On April 30, 2020 I told my husband, if they’ll do that at their state capitols, they’ll do it in DC. I’m amazed at how many people, even in hindsight, can’t or won’t see how Trump’s term in office led directly to January 6. Anyone who didn’t see something like this coming long before the election just wasn’t paying attention.

This guy is pointing out how this privileged group of White Repugs can occupy the Michigan & the US Capitols, and yet claim they are victims. However, the Black protesters outside the MI Capitol, knew there was no way they would be alive today, if they would’ve occupied the MI state house with open carry rifles, and bring weapons into the US Capitol. Yet the privileged group are told by Trump and others that they are the real victims!

Yes... An ocean away, I was extremely anxious in the lead up to Jan 6th (and Jan 20th as well). I was so relieved when DJT was out of the White House without all-out civil war. It's so hard to fathom that people who were in the midst of it didn't see it and sometimes still don't. Information silos are a powerful and scary thing, I suppose...

Are we experiencing the same denial...uninformed...or the hidden "love to hate" syndrome that we are now experiencing in our own country? Are we going to go about our day and if we dont act against these maga people...we are doomed to repeat history? I wonder why these Republicans don't fact check...dont allow any opposition no matter how illogical...how unfounded statements made by the politicians they vote for? He is correct, I am not an American but job postings have had me living and working in America for extended periods. I could never understand why ordinary Americans are so wedded to guns. As I gained the confidence of the Americans I worked with, I became aware of a visceral hatred of many for the Federal government. There is a strong sense of loss, and grievance and victimhood which is rooted in a sense of promises not being kept. White Americans are brought up have a the sense of privilege, of freedom and that America is the greatest and really does belong to 'me' in the literal sense. But life shows this to be a myth. They are not able to rationally deal with the fact that the American economic system is essentially exploitative and they are regularly exploited. Their attachment to firearms is some sort of comfort blanket and a facile means of clinging to the myth of American freedom. Notice how Trump aligns himself with them by always playing the 'victim' card.

There's an underlying, subconscious assumption in American culture imo , fostered constantly by the marketing machine (it sells). "The right to the pursuit of happiness", is translated in many Americans as: " This happiness, fulfillment can only be attained by being rich, outwardly successful". If I'm not then 1) I'm not playing my cards right because I was not given the means to or 2) someone, something, some organization is depriving me of that happiness/well being. Hence that hence of being a victim

I'm Irish. When I first heard reports of rioting that day (while I was at work) I obviously believed that it would be fairly quickly dealt with (or at least contained). Several hours later, after returning home, I was horrified to see just how much carnage had occurred. America's international reputation has never been so damaged in modern times. The vulnerability of the political and democratic systems were clear. The end result of poor education standards, partisan media, shocking levels of lack of basic integrity, etc. This was the crystalisation of the rot within American society laid bare for the rest of the world to see, whether ally or foe. Republicans need to fully understand this. Corrosion of basic values and competence. Deep concern to The West and a wealth of propaganda to enemies. It's not just the usual accusations of double-standards by a major country like America in foreign affairs, it's the undermining of the core bedrock of competence.

Maybe the most important observation Mogelson makes here is how mutable a strong negative emotional charge (anger, loss of hope, loss of a personal sense of power) is to an equally negative administrative power. Once a person loses control of his or her own emotional awareness and discernment they are much more easily controlled by the emotions of someone else. This principle is the root of all cult and abusive partner practices. We are now seeing this basic principle being played out on a world-level scale :-(.

They have to be real careful about how they approach this particular issue. It’s the Presidential position that must be protected from potential damage. It must be handled in a manner that doesn’t seem to be too partisan and that there’s enough evidence to justify the verdict. And the Presidential seat may have to have the powers and limitations edited and proclaimed for ratification publicly to educate the people. From the President to the clergy of this country; too many assumptions of authority has created misinformation and confusion’s. Such ambiguity lead to conspiracies running amok.

In the meantime, for the good of the country, they will let Tisha James take down the Trump crime family for civilian crimes. I hope that at the very least Congress or the DOJ announces that Trump, because of his bad behaviour re Jan 6, is no longer allowed to run for office. I imagine this strategy allows justice without creating further division and harm for the US. I wouldn’t be surprised if the DOJ was expediting the civil lawsuit behind the scenes.

Even their leader (Trump) is a billionaire who lives in a palace. It's what is known in sociology as "aggrieved privilege" . It's been a pattern in American history since we stole the first acre of land from the Indians.

