Video produced for the Rupununi Weavers Society by Guiana Sheld Media Project of hammock weaving by the Wapishana in Lethem, Guyana .The Rupununi Weavers Society is an NGO based in the Rupununi savannahs (Guyana), which is designed to offer Wapishana women income-generating opportunities through the sale of high-quality artisanal cotton hammocks produced by sustainable means.
The film and a cotton Wapishana hammock from this project is in the National Museum of Natural History, Department of Anthropology collections at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC .

GSMP ( / guianashieldmediaproject ) is a media development project focused on the countries of the Guiana Shield region of South America. Its primary aims are the production of media items (films, DVDs, websites) which address indigenous, environmental, and sustainable development/livelihood issues and community empowerment and capacity building through training in the use of media tools. Responsibilities have included:
Identification, research and development of potential media items
Training of local personnel based in Georgetown
Project administration and liaison with funders and other organisations.
