Want To Become A Poker Dealer? This Is How I Did It

This summer will have about no poker, but it will have a lot of dealing poker. I'm dealing the summer poker series at The Orleans on W Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 Orleans Summer Open is the official name. Here are my tales.

What you forgot to mention was the vision underlying your activities. Your activities were predicated by thoughts of passing the audition and dealing a live table. You knew you could do it but you had no illusion about what was going to be required in order to become successful despite your experience in the game. There is a fine lesson here for anyone looking to do something new and different. Imagine yourself on the stage.

Congrats on executing your plan to deal this year. Not many people achieve set goals, but you prepared by practicing in Dec honing your mechanics, and you landed the job and are succeeding. It’s awesome when a plan comes together, but you earned it!

I did the dealing school route, certainly not required to go to a school, but it worked for me. Big events like wsop or orleans open can help get the feet wet. And besides having abilities, breaks, and courage, timing and opportunity play a role for sure to be hired.

Well done. Would you be happy with a dealing job if you hypothetically had to have a regular job year round and couldn’t be a high volume player anymore. I definitely enjoy jobs more when i know it’s temporary

I wouldn't be averse to dealing but being able to play somewhere is a concern. That and I just have never tried to learn how to riffle. Other than that, I feel like I would be good.

Some cities with only one room allow employees to play. Council Bluffs is like that. In the Baltimore area, you can't, but there are two rooms. In AC I'm not sure, but there are 3 rooms.

One of my best friends Dylan and his girl are both dealers at WYNN poker room... met him and Nathan Greenstein at Oaks Card Club, Oakland CA. He dealt years there then he & his girl went to Bellagio for years dealing everything below Bobbys and Bobbys a few. based on experienced they both got hired at WYNN

Where do you get the fancy tip box that hooks onto the edge of the table? Do you have a locker/change room to change in and out of your street clothes?

Poker rooms have a toke box room (fancy tip box)where they are stored. At the beginning of each shift dealers choose a new one. They are typically numbered and when a dealer signs in at the beginning of his or her shift they sign in and lists his or her toke box number. We have a place to change clothes but I typically just wear my uniform to work. They also have lockers you can get that have assigned keys and locks.

Dealers often own the toke box and take it home each night and keep it next to their pillow at night for safe keeping. Some hire body guards for extra security, because let's face it, you can't keep an eye on that old toke box ALL night. I've heard some dealers hold "girls nights" and decorate their boxes with nail polish, glitter, and stickers of their favorite boy bands.

I think at The Orleans, the dealers own their boxes. I don't have one. I manage without it. -- There's a locker room. Most poker dealer show up in uniform though.

South Point is one of the best dealing jobs in Vegas. Not easy to get hired. And no facial hair last time I checked.
