With growing up comes new responsibilities. You want to play EverQuest again but don’t have as much time like you used to. What should you do?
I’m going to give two options. One for people who want reliable grouping, and the other for people who want a casual way to experience all content including raids. TLP Servers & Project 1999.

As an original EQ player in '99, the lower levels are the funnest. Forget raiding...they suck..suck..and they suck! Your best experiences will be that first time in Crushbone, Blackburrow, Oasis, Chessboard, mammoth hunts etc. The "Magic" of doing things for the first time with others is really what EQ is about....not the loot...well, it's all about the loot but getting your first balanced weapon, or surviving that sand giant train, or falling off the boat from Freeport...and surviving, will live in your memory forever :})

The most fun I ever had was back after kunark first came out. Ended up with about 3 different groups in the lake zone in different areas. Had so much fun in those groups. Gear mostly sucked as we were outside the forts but the people all kicked ass.

One thing you didn't add were the other emulator servers. There are other severs that are made with different rule sets that are completely community driven. I play on the Imperium server, which I view as the server for retired players. I have played EQ since 2000, and these servers are way more fun than I have had on live servers since like 2004.

This is definitely something worth checking out. The most fun I've ever had (second only to being a kid playing on live) was on the alternate, non P99, EQEmu servers. There are so many that have super fun rulesets and some of the small populations make it really tight knit. They are especially nice if you don't have much time as some of them are higher rates intended to be played for fun/casually.

I played from 99 to 2015. I tried to get back into it, but it was just too far gone for me. Makes me happy seeing your content though, the nostalgia of playing my bard. Still to this day, my favorite character I've ever had

Just go slow !! I came back started on Aradune but then had to stop cause of work . The pandemic crap made my work hours longer lol . Any ways, I’m on thornbalde and I’m enjoying the necro play style . Don’t have long hours to log in but in 2 weeks almost 3 actually I made it to 21 No group just on 4 zones alone . 1 to 12 on nectulos forest . 12 to 14 najena front door , then crocs on desert of ro, till 19. Currently killing the island ogres from the translocator zone out on ro desert. Can’t remember the zone lol . Just dinged 21 . I’m not a twink since I like to make it on my own. Some of the stuff I just found on vendors and some from passing players just giving stuff away. Can’t wait to 30s and luclin for bazaar lol have tons of silk waiting to dump on a bazaar toon among other high quality pelts lol . If thorn will behave as Aradune then by end of year most low zones will be empty. I’m surprised how the croc areas are still holding on groups while gfay is empty . Making a DE necro was a great decision. The zones are great to level up. Lol I’m probably going to move to kunark after 25 or so just don’t know where exactly yet lol . Making thorn my home for the long run. On another note my son finds eq interesting and wants to play. Maybe there is a future for EQ . I always said EQ classes are the most fun and unique. I keep going back to it . Most other mmos even wow can’t compare on the way EQ is on its play mechanics. Maybe classic wow but definitely not current wow. Ok I’ll stop typing lol if you decide to come back hop in to a new tlp next year and make a bard I made one on aradune a month after and I was still found groups to level on orc hill and unrest. I would have continued if I had continued. Bards are great on groups.

@@casrogue I was 3boxing bard main, necro, and mage, alts. It was glorious. And I was happy to pay the $45/month to run 3x gold accounts. All 3 toons had aspect of the brood, I would run the equivalent of GM events for noobs on Erolissi Marr server. It was the best years of my life in gaming. But then everything just started getting all messed up. Things like game mechanics that were class staples getting just absolutely wrecked with the nerf bat. I decided to vote with my wallet, and when I stepped away from everquest I realised how much better gaming in general has gotten, how far it has come. And while nothing hits me like EQ did, it's still a past tense that I remember. Because EQ doesn't do it for me anymore.. but I sure wish one of these new games could recapture that feeling. And preferably with style!

Agreed, sometime I log in just to hear the theme song or on special occasions to run from Qeynos to Freeport, memorializing my first month of EQ. Roommate started druid in Freeport, I started bard in Qeynos, we didn't know... and because I miss Norrath. Started just before Kunark and played regularly for 10 years, then occasionally for 6 more. Also a bard. EQ2 just isn't the same, though I'm more likely to log in there then original EQ. I recently started ESO and that has been fun.

If you enjoyed 3boxing you should try out Takp server. It has a smaller community but a very nice one. Right now it's in Luclin and soonish will be releasing PoP. It's more true to what Everquest use to be with abilities lvling up slow and spell abilities also lvling up slowly. There is also no scroll out wheel so to scroll out you have to cycle through using f9. But I've been having a lot of fun on it myself and bc you can three box you can play at your own leisurely pace

I’ve always been an outspoken critic against most expansions post LDON. But I am really, really loving the new classic server that’s out. A lot more people solo boxing and experience is more than fair… Groups galore… Just generally a fun and great experience on Yelinak

Way back in the pre-PoP expansion, I solo grinded an ogre warrior 1-50 (w/ hell levels etc) in about 28 days of play time. I think it took about 3 months and I used a fungi tunic, not super twinked and no PL. EQ now is very different.

