The dream of being able to leave our corporate job to go for something that gives us freedom, happiness and flexibility is honesty just a dream... until now. The pandemic proves that right now the world is uncertain and life is too short to work 9-5 and be unhappy. You owe it to yourself to go outside and dream BIG! 💪🏻

Thanks Jessica! I quit my job as an RN last two years ago after almost 18 years in the field. It was not an easy decision, but life is too short to dread going to work everyday. And we’re seeing that our parents, who have spent 30+ years with a company or corporation, are getting totally screwed over. It’s not like our grandparents generation who had a solid pension, and an employer who seemingly knew and cared about them. It’s not like that anymore, there is no feeling of loyalty, or service, that anyone in a huge corporation is making a real difference with “administration” dictating our every move at work. Phew, that turned in to a rant I wasn’t anticipating! Hey y’all good luck!

I'm not quitting corporate, but I do want to quit retail. I cry every day before work. Don't smile when I'm there. People always ask what's wrong with me. I do have 40 years of executive assistant experience and have added customer service to my current job. I would LOVE to start a VA business and have tried but failed. I don't want to put out any more money for courses that just haven't helped. So, I do feel trapped. 😣

I am quitting being stuck on government assistance. I've a chronic illness that prevents me from doing a regular 9-5 jobs but I am tired of being unable to afford to live, let alone get the things I want so I am determined to make the funds to live the life I want no matter my disability. I want to give my child a life that I did not have growing up and break out of the poverty cycle I have been shoved in.

The last 6 months have consisted of me heavily considering leaving the corporate world to start working for myself. I’ve been extremely hesitant to get started because of the uncertainty- not only in the economy right now, but also because I am most definitely one of those “multi-passionate” people which makes trying to niche down seem almost impossible… Ironically, about a week ago I was notified by my corporate job that they will be “eliminating” my position in December of this year… So, I have made the decision to take the next 6 months to really try to make it happen so that I don’t have to continue working for other people. Your videos have truly helped and inspired me to believe in myself and to just take it one day, one task at a time. That being said, I just have to thank you so so much for just being you and sharing your journey!

Jessica, I really appreciate your post, it has definitely given me a boost, motivation to get off my but and rake action. Although, with me, I’m all over the place with ideas and what ifs or should i’s, it’s ridiculous. I feel like I’m dragging a dead horse. So much pressure of what am I going to do with my life, my talent that I always give up before getting started. When I have too much to think about or too many people telling me that I’m too creative to even have a problem making money, that you need to do this or that, I basically shut down and do nothing. I hate my job, I’m at the age of retirement with nothing saved and that is what’s upsetting me most. I should be further along in life whereas I should be prepared to retire with what I need to have already in place and I don’t. I can’t do anything until I start something. I beat myself up all the time, trust me but I have to use the god given talent as an artist to be passionate about the one thing that I love and turn it into a dream job. I took some days off, a mental break, and now is the time to take action. Thanks Jessica

I know 9-5 isn’t for me and it never was. I plan on driving for door dash maybe waiting tables 2 nights a week and grinding on all my side hustles. Has anyone else done something like this? I feel you! My job was giving me anxiety throughout my daily life, and my OCD skyrocketed (since OCD is an anxiety driven disorder). I told my boss about how I was getting burned out (and was still burned out on my days off) and that there should be more than one person running a buffet (cooking, getting food out, keeping coffee going, stocking up all of the utensils and condiments, wiping tables, doing all of the dishes by hand; and then I had to do this as fast as possible so that I would have enough time to clean 8 common areas of the hotel!). Then they started having me unload the delivery truck all by myself. But since they didn't care, they later blamed me for not getting everything done during a 7 or 8 hour shift, and they fired me over the phone. I could take them to the labor board, but they were willing to be my job reference. At the same time, I don't want to work in food or retail anymore if it's just going to be like that again. Been chasing my dream as an artist and am thinking about working for Door Dash or Instacart. Or even for a temporary job agency (because places seem to be a lot nicer to you if you are always the new person). How are you doing now? Would love to know, because it might give me hope.
@xx4741
@xx4741 Жыл бұрын
@@ArtsyMegz_On_Etsy hi!!! I am so very sorry to hear that happened to you! I can’t believe they would do that over the phone. So sorry :( I found out for myself that I lack consistency and discipline big time. I am learning how to care for myself and it is very difficult. I did delivery apps for about 3 months and then found a new job hated it, quit found another, hated it, and I just started another new one today that looks better. It’s with a major car company and I’ll be working in collections (away from the general public) doing admin work. I have a good feeling about this one. I also wait tables on the side which has good moments and some pretty awful days that really get to my depression and anxiety. With all that said. I think you should go after what you want and what feels right both intuitively and logically. Maybe you have much more consistency and discipline than I do, and can make it work! So many people do! I’m a bit like you in the way that I decided I did not want to do retail anymore or restaurant or any of that. I decided I want stability and office work, and something that’s more toned down (hopefully). I still have to wait tables on the side until I at least get caught up on bills and then maybe I can replace that with doordashing again if I start to build that discipline muscle.. The biggest advice I can say (which you already know deep down) is that you are a hard worker, you deserve more than that place. And I deserve more than waiting tables, or selling crap. I believe in you and you can make this work. I know it.

