Wandering around Shinjuku, my favorite area in Tokyo

It's difficult to answer if you'll ask me what exactly I like about Shinjuku, but there's something about it that I like.
I thought I had the right to take a break in September since I released three videos in August(I did it!), but then I remembered that I had some footage that I shot last year and didn't upload for some reasons. I edited it and it looks nice, so I decided to upload it.
And I have another one. It is also Tokyo Vlog that I will upload next week. Adding it to the last one, it's going to be the third Tokyo Vlog in a row, but hope you enjoy.

I felt like I spent a day with a friend, in comfortable silence, just wandering around a city I’ve never been to. It’s a weird feeling but it gave me comfort. Thank you 🙏💕

I "walked" so many times in this part of Shinjuku on Google maps so I immediately recognised all these buildings and streets. Always nice to see these places in motion.

I don’t know if there is another place in this world that I love as much as I love Japan. Being there with you and looking down on Tokyo from the observatory point, my eyes filled suddenly with tears. The 7 years I lived in Japan (Sapporo & Tokyo), were the happiest years of my life. In Tokyo I lived 3 1/2 years, in Takanawa, near the Grand Prince Hotel. We had nearby an old, disaffected cemetery with a small buddhist temple. Every Saturday morning, the monotonous chanting of the priests and the ding of the bell made us feel peaceful and secure. And during the week, the silence was interrupted only by the crows. In every country the croak of the crows is different. The one sound that instantly makes me feel back « home » in Tokyo is the croak of the Japanese crows. I simply love that familiar sound! And of course, I’ve heard it now in your clip. Once it will be possible again due to the pandemic, I know where I will travel… Your posts are medicine to me. Warm regards from Sydney, still in lockdown, 3 months and counting. Thanks for sharing, please stay safe!

I dream of a day that I would be able to explore the different wards of Tokyo by foot. I love how the ambiance provided a calming sensation that it somewhat eases the exhaustion from all the walking. Bringing us to explore Shinjuku was a great way to start this Sunday morning, thank you.

I guess everyone watching your videos has a different reaction, bringing their own unique perspective to the perspective on Tokyo you curate for us. For me, all your videos bring back great memories. I lived in Tokyo for some time - Kamiyacho then Denenchofu. My son was young, and my daughter was born in Tokyo. The places you visit and film for us are as fresh in my mind as the days I used to spend there, walking for hours in the parks or exploring the streets and alleys with my children. Thank you for doing these!

Your blogs should perhaps be prescribed to people experiencing anxiety. They are beautifully shot, serene, lovely accompanying music, as well as offering some insights to Japanese life. I thoroughly enjoy your work. Thank you

im a 22 year old college student. Recently I’ve been losing so much motivation towards everything. My hobbies arent as enjoyable as they use to be. All of my friends are moving ahead of me at such a higher pace in life. I feel like I’m not really going anywhere or know what the hell I’m doing… I graduate next semester but don’t have a single clue with what I can do with a biology degree. I come from a stereotypical asian family that constantly pushes success and wealth as the goal to succeed in life. But watching your videos opened my eyes. I thought that being successful in life meant that I had to become wealthy, be a doctor, etc. Boy was I wrong.. This may be some sort of reach but watching your videos taught me otherwise. Life has much more meaning than chasing that "ideal" wealthy life. I dont know how to explain it but the solitude in your videos is what I strive for now rather than the principles of what a "great" life should be. Thank you so much for helping me find myself.

The road on the north side of the park is the Koshukaido, one of the main roads during the Edo period. Hiroshige made an ukiyoe print in one of his "100 Views of Edo" of the Tama aqueduct which provided water for the capital. It has been recreated by a little stream since the original aqueduct is either underground or destroyed, though you can see it flowing in west Tokyo, most easily accessible in Mitaka. There's another spot that Hiroshige made a print of, just beyond @ 8:51with, the red spider lilies 彼岸花 also known as the autumn equinox flower--it's quite amazing that this flower always blooms at the same time every year. The print is of Kumano Shrine, just down the hill, and a large pond. The pond is gone, but you can still see the indentation where the pond used to be if you look at the parking area of the Knot Hotel. It was at least 5 meters deep. BTW More Than Bakery in the hotel makes excellent "pain rustique" which is as good as anything in France! I sometimes go there just to get this bread. I love trying to find hidden rivers in Tokyo, as well as natural springs. There are quite a few of them!

My husband and I used to go to Japan every year before the pandemic and in Tokyo one of our favourite places to stay was in Shinjuku (and the Gracery Hotel). You're right - it's hard to explain the attraction to Shinjuku but there really is something familiar and comforting about the place. Thank you for the lovely video. Looking forward to be back there soon.

Personally, even though I'm usually an introvert but I do enjoy watching the world go by from a quiet place. I sometimes do this by visiting a popular part of town and find a nice quiet spot to watch people go by. It helps me recharge and take my mind of things rather than being alone at home with my troubling thoughts from the week.