I might join a TLP one of these days when I have money and a better computer. It's still a dream of mine one day to see Vox/Nagafen/Innoruuk/Cazic-Thule in actual battle. In the meantime I'm just doing the best I can on P99 green, something my janky machine can handle. And if I can manage to overcome my rerolling problem I'm hoping to try to sneak my way into a raid to see those guys.

You can play either version on a potato haha. But yeah if you want to do all those classic raids, a tlp server and a good guild will let you do that every week.

Same, I missed a lot of content leveling on a pvp server. Sadly P99 was a total let down for anyone who isn't living in the game.

Thanks for the vid! I'm a fan of older PC games and want to get as much out of Project 1999 as possible. However, I also usually only play video games for about an hour every night. And I have quite a few other games I'm playing at the moment. So I'd only really be playing Everquest for a few hours every several months or so. Would you recommend that I play as a solo friendly class (like the Bard) and focus on grouping (as opposed to raiding - which would likely require more time than I'm willing to commit)? Or should I perhaps just skip EQ P1999 until I can make more consistent time for it and, for my MMO fix, play something else?

Thank you for coming by. Yeah you got a conundrum. This game sucks to play solo & it's rare to just pick up a group immediately on logging in & go only an hour. It's probably better try later when you can play like 2-4 hours once or twice a week. Newer MMOS like ESO are a lot better to short play sessions and achieving something.

Raid scene on p99 is whack last I was there. But this was 6+ montha ago. Crazy ass rotations and stuff. Only good for the grouping experience and leveling 1-50ish. To much politics atthe top, especially for a 20+ year old game

There is a way to ask things like that, be clever : 1 ) "come help me to kill this mob cause i need this item". 2 ) "who is available to help me on a named ? i need tank + healer" . On 1 you just tracked the mob for someone else, on 2 you ask for people if they can help you and once you get a friendly answer you know you can indicate the place and named.

I occasionally muck about on the Test server, but I could never play EQ with any seriousness again. It was never a good game, it was just remarkable in its time. It was always about tedious grinding, long, boring, RNG-heavy camps and competing with other twits for artifically scarce resources. I'm kind of embarassed about the whole thing.

Oh yeah then you would prefer P99. It's more old school. The TLP servers share all the same convenience patches that have happened on current expansion servers. But ,soloing is still pretty rough on both P99 & TLPs. Mercenaries aren't added til the 15th expansion is unlocked. It's like 2-3 years away for Mischief & Thornblade servers.

P99 with steep exp loss per death, having to retrieve your corpse to avoid losing items and no map is something you definitely want to avoid if you barely have time for games.

I played on fippy TLP years and years and years ago. It was fun but it wasn't REAL everquest. Way too easy imo. P99 is the way to go of you want that real experience.

Couldn't give you a really good answer on the F2P live servers. It doesn't seem like your too gimped without a membership but I think it get's to a point once your near the 80's where having the weaker mercenaries does matter.

@@IonBlaze1 I have some old grandfathered silver accounts so my merc isnt awful, but I've been told plenty times he isnt good either. Only times I've paid to play was in 1999-2004, and then once on Agnarr. I really enjoyed the TLP server, but due to time restraints was not able to keep up with others. I would truly love to play on P99, but ive already busted 2 computers trying to install it. Thank you for the reply, and thank you for the videos.

For live i found out if you dont have friends u can play and do quests and they are lots of fun and then in the 80s you will start to find groups and such

Looking back at how much the game consumed my life in the 2000's, I shake my head at such a waste my life was during those 10 years. Would literally be playing anytime other than when I would be at work. Now, I would only have a few hours to play on Sat and Sun, and we all know Everquest takes a hell of a lot more dedication than 8 hours a week.

that's any mmo these days sadly. Its all how you WANT to play. you can play 8 hours a week, and be perfectly fine playing at that pace. I played EQ back during SoL and up, and I still from time to time play EQ. "waste of life" is such a terrible way to look at it, so it looks like you have more of a negative view on how YOU played the game. that's not healthy.

Its never too late bud, might be a little hard to get groups but if you come on a weekend with an xp bonus people are grinding alts etc.

The smart answer is to time your max level grind (40-60) to Labor Day. DBG always runs an exp week there. This will provide you with the least stress in finding a group at those later stages.

Ok the advanced loot system is just awful. No matter what anyone says. Oh all p99 has turned into a batphone server. Very hard to find groups. The server is like 70% druids and necromancers.