I went part-time at my corporate job this year and I lost my health insurance benefits because of it (most part-time employees aren't eligible for their company's insurance plans). To keep myself covered, I had to purchase my own individual health insurance plan. Most states offer financial assistance programs to help you pay for insurance. I live in California, so I applied for Covered CA and found a cheap plan with Kaiser Permanente. Not the greatest insurance plan, but I don't visit the doctor much anyway.

Hi! So ANYONE have any ideas for someone who has been in the food and beverage Industry as a bartender/server/cocktails in Las Vegas for 17 years? I rack my brain, but I just don't know! 😢

Do you still offer services where we can consult on what avenues there could be based on current skill? The story you mentioned about helping a client pick a business area even when she didn’t think she had any skills is the exact assistance I need and would pay for.

You mentioned in the video that you would put a link in the description of your friend who coaches Virtual Assistants to start their business, but I can't see it there. Are you able to add it please? Thanks :)

The problem with my previous skillset is that I hated doing the parts of the job that I could still do (support) and because of my body, I can't do the parts that I enjoyed. I have an art business that I've tried to build for the last 11 years. It's still only bringing in something like $50 a month. I have talked to so many coaches and fellow entrepreneurs without it making a difference. I do know that my mindset is in order. Several of them have told me so. It's just a tiny piece missing somewhere that will bring me over the top of the hill

Every dollar I make that didn't come from my job is a win for me even if it's only a dollar. It's MY dollar that I made.

I’ve heard that being adaptable is crucial. If most of the marketing models are geared toward teaching and coaching, is there a way your art business could offer one of these options in addition?

@@rewireyourfire Since I don't have the surplus energy for it, I doubt it. I did try that teaching/coaching model but it burned me out with zero ROI.

I'm on a mission to start a business my goal is to get to that point, where my husband can leave the job he's miserable at he's a foreman literally they make him so everything, constantly threatening to fire everyone saying they don't need anyone.. which hmm they wouldn't be a business without everyone but okay😅🤦 and he's just so stressed and mentally exhausted slaving away for $30,000/yr we are struggling so bad with 3 younge babies, we don't have credit cards etc so if we don't have the money for something we just can't get it multiple times a week I'm getting food from food pantrys and trying to get help with bills every months I feel like I'm constantly just trying to survive struggling to focus on actually planning and starting a business! I'm also just very like Judy and criticize myself and never make any content to grow my socials etc. I would absolutely love to pick your brain!

What about those of us who have been stay at home/homeschooling moms, out of the corporate workforce for 10 plus years? The way the world has changed, being a one income household is no longer working for us. Extra funds to start something is very small to none. Any suggestions on that?

Just because there are many different avenues to do like graphic design, video editing, it doesn’t mean that you will find clients or make money off of it. The market is saturated with freelancers and it’s not as easy as you are making it sound like to just ‘start’ a freelance business.

Of course not - a video teaching you everything you need to do to be successful would be hours long - not a KZbin video. The point here is to spark an idea because it IS that easy. If someone realizes they CAN do something, they can figure out the other pieces. And, coming from someone who’s done it - it’s not hard to find clients, you just have to be dedicated

"Irish Exit" ... I had to look that up, only English and Americans say that phrase, its not Irish at all. Probably originated from the English poking fun at the French leaving without saying goodbye. Perhaps the original ghosting, or "leaving like a thief", no goodbyes to anyone, just slipping out the door, but not Irish behavior. :-)
