Cricket is easy: You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game

“X” isn’t a new thing that’s come with the digital age. It’s always been done - for things such as writing birthday or Christmas cards. It is a kiss. So it’s purely informal. A straight guy would never send another man an “X”. Nor would they ever send one to any other person - other than their girlfriend, wife or their very young children. It would be inappropriate. However women do send it to each other. And usually to close male friends. However you have to be careful - because as an adult - sending it to another adult can be seen as quite an intimate sign.

The cracker has a toy(lots of times mini versions of things like a mini spyglass), joke and paper crown. When pulling the cracker it splits into 2 halves whoever has the biggest half get the stuff inside. Then we have the main meal consisting of Yorkshire puds, LOTS OF roasties, turkey, pigs in blankets, roast veg ect and then we have dessert (usually a choice of 2 : roulade and a Xmas pudding). By this time it is usually the 3pm for the queen's speech and after that we have a cheese board with gammon, grapes, crackers, crisps and dips. And to finish it all of an after eight mint.

You seem to forget that meats like salami are dry cured anyway. They’re just hung up to dry out and there is very little moisture left in them to facilitate bacterial development. A refrigerator only inhibits bacterial growth, but a few hours isn’t going to make a lot of difference. My grandmother told me how, on the mill she grew up in, they’d slaughter a pig for the winter, and would go to the larder to cut off what they needed for dinner. If a rat had got to it and nibbled at some, they just trimmed that bit off. I’m still the same with cheese; if it gets some mound on it, just trim it off, it’s fine underneath.
@thevonya39774 жыл бұрын
Some people forget that cheese itself is the result of REALLY gone-off milk solidifying and LETTING the bacteria grow in a specific way. Leaving cheese out will only dry it out or mature it and ANY green mold growth would only grow on the surface, easily chopped out and ignored.
@richardedgar96704 жыл бұрын
The Vonya exactly! I’ve had this battle with my dear missus where if something goes out of date, it goes in the bin. After seven years I have finally got it through to her that something doesn’t magically become rotten after a particular date. Use your noggin. My favourite is Parmesan or Grana Padano, which are aged for three years, but when you buy them it tells to consume within three days. My steak last night had been aged for four weeks, but apparently if I hadn’t eaten it by today ( bearing in mind I planned to cook it), it would have been inedible. We eat a lot of gone off stuff as humans, we just don’t think about it much.

Salami, Chorizo, Cured meat of ANY kind can be found hanging by strings from the ceilings all over Europe. The key is in the word 'cured' or even 'smoked'. Before refrigeration many peoples used this method to preserve meat. As for Steaks, I would keep them in the fridge (under refrigeration) but I prefer to cook them when the outside is no longer Bright Red, or indeed Red at all. Aged Meat is a far better flavour. Of course you don't do this with Chicken unless you want to die. You shouldn’t refrigerate cooked pastry - refrigeration toughens the pastry and ruins the texture. You have to remember that meat pies are cooked and therefore sterile inside, so should be ok for a few hours as long as they are kept free from contamination. But most meat pies should be eaten same day anyway. Traditional Pork pies can be kept successfully for 2-3 days because of the herbs and spices that go into them. Electricity in the UK! (For your info and not directly tagged to this vlog). Plug sockets(outlets) have three holes - the bottom two are where the 'electric' is. The top one is the Earth connection - a safety connection in case of a fault. If you look at a socket straight on, you'll see the bottom two holes are shielded by a plastic shutter (so children, or stupid adults can't poke anything into the live electric parts). The plug itself has three pins. The top pin is longer. As the top pin goes into the socket it raises the protective shutter so the bottom two pins can contact the live electricity as they go in. The bottom pins are half covered in, usually, black insulation so a really stupid person won't touch any live parts if the plug is only half in or out of the socket. Additionally, the plug has an internal replaceable fuse, rated say 3amps for a table lamp, or 13amps for a toaster, as protection from faulty wiring, power surge or overloading. Who would use a system with open electrical outlets you can poke a screwdriver in, and an un-fused un-earthed plug?? Madness!! Now, the bathroom issue! NO sockets in bathrooms, so idiots can't plug anything connected to the mains electricity in the room with a huge tub of water in it! Soaking in the bath - toast in the toaster - knock toaster into bath - kill yourself! Likewise, light switches have to either be outside the room near the door, or operated by a switch on the ceiling with a long cord - so your sopping wet hands on getting out of the bath won't deluge the light switch with water and kill you! Your vlogs are really interesting, keep up the good work!

