You need to understand that abuse doesn't happen all day every day. And, more importantly, the abuse can simply be verbal or emotional, not physical and still be abuse. More importantly, most families are a cesspool of abuse. Many people grow up in emotionally/verbally abusive homes and when they meet abusive partners, it takes time to realize you are being abused because the abuse is the "normal" you grew up in and were gaslighted to believe is okay. When you know better, you usually do better. She finally left once she learned her lesson.
