Interesting on the Alaska setup - grew up in Sitka and Juneau. In late 60's rode in a PBY as a kid, that had been turned into a civilian airliner. The old seaplane base hangers from this time are now the University of Alaska Southeast - Sitka Campus - the apron is pretty much like it probably was back in the day. The road up Harbor Mt. built for the radar is still used. Some people still have old, big, buried bunker Quonset huts on their property north of town proper. The causeway out to the old shore battery locations is still there next to the current aircraft carrier like airport. Based on the cruise ship sizes that come there now, would say there is plenty of sheltered, deep water anchorage for a significant task force for up to carrier and battleship size ships. Couple of name corrections: Its "Ay-dak" and "Yah-cut-at".

A good point to remember about running task forces up north, in the winter,is that they take abnormal damage in the winter. Construction Up North is also half speed during the winter.

It is absolutely fantastic to actually be playing this game for the first time, and I would not have been able to do this without watching your fantastic tutorial series, or this first Let'sPlay. I have managed to follow through both this Let's Play, and Krulls list, with no problems and I'm now up to date with everything done so far. One thing I would like to say, is that at the start of this video you have a transport going from Port Blair to Capetown. I was wondering if it would not be better to send it to Aden, or Abedan, as I know, from watching past Let's Play's that there are several really good Australian, and British units that show up at these locations later in the war. Just wondering what your thought's are on that.

Glad you enjoyed the series and it got you into the game. I said early in the series that if I only got 1 person into it mission accomplished. It is a game you will still be learning things about years down the road

Minefields will degerate over time without an ACM in the port. The USN gets lots of small harbor defense vessels (YP) you can convert them to ACM's in port. Also, the local minesweeping TF's also have a small ASW capacity. They can be effective if the IJN attempt a midget sub attack. re: The Barbara Luckenbach- she and her sister ships can be converted to AKE's (ammunition ship)

To Dojo, On Game Options settings. I have found that it is best for me to Not turn on aircraft turn radius, because it degrades my computer's reaction time to move the cursor or scroll the map. Others may find similar issues. Just be aware.

To Dojo, I have played this game for a few years. I strongly recommend that you (& all others) adjust your Realism Settings for Player Defined Upgrades (which applies to air units) to UP (green) to allow the player to choose which types of aircraft that air units can upgrade to. I say this because I have throughly reviewed the Game Editor, and found a large number of air units with flawed upgrade paths in the Entire War Scenarios. Against the computer, this change will take, even in the middle of a game. If you are unsure of the accuracy of my observation, then please review the Game Editor database files for Scenario 6, for example.

Interesting. I feel as though many Allied players don't mess with the Player Defined Upgrades and it is more of a Japanese option. What do you like about it and what are some good upgrade paths?
@dans.5745
@dans.5745 4 жыл бұрын
@@strategygamingdojo5278 To Dojo, The Game Instructions & Editor Manual are lacking a lot of the details on this subject that I have discovered through trial & error. Both Allied & Japanese players benefit from the setting that allows “Player Defined Upgrades”, which is about air units & aircraft. The primary reason for the benefit is that the database for aircraft & air-units does have issues (omissions/typos) that can be found in the Editor Module. It is possible to fix these issues in the Editor, however it is very labor/time intensive. The easier solution is this “Player Defined Upgrades” realism setting. It actually improves the realism of decision making & provides the players with more flexibility. However, for clarification purposes, there are two types of Aircraft Upgrades that you need to understand for game playing & editor modifications. #1) Is Upgrades & upgrade paths to aircraft being produced with on-map “production” & off/on map “builds”. #2) Is Upgrades & upgrade paths to aircraft within specific air units (squadrons, groups, sections, Sentai, etc.). About #1): The aircraft in the production/build pipeline end up in the “Pool” (on-hand inventory). Aircraft Factories on the map follow the pre-established upgrade paths for the specific aircraft. Examples: The California P-38 factories start with the P-38G, can upgrade to the P-38H, then to the P-38J, then to the P-38L. The P-51 factories start with the P-51B, can upgrade to the P-51D, and then to the P-51H. This follows the historical pattern of actual aircraft production of improved types. These types of production upgrades are NOT affected by the “Player Defined Upgrades” Realism Setting. In other words the Allied player cannot upgrade a Lockheed P-38 factory to make North American P-51B’s. About #2): This is the area that IS AFFECTED by the “Player Defined Upgrades” setting. Each air unit in the game comes with a pre-defined path of aircraft upgrades that the game designers entered into the game’s database. These pre-defined paths may look like this for example: No. 800 Sqn FAA starts with Fulmar II, and its listed upgrade path is Sea Hurricane Ib, Hellcat I & then Hellcat II. The 49thPG/7thPS starts with P-40E, and its listed upgrade path is P-40K, P-40N5, P-47D2, & then P-38L. The path will vary from unit to unit. Some try to follow historical usage, some try to follow a logical or rational progression. Others contain errors, dead-end paths, no upgrades, or frequent switching between P-40, P-38, P-39, etc. I found these errors both in Allied & Japanese air units. In the worse situation, some starting air units are stuck with no upgrades throughout the entire war. When you set “Player Defined Upgrades”, the players have the choice to use the existing upgrade path, or choose a different aircraft for its next upgrade. The “additional” choices are limited to the same role type as the current aircraft (fighter, bomber, dive bomber, patrol, etc.). A US unit currently flying B-17’s would get a list of US bombers to choose from, not a list of fighters. Of course, there has to be sufficient aircraft of your choice in the pool to make the upgrade possible. This option fixes the dead-end paths, and provides more historically accurate choices for the commander to make on upgrading the air units. NOTE: Many air units in the game are missing (in their pre-determined paths) the actual aircraft that they historically flew. I hope this unfortunately lengthy explanation helps.

@@dans.5745 I also always play with Player Defined Upgrades on. One of the reasons is that it allows you to 'downgrade' units. I find that the Allies are very short of certain types of planes early in the war. You often get reinforcement squadrons that have two planes in them requiring a month's worth of replacements just to fill the squadron out. It is then a nice option to just downgrade the squadron to an older type that you have replacements on hand- especially if the squadron is restricted. Nothing worse than having a restricted squadron of Wildcats suck up all your replacements when your frontline squadrons have Buffaloes or your Carriers squadrons are down to their last dozen Wildcats.

Great tutorial. I followed your reasoning and wonder what the reason would be to not send the 'Columbian' cargo ship in Anchorage to Nome to pick up the Engineer unit and transport them to Adak when you set Adak as the long term objective for that Engineer unit to Adak anyway? The transport ship is a bit slow but seems to have enough room for the unit and is not allocated in any other way in your setup.

What about the ships at anchor but not put into any task forces at Anchorage? I just started playing and the spreadsheet and your video don't mention what the plan is for these ships, and I can't understand why they're not taking action on turn 1.

Is there a way to zoom in or out the map screen? I can't find any commands/key to do this, didn't see anything in the manual about zooming in or out...but in your KZbin videos it seems as if you are changing the map screen size. All your videos are the best on KZbin, by the way.

Just a question if I may re the Kamikaze map. I bought the game this morning, patched the game then added the big patch off the forum and then did the set up easily with the Seebee tool and tested the game all works great. The Kamikaze map however I can't get to load up in the game, could you say where that map folder should sit (currently in the Beta2 folder)? Sorry I would post on the forum but having issues there as I can't log in...