It is primarily done from girls/women texting people they are friendly to as a sort of text-ender, more x means more friendliness. When different kind of salts are added to meat to preserve it, it doesn't need to be stored in the fridge. The meat wil progressively cure and dry up. The only reason to keep it in the fridge is to stop the drying and keep the level where you like it. But that's only for cured meat. For regular cooked dish with meat, american rules are pretty good. Maybe we tend to go a little bit further than you but it's overall the same concensus.

The meats that you're on about that get left on the side are either cured meats like salami or heavily salted like in a pork pie (The jelly helps here too). Salt cured meats like pork are fine to be left out due to the salt reducing the moisture content and protecting it from bacteria and the same goes for dry cured meats that have been hung out to dry for months and had their mosture content massively reduced. You won't see meats that aren't cured left out for long and even then, a couple of hours isn't going to make a massive difference in terms of bacterial growth as it will still all be safe to eat.

Leaving meat out of the fridge. OK Large cuts of things like beef and game are left to age at a cool room temperature for weeks. It's what gives it flavour. The outside may dry out and, even, get a little mould on it but it doesn't affect the inside. Some meats, like bacon and ham - the ones that are done properly, not just by adding flavoured chemicals, are cured. It is the traditional way to preserve meat from the days before refrigeration. Go to a Spanish or Italian bar and see hand that are hung from the ceiling for months before eating. Pies, like pork pies, for example, are traditionally cooked in a hot water pastry that lasts a long time. During cooking, any bacteria in the meat is killed. The pie is then filled with a jelly that makes an airtight seal around the meat. They can be left unrefrigerated for a couple of days for the smaller ones, but much longer for the big ones. Other types of pies like, for example, steak and kidney, have a pastry that is less robust, but, again, the meat will have been cooked and any bacteria inside will have been destroyed. In bakeries they will be displayed unrefrigerated, but you will be expected to eat them on the day they were made or the following day at the latest. Cheese. Processed cheese goes off quickly in it's not kept in a fridge. But think about what traditional cheese is and how it's made. Essentially it's milk that's gone bad. That's why it smells. The bacteriaand mould in traditional cheeses are edible. They colonise the cheese and prevent harmful bacteria penetrating the block of cheese. A decent Stilton, for example, will have been aged, unrefrigerated for a good couple of months before it even reaches the store. Top tip with cheese. If an unwanted mould begins to bloom on the outside, just cut the outside off the block. The inside will be fine. In the UK, we tend to keep our fresh food shops a little cooler than in the USA. Also, we rarely have very hot weather, so refrigeration is not always essential. Don't get me started on eggs....! xx

Cricket. Explained as a modification of baseball. First, the pitcher's mound and the plate become two ends of the 'pitch', each of them is called the 'crease';'the ball is 'bowled' rather than 'pitched' and each bowl of the ball is called a 'ball'; every six balls the players move so that crease that was mound and the crease that was the plate are reversed. The batters run from crease to crease instead of round a square. One big difference is that there are two batters (batsmen) on the field at the same time. On each crease are three posts sticking out of the ground about thigh-high - the 'wicket'; on top between posts one and two, and two and three are balanced a couple of small wood cylinders called the bails. Anything that requires a player to hit the wicket requires him to hit it hard enough to knock at least one of the bails off (like a high-jump bar being knocked off the posts). Getting the batter off the field can be achieved in a number of ways: the pitcher can hit the wicket with his pitch; catches are an 'out' just like in baseball; hitting the wicket with the ball while the batters are running between the creases is out in the same way as the ball being caught by a man on base in baseball - this is called being 'run out'; there is also 'LBW', or 'leg before wicket', which occurs after the bowl has struck the batsman's leg and involves the umpire determining whether the ball, if it had not struck the leg, would have hit the wicket. In other words, batsman can't stick their leg in the way to stop the ball hitting the wicket - they have to use the bat. Electronic systems are now used to determine whether the umpire was right if one of the teams challenges the decision (there are only a limited number of challenges, like line challenges in tennis.) Scoring: the two batsmen running from crease to crease is one run; they can keep doing this and scoring one run each time, until they decide that the danger of being run out requires them to stay in the crease they are at. If the ball crosses the boundary line after being hit by the batter, that's 4 runs; if it crosses the boundary line before touching the ground that's six runs. A team is eleven people; once ten of the eleven have been ruled 'out' then that 'innings' is over; the players leave the pitch and swap roles just like in baseball. There are strict rules to prevent the bowler from 'throwing' the ball: the bowling arm must be straight - no cocking the elbow - and this is why bowling is technically more difficult than pitching, although good pitching requires just as much skill and craft as good bowling. The bowlers can run up to the crease to deliver the bowl, but they don't have to. Some bowlers rely more on the speed of the ball, others use techniques to move the ball through the air or off the ground - 99.9% of bowls involve one bounce of the ball between the creases. That's a lot of text but maybe some Americans might find it useful.

