Does your van have a small button on the side of your shifter knob? If so that's the O/D on off button. If the overdrive is ON there will be an O/D light displayed on the dash somewhere.

It’s the crank shaft position sensor it’s under the van by the driveshaft towards the cab, it’s like $20. Scan your ODB2 you’ll see a CPK P0339 error most likely.

Thank you. I've had lots of transmission blow outs, always double. I'm (maybe) buying a 2013 TC to camperize and want to be prepared. The overdrive thing just seems to make sense. Listen to the car.

I agree with the shift solenoid issue. I bought a 2013 a couple months ago that had the transmission replaced by Ford at 50000 miles, has 67000 now. It just threw a code and exhibited the same issue you are having with yours. It's likely that Ford used the old solenoids when they replaced the transmission. This is what I suspect with the one I bought. Im going to replace the A,B solenoid. This should improve the shifting. Because of the known issues with the transmission I plan on installing a drain plug into the transmission pan with a new filter and doing a drain and fill of synthetic fluid every 10k miles to keep the transmission in good shape. Thank you for your videos. I'm still designing my build. I hope to post videos of the process in the future.

Very informative comment, thank you for the information. I have a feeling you are spot on with your thoughts. I am keeping my fingers crossed and anxious to hear what the shop has to say. I'll be taking it in on Monday so we'll see what they find. Looking forward to your build if you get to the point of posting your videos. Take care:)

You probably know this by now, but I have a 2018 TC with the original transmission and I keep getting recall notices from Ford about a bushing in the tranny shift mechanism that will cause the problem you described of going into neutral by itself or shifting into drive, and other problems. I personally have never had that problem so I haven't gotten it serviced. I have always had shifting problems when it's cold out and occasionally sever shifting problems when it's cold out, but I've managed to ignore that also.

Ive had a 2013 transit connect for 3 years now. It has 182000 miles and runs good. Only problem is, it needs the motor mounts replaced. I use it as a company van. I didnt know these had transmission problems.

Spy, my connect is a 2010. I would think that Ford has changed many things over the 13 year difference. Maybe ask the dealership what they have done differently on the 2023 model in comparison to some of the issues they had with the 2010 model. It would be interesting to hear what they have to say.

@@dimmelis21 wow, you stole my comment. I have a 2021 XL and the transmission blew at 80,000 miles. when I had my transit I had to replace a couple shift solenoids for a similar sounding issue. I think the bad reputation of the transmission is partially from hired hands driving overloaded vans. safe travels.

Good to know about your experience with the shift solenoids. I'm hoping that's my problem and it's covered under the warranty. I agree with you on the bad reputation and hired hands. These vans are really abused by a lot of company employees out there. Thanks for your input.

@SensatiousHiatus4 жыл бұрын
What years have the bad transmissions?
@WannaBFree4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's any specific years. I also don't think it's necessarily a case of bad transmissions. My belief is that it is a case of what amount of weight is hauled and how it is hauled over the life if the transmission. Most of these cargo vans are used for commercial purposes and driven by employees. I think the vans are asked to do more than they were designed to do. That is why the "Transit Connect" got a bad reputation of having bad transmissions. This is all my personal opinion of course.

I have a 2018 Transit Connect. There is a recall on the shift cable (bushing). The shifter can show it's in park, but it's not. I would also assume that it can show it's in gear but it isn't. I got a bushing on that cable replaced for free. I would start with that. In addition, perhaps the mechanic who did the work was not that slick. Just because a guy wears a Ford shirt, it doesn't make him an expert mechanic.

So I watched your original video and the 2010 transit had transmission problems. When I watched your original video of my thought was it’s probably not a good idea to put a transmission in it because the failure mode is the same. It’s simply a defective transmission so the new one is eventually going to have the exact same problem.

That's possible but the original transmission went over 100K so if I get at least 100K out of the replacement it will have been worth it to me.

Where on the shifter is the button for overdrive? I have a 2013 and I have never noticed a button on it. I know they are notorious for transmission problems so I'd like to avoid trouble if I can.....lol
@WannaBFree5 жыл бұрын
I'm learning that most people don't know about the O/D button so you are not alone. The button is on the driver side of the shifter stick just below the handle. It's usually in a position so you can hit it with your right thumb with your hand on the shifter. Once you disengage the overdrive you should have a light on the instrument panel indicating "overdrive off". It might look like this "O/D OFF".

We own a fleet of 20- (2017's to 2021) Ford Transit Connects. We have had had 4 transmission complete failures. All but one just barely over the 60K mile warranty which Ford will not do any type of Good Will past the warranty. These Van's have garbage transmissions in my experience. Cost for a new replacement is $6K - There is a reason Ford only warrants these out to 60K miles. They know these are going to fail often. I will never buy another Ford.

@@WannaBFreeMy understanding is it's the difference between whether the vehicle used constantly in stop and go (under 30kph 25mph) inner city and traffic jams vs open highway. They are loaded with package, air conditioning full blast and stuck in traffic day in day out and "no $ to get transmission service yearly" so it's a consumable like a tire or a brake part. Open highway it racks up 10,000km quickly each few weeks and always running cool because of airflow. Transmission like new 8 years later. 99.5% of used vans are ex inner city fleet stuff where it's the typical "underpaid, overworked angry guy" and what does he take his frustration out on. I've heard the story, bought the vehicle, now understand the full picture. Boil it down to heat and aggression