Yes, so it's not minorities--it's corporations. It's always corporations: the disappearance of the middle class, jobs shipped oversees, crappy jobs replacing them with low pay, zero benefits and crappy or unreliable hours. But they would rather blame a human they can see and overpower. They love their violence.

Also all our pols were against him - male, female, black and white. They don't want Julian Assange to be the hero of the people that he is - they want to portray him as the devil. Previously, The Pentagon Papers showed the USA was involved in a not winnable war it was part of US strategy from Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, Johnson, Nixon etc etc. JFK, after he got enmeshed in Bay of Pigs thanks to CIA - began to realize what was going on in our foreign policy and was thinking of disposing of the CIA and talked about getting out of Vietnam in near future - not only said it in his speeches also was seen in his notes (still exists). Well he was assassinated after this.

Thank you for just stating facts and reasonable inferences. I am so sobered by the state of the political minority throughout America. They seem to seethe with anger, directed at random.
@dsddala467

It's not random, it's self serving as the guest pointed out. They look for easy targets, like that one man-child who called out the BLM protester and said he looked "weak," while the moronic militia man stood their with a riffle and bullet proof vest. That's like telling a squirrel it's weak as you run it over with your car. Definitely not an intellectually or emotional honest idea.

"It" is the position atop the patriarchal dominance hierarchy. They are seeing the assumption of their supremacy eroding, and that scares them deeply. They think that they will do very poorly without the longstanding unearned place at the top... Being "demoted" "down" to the place of people that they have stood on the necks of..."forever", is their worst nightmare.

Good interview, but I'm quite confused. It was blatantly obvious to me where all this was going back when the Fine People comment happened. It just seems like a seasoned war correspondent would know more than me. Perhaps because I was also monitoring their online presences, and know the history of the various Michigan Militia groups?

And of course KZbin isn't letting me edit this comment. Anywayz. The hypocrisy is going to keep confusing pundits until they realize that it's purposeful gaslighting. When trying to understand and address the pendulus changes in their beliefs, suddenly a lot falls into place when looking at it from the abusers' mentality of confusing the victims. Continuing to address it as if it's hypocrisy, you're a victim.

“Feeling something rightfully belonging to them has been taken away” This is the story of the Book of Mormon. The Lamanites hated the Nephites because they thought their rightful position of leadership was taken away. They taught their children to hate and eventually both groups annihilated one another. It’s a cautionary tale for our day. Read The Book of Mormon and abide by its precepts

In 2016, I was in France getting my library card. The lady who helped me said her 18 year old son stayed up all night watching the US election. When she left for work he was crying. The rest of the free world just doesn't understand it. I'm a Canadian and we are now touched, but not to the same degree, by this victim culture. I don't know why I came upon this video. Thank You. I understood what you were saying. It is what my thoughts are exactly. #1 These white people will use whatever they can to stir up hate and anger. # 2 They are very envious of any race other than white. #3 They think that this country only belongs to white people. Yet you don't see too many WHITE people doing the grunt work. Too busy at their hate rallies ,and don't want to do the tough work required to have a good country. They think their job is to just sit back and police the rest of Americans to make sure we are following their ideas ! #3 They want another Civil War. Maybe it all started with their upbringing , the bullies we all knew in school. I see no sign of goodness in their groups. And I suppose that is why we have wars. Goodness fighting Evil .

I am anti-Trump and not part of that group but it is very easy to understand it’s the way of life. People that are white and people that have been here a long time don’t want to see their way of life changed how hard is that to understand I feel the same way and I voted for Biden and Hillary because Trump is so dangerous but I feel the same way I don’t want massive immigration and I don’t want the country to change I’m 60 and I want to ride it out the way I knew it. That’s why I live in the country. We are becoming victims when English is practically a second language and our way of life is being destroyed before our eyes.

I want people to wake up. They don’t care if they are being manipulated as long as they are participants in ANY sort of group? If America lost it’s manufacturing economic base it is no one’s fault but our own. We bought into the concept of the ‘service society, using computers, internet, etc. not fighting through our voting to hang on to our manufacturing jobs that essentially made it possible to win WWII. I was raised in the Midwest and witnessed the abandonment of that essentially American idea of a strong middle class based predominantly on our manufacturing capabilities. We elected people who allowed greedy CEOS to move their companies to China where labor was cheep. The excuse was that Americans could afford more if the prices were dropped because production was less expensive. We bought that line and have paid for it ever since. Don’t look to Washington and do the blame game, WE are responsible because we ALLOWED it to happen. We must vote blue to bring it home to the average person and no longer into the pockets of the mega wealthy.