They, like Cornish/Devonshire pasties, have the meat fully enclosed after being cooked. When they are cooked all the bacteria etc is killed. The pastry around the outside then prevents immediate access to the meat, which is what will go off quickest, therefore allowing it to remain out of a fridge. Also the meat in those pies have a fairly high amount of salt in them which again lengthens the amount of time before the microbe level makes them unsafe to eat. With cured meat... it is cured it is made by being left out of the fridge and mixed with salt and spices. You'll find it left out in their countries of origin. With the cheese it isn't about the taste for most people as far as I know (I'd never heard of this before this video but it makes sense) It's just another food that can be left out for a fairly long time, due to moisture levels and salt content. Farmers used to go out to the fields to work with a lump of cheese as part of their lunch, as standard, regardless of the weather.

Well I have played Cricket school but not enough to know the rules very well but the basics is. 🏏 the thrower throws the ball trying to hit the stumps. The batter has to hit the ball and then run to the other stump where the thrower is and run back. Which equals 1 point. If you only get to the thrower it’s half a point. Normally you have one person at each stump running back and forth until the ball is caught by a fielder, you get stumped which is where the thrower or the person behind the stumps behind the batter, gets the ball and touches it against the stump, or when the thrower knocks over the stumps behind the batter.

The cheese thing. Especially hard cheeses like Red Leicester. Ideally, this needs to 'sweat' before eating to get the full flavour of the cheese.
@mandolinic4 жыл бұрын
Cricket for beginners: There are two "wickets" placed 22 yards apart. A wicket is three short wooden poles ("stumps") of a particular size, and two short "bails" across the top. The bails are balanced so that if any of the stumps are disturbed, at least one bail falls off. The area in front of each wicket is called the "crease". The basic principle of the game: In front of each of the two wickets there is a member of the batting team. Each batter stands in the crease before the wicket. The bowler takes a run-up and throws the ball (using a straight arm action) from one wicket towards the other wicket. The batter tries to defend the wicket by hitting the ball with the bat. If the ball goes past the batter and hits the wicket, then the batter is out and must leave the field. If the batter strikes the ball, but it is caught by a member of the fielding team before hitting the ground, then the batter is also out. But if the batter can hit the ball so it evades the fielders then the two batters can run across over to the opposite wickets and score one run. Each batter has now changed to the opposite wicket, so that the other batter will receive the next ball. If time permits, they can cross over several times, scoring a run each time; however, a batter can be out if the fielding team are able to hit either wicket with the ball while the batters are running between wickets. If the batter hits the ball so that it crosses the boundary of the field without touching the ground, 6 runs are scored; this is reduced to 4 runs if the ball touches the ground first. Play is split into "overs", where an over is 6 balls bowled by the same bowler from one wicket. After each "over", a different bowler must bowl 6 balls from the opposite wicket. This means that play alternates between the two wickets, changing over every 6 balls. The captain of the bowling team decides who will bowl the next over, but no bowler can bowl two consecutive overs. Each side has eleven players, and when ten players of the batting side have all been out, then their turn at bat ends, and either the game ends, or the other side takes their turn to bat. However, the batting side's captain can decide to end his/her team's turn at bat early and allow the other team in to bat. This is called "declaring". And that's basically it. There are a few more complications and rules which have been added over the years, but that's the fundamental idea behind cricket.

Cricket: Two people defend the bails (the cross piece on top of 3 sticks), one at each end. The bowler attempts to hit the bails off by either directly hitting the bail or the 3 stumps which support the bails. The batter, defends the bails by attempting to hit the ball away. Think of Baseball but with only 2 bases!. Hitters can be caught out by fielders catching the ball without it hitting the ground. Run out by not being in the crease in front of the bails (like reaching a base) but the catchers are either the bowler at the bowling end or the wicket keeper at the defending end (think of the batter in baseball only running between the bowlers and the home base)

Cooked, cured meats can safely be left out for a couple of hours and you get more from the flavour if they are not straight out of the fridge.

X for a kiss pre-dates all the text stuff. I remember my mum putting Xs in Xmas and birthday cards and this was decades before mobile phones even existed. This is a very, very old habit.

Probably late to the party but there is massive etiquette to the ‘x’ on messages. You use one x for casual friends, distant family, even friendly acquaintances (on Facebook posts about light hearted topics). They are never used formally or in business texts. You use two ‘x’s for family and friends Three or more are for your most beloved and close people. Partners, best friends, close family. If one of those people has annoyed or upset you, you reduce the number of x’s there to let them know you are mad

Cheese from the fridge is better but no one is going to keep putting it back at a party. Meat isn't left out very long, certainly not hours. The paper hats are from the 3 kings that visited Jesus (obviously).

