnes... she is always there when Wanda sort of "snaps out of it" only to bring her right back into this, what can only be described as, delusion. And the mantra of "For the Children" is just creepy the way they all chant it... it's almost like they are in a trance...

Her "Stepford-wifeness" is a tongue in cheek reflection of late 50s/early 60s sitcoms. Leave it to Beaver, Ozzie & Harriet, Bewitched... ;) You should watch the, er, watch commercial again. Pay close attention. :) The screen at the end of episode 1, the helicopter, and the beekeeper's uniform all had a sword logo on them. I read the latter as interpretation of a drone (male bees), but someone else suggested it's someone in a hazmat suit that Wanda saw as a beekeeper, in denial. The voice is Agent Woo. They're jamming so many easter eggs and clues into each episode it's insane. I'm reminded of the old 60s show, The Prisoner.

They're on different beds at first because old TV shows were heavily censored regarding anything to do with sex, even to the point of shying away from showing a married couple in the same bed. If you look at some shows from that era you'll see that married couples have different beds, which is really strange to more modern audiences. I remember back in the early 80's when I was a little kid I actually asked my mom why Fred Flintstone and his wife Wilma had separate beds because it didn't make sense to me, and then I noticed that most old shows did the same thing since even back then those shows were already a couple of decades old. Since the "WandaVision" show-within-a-show transitions in this episode from the 50's to the 60's things relax a bit and their beds merge into the same bed and they even have a bit of innuendo. Last episode they were mostly basing the look and feel of the show on things like "I Love Lucy" and now in this one it's mostly based on stuff like "Bewitched."
@oxhine
@oxhine 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Mary! The sitcom being parodied was "Bewitched" and they even ape the animated intro! It was a black-and-white sitcom that was colorized partway through its run which is what happens in this transitional episode. Standards and Practices forbade a wedded couple from being depicted sharing the same bed. It was considered scandalous! Lucille Ball bucked the trend on "I Love Lucy" by pushing two double beds together but a single bed scenario wasn't shown until "The Brady Bunch"! Wanda and all of Westview's inhabitants are seemingly trapped in a reality bubble of Wanda's making or made to trap Wanda. All colorization, MCU references, radio contact and disturbances that aren't sitcom hijinks are external attempts to breach the bubble. Some people are SWORD agents like Monica Rambeau aka Geraldine. Some, like Agnes, work for another party. It's Wanda's world and they're all living in it. Notice the Mind Stone on the Cabinet of Mysteries. Notice the Baron Strucker watch with the Hydra logo.. I think the SWORD helicopter was trying to penetrate or disable the psychic bubble with ordnance which accounts for the loud THUMPS. Those were probably explosions or shockwaves. The bubble is an extension of Wanda so it retaliated by absorbing the chopper and rendering it harmless as a toy! I wonder what Agnes means that Dottie is the key to everything? Is it more than the social hierarchy of Westview? Why is her blood in color? Notice the purpose of the garden party and talent show is "FOR THE CHLDREN" and Wanda ends the episode pregnant with her twins! That David Schwimmer schlub look-a-like kills me! I loved drunk Vision! Elizabeth Olsen made a very fetching assistant. The beekeeper had a SWORD logo on his suit. The ORIGINAL Captain Marvel was a Kree soldier called Mar-Vell. Carol Danvers was his human ally before gaining powers herself. He famously died from a cancer that no science of Mr. Fantastic or magic of Doctor Strange could cure. His death has never been reversed and, like Uncle Ben, he's one of Marvel's sacred cows. So respected a figure was Mar-Vell that his nemesis Thanos, who happened to be dead at the time of Mar-Vell's passing, returned in spirit to escort the soul of his honored opponent into the beyond. Monica Rambeau was a New Orleans harbor cop who acquired her electromagnetic powers in an accident. She never knew Mar-Vell and adopted the Captain Marvel name without understanding its significance. She's a cool character who can travel at light speed and who led the Avengers in the '80's. She finally decided to change her name out of respect for Mar-Vell's legacy and has gone by different monikers including Photon. Nowadays, she's known as Spectrum. I like that name for her best.

Did you notice how Agnes put down her Handbag in relief after realizing Vision hangs on a rope? What was her plan?! Actually there are many interesting hints from Agnes in the show so far. tv shows in the 50s and early 60s had married couples sleeping in separate twin beds. this pays homage to that, esp. with the bringing of the beds together, at some point it changed in the world of TV. i recall bob newhart slept in a queen/king with his wife, suzanne pleshette. how he got someone that hot well never know. glamour and illusion are names of comics characters, but the word Glamour is a type of magic spell, cast to make one become entranced or in love. the field is called Glamoury. real witches talk about this, i used to sell a book on it. so thats a reference to her being a witch.

Even if the actors were married to each other. It was all about avoiding depicting anything remotely hinting at sex. The Production Code literally said that if both partners were in the same bed one of them had to have at least one foot on the floor. This was the rule for network TV shows and any movie that wanted a normal theatrical release (remember those?). America is a weird place.

The red is a throwback to the red when she uses her powers but its also a subtle throwback to the manipulation of reality. Obviously she didn't get her powers from the reality stone, but when she gives color to her reality, its eerily similar to when thanos uses the reality stone to manipulate reality. Its a cool symbolic and thematic thing.

On a lot of early sitcoms, married couples were weirdly required by the network to be shown as sleeping in separate beds (since the *actors* weren't married to each other, so showing them in the same bed was thought to be "suggestive"), even if the wife character kept miraculously giving birth. Over time this requirement was relaxed. Thus "I Love Lucy" (1951-57) was a separate-beds show, while "Bewitched" (1964-1972) was one of the first same-bed shows. Since the first episode of "Wandavision" is an homage to the look of "I Love Lucy," while the second episode of "Wandavision" is an homage to the look of "Bewitched," it makes sense that this episode features a transition from two beds to one. (Also, "Bewitched" began in black and white in its first season but later moved to colour, so that too is referenced in this episode.)

By the way, the plot of "WandaVision" is (very) loosely based on two different plot arcs from the comics (one focusing on Wanda, one focusing on Vision), but which aspects of which arc this mashup is going to draw on is unclear; so although those who've read the comics have a *slightly* better guess as to some of what's happening, we're almost as much in the dark as those who haven't read the comics.
