I've learned so much from this video! Thanks for taking the time to post it. I've subscribed and plan to binge wath the rest of your videos this evening. Thanks again...I'm sure many citrus trees will be much nicer looking as a result. At least, mine will! 😆

I just foliar feed with kelp extract to help those leaves along. Will you use those good cuttings to propagate more trees?
@madisoncitrusnursery5 ай бұрын
Almost all of our trees are grafted and those are grafted using budwood cut from our certified increase trees of each variety. These cuttings that are pruned off the trees we sell on our website and are not used for anything.

@@madisoncitrusnursery Thanks for the info. I want to experiment with notching dormant nodes but this pruning method will be useful as well.

I need you to show me a leaf axil without a growth ring and with a growth ring so I can tell the difference. Thanks.

I will send you a couple photos later today that will clearly show the difference.

I had the same question. Can you post the two pictures to this video, or on your website? Also a suggestion for a future video would be how to get potted citrus ready for winter, since most of us can't plant citrus in ground. Great videos and very helpful.

Thank you for chiming in as well John, I will make a blog tonight that shows both pruning videos and a couple close ups of the terminal bud growth ring so its easier to see. I will also talk to Hershell about some new videos. We appreciate you.

We just posted a new video talking about the tools and they are from AM Leonard. Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Thank you. What's the best time to prune, and not cut off all the flowers and fruits?
@madisoncitrusnursery5 ай бұрын
We prune in the grove just after the last fruit is picked and the last frost has happened. That should get you around losing a lot of fruit and before the flowers. Some varieties that are more ever bearing you may just need to weigh the benefits vs fruit you may be losing.

I have some massive container trees that I never pruned for shape just for insect damage. Would leaving them unpruned hurt anything but the looks of the tree?
@madisoncitrusnursery4 ай бұрын
Other than pruning for shape or perhaps a more dense structure to maximize fruit in the space you have available I wouldnt worry about it. It sounds like what you are doing is working for you and just cleaning up damaged or infested wood should be fine. This video was more geared towards those needing to do initial shaping on newer / year or two old trees.