Ew no you serve cheese at room temperature. You have to let it come to. Have you never served a cheese board? I’m British

In the UK putting an x at the end of a message is a term of endearment and is used by males and females and isn't just a kiss. Males who are best friends often use it to each other although they are straight. It's just a sign of close friendship

The bowler bowls the ball to the team member standing in front of the wicket. If the chap doesn't hit the ball, and the ball hits the wicket it dislodges the bails. Villages play cricket, counties play cricket, as in Kent versus Sussex. Also countries play cricket as in India versus England.

MOST BASIC CRICKET EXPLANATION. (This is how we played in P.E. at school) The bowler tries to hit the stumps with the ball, the batter defends the stumps by hitting the ball with the bat, the fielders try to catch the ball after it's been hit (if they catch it the batter is out and the next batter takes over). After one team is out of batters the teams switch side and the fielders become the batters and the batters become the fielders
Cured meats are prepared differently in Europe than in the USA the salt causes osmosis so the bacteria can't grow and the meat can stay out at around 15oC. Eggs are also prepared differently in the USA you wash them so have to refrigerate them for purchase. In the UK I'm sure you noticed we don't xx

I have never heard of leaving cheese and meats out of the fridge I would never do that. Although savoury meat pies could be okay because I think they are full of preservatives. As to cricket its easy! The three things are called stumps and the two bits of wood on top of the stumps are called bails. Although fielding positions like silly point, leg gully and deep backward still confuse me. It took me longer to figure out the rules of American Football and even then I only got the basics. Christmas crackers are a tradition and is a must to have at your Christmas meal and they're always paper crowns, tacky little prizes and corny jokes in them. Try poached eggs on toast with tomato sauce. Eurovision.......uugghhhhh!! Its a Marmite program as it can be so political. The best thing about it is that you can have Eurovision parties and by the end of the night you can be so plastered you don't care anymore. Although the commentator who is Graham Norton at the moment is so funny.

Hi Andy! We only saw the meats sitting out for a long time if they were pies or cured meats, so maybe they do have special preservatives that cause them to last longer on the counter. We'll give cricket another go! If we're able to understand American Football, then we'll be able to figure out the stumps and bails eventually :D And Christmas crackers seem like such a fun tradition! We're definitely do them this winter :)

@@WanderingRavens I would suggest trying T20 or 1 day cricket 1st. They are faster paced and may get you hooked easier than the 5 day (Test Cricket) format.

Do not try poached eggs on toast with tomato sauce. Try it with HP (brown) sauce instead.

@@WanderingRavens Ah, if you mean pies or cured meats in a butchers shop or similar, yes they are often on view but that cabinet is often chilled and the products sold within a short time.

This is my understanding of cricket: You've got the big field and inside that there's a dry rectangle with two sets of wickets (three long sticks) which are at either end. The bowler stands at one end of the weird dry rectangle and throws the ball at the batsman opposite him to try and hit the wicket behind him. If the ball knocks over the wicket and the bales (small cylinders on top of the wicket) fall off then the batsman's out (I think). If the batsman manages to hit the ball he, along with the other batsman, runs to opposite sides of the rectangle (edit: it's called the pitch) to score runs until the ball comes back to the bowler. If the batsman has his leg in front of the wicket and the ball hits his leg it's called "Leg before wicket" and he's out (the ball would have hit the wicket if his leg wasn't there) Also if it goes outside the boundary it's an automatic 6 runs. That's about the limit of my knowledge.

I'm from the USA, and I knew a little about cricket. I didn't know all the terms I'm about to use, but I had the general idea about the bowler throwing the ball at the wicket, and the batsman trying to hit the ball away and run down the pitch and back, and I assumed every time he returned to his own spot he got a point of some kind (or does he also get a point for reaching the opposite side?). I also had the general idea that if the wicket got hit, the batsman would swap with somebody else. Questions I still have after reading your description: 1. When does the bowler switch? Is it a single "out"? 2. Is it a single bowler that throws at each batsman, or does each team have their own bowler? 3. At what point is the game considered ended? For example, after the bale has been knocked down 4 times, or after the batsman has been out twice? 3. Does something different happen if the ball hits the wicket but does NOT knock anything over (either not thrown hard enough or glances off)? What if it knocks the bale down but doesn't knock the wickets over? What if it completely misses the wickets? 5. What if the ball hits the batsman other than what you mentioned, for example in the arm or chest?
