Where i live this would work perfect, super strong and safe, who would use balloon frameing today? We just hsd a neighbors house catch fire and the balloon frame made it hard to put out. We get a bunch of wind,this looks super strong,nothing wrong with overkill in the right place,excellent work sir

We always prebuilt everything on the ground and used the tele-boom to set it.

Haha. Man everyone’s an expert in the comments eh?!? I’ve got 25 years in the game and think this is a fine way to build the gable overhang. Solid and won’t deflect…win, win.

Lazer works great unless the top plate is bowed. I prefer using math . Numbers don't lie, you less you put the wrong numbers in of course. And like previous comment, Ballon frame with nails. OP must be a steel stud framer using screws.

Looks odd having your ridge exposed at the end under your soffit . We always use the same size rafters for the fascia board and notch the 2x4s in on flat to create the over hang this hides the ridge into your soffit

Sure is a lot of overkill!!! Don't take half as long to notch where the lookouts go!!! Then your false rafter!!! I would have loved to see these young carpenters work when I started!! No nails guns or battery operated drills!!! We hand drove every nail then went home eat supper ved livestock and went to bed!!! They don't know how lucky they have it!!!

Notched gable studs save hours here and lose nothing in strength. With an overhang this small a simple ladder definitely suffices and takes virtually no time , any bigger and you use notched lookouts . The guy did this well but it took all day . Time is of the essence. Don’t need to build to land a Chinook helicopter on the roof if that’s not what you going to do .

This kind of looks like it was educated in a trade program and not real life. There’s a lot of things I would do differently.

Good clean framing but I think the wall should have been balloon framed from the floor to the underside of the rafter so you don't create a pivot point

There is no strength in screws nails is necessary to put that together only
@puttervids4729 күн бұрын
More strength in screws. Ever seen one pull out ? 😂. Neither have I.

I’m glad you think so

So you've never torn apart something that is screwed and something that is nailed. Screws are 10 times stronger than nails.

Of all the years that I've been framing houses, that's the most idiotic way of doing a gable wall

After 43 years as a Carpenter, and 20 as a General Contractor, I agree with you 100%! Maybe when this Kid gets more years under his Belt, he might realize the Old tried and true method…KISS! 🇺🇸🦁🏴⚔️
