The thing about the fanservice in this is that we are more or less seeing it from Gojo‘s perspective. Right now he’s way too aware of her features and focuses on them a lot when he’s looking at her but the more they get to know each other and the longer this goes the less he focuses on that and it gets noticeably less and less. I’m caught up with the manga and at the point where we are now it appears so little you basically don’t even notice any of it anymore

I was honestly gonna skip the series entirely, but for some reason decided to check some reviews of the manga first, some of which mentioned the relationship between the characters. If it wasn't for that part, and it was just ecchi alone, I'd probably have dropped it pretty quickly instead of watching the entire thing.

Thing is, it's probably the most ecchi episode of them all (thus far) simply because the measuring is most of the episode, but it is still just teenage drama. I knew from episode 1 Marin is not one to be totally cluesless while simultaneously constantly overstepping lines. She just refuses "ecchi" to stand in her way. That's why she plants her feet on Gojo and straight up tells him "Dude, it's okay. Just ignore the incessant voices in your head and do it." i can respect such writing. They are going to be balancing each other out more and more throughout the show, probably.

Good, usually mangakas put some heavy fanservice at the beginning to draw in readers with eye candy, but if this also wards off people who get mad at the sight of a single boob or ass shot in an anime, even better.

And no shame in that. If it aint for you it aint for you. The show won't be enjoyable if you'll just be as oversensitive as gojo with all the tits and ass they show. Also, not to really call them out since I knew that they always had fun cracking jokes about these kinds of ecchi shit in anime, but I find people who always zero in and feel uncomfortable with these parts of shows are just as unbearable as degenerates and creeps who actively seek these shots out and salivate over them. It's part of the show, albeit some don't necessarily need to be, but most are kinda important to show the characters' perspective. At this point you'd think with the amount of naked men and women in paintings and sculptures artists made throughout history that we'll be at least used to seeing the human anatomy, but I guess not.

The thing about the ecchi in My Dress Up Darling is that it makes sense for it to happen. This entire episode was just Gojo taking Marin’s measurements. If Gojo was a professional tailor, none of the uneasiness and horniness would be present. But he’s not a professional and for him, this is an important step towards overcoming his anxiety in situations like this.

Eh. The show has a 3:1 success ratio about how much the ecchi makes sense. This was a scene where the fanservice makes a lot of sense because Gojo is probably ogling Marin, as much as he's trying not to. But there are definitely some scenes later on that are 100% just for the audience and not because of Gojo, because he's not present at the moment, or he isn't flustered.

There's a valid reason Marin is so comfortable and confident with things like stripping-down, getting measurements, etc. and is so blasé about how she shows her body. I'll spoil it under the cut. You have been warned, SPOILERS DOWN BELOW: Marin's a model. She models clothes. Does commercials and ads. That's it. She's used to it by now and kind of, I guess you could say dense, or even jaded about it. The point is she doesn't really care about like how people see her or ogle her. The opening kind of spoils that part about her; the whole photo-shoot and the little montage with the not-cosplay outfits. But she never mentions it for a while; she says she has a job, but doesn't clarify to Gojo what it is at first.

I finished episode 12 today, there are still a few more "fan service" moments, but it does a great job between Kitigawa and Goju with their relationship buildup. He gains (slowly) more confidence in himself, and Kitigawa does her thing enjoying life and spending time with Goju.
