Great series I am really enjoying it! Just in terms of the gameplay. As some have mentioned you are releasing too late not having duds. Skipping is harder/less accurate than either dive bombing with Fulmars or simply low level bombing from stern to bow with the Blenheim, landing both 500lbs rather than just 1 due to the delay between them. This gives better defence against AAA also, as you aren’t going against the full broadside. Coming astern ensures you only face flak gradually also as the entire fleet is much more capable of engaging from the middle broadside approach. Also if you focus the escorting warships first you greatly reduce the overall effective flak your aircraft will face. Including any subsequent aircraft you send to strike. You also leave them weak for engagement by your own surface warships that could more efficiently dispatch an unescorted convoy than your aircraft. The merchant ships are also fewer command points and more readily replaceable as opposed to a modern destroyer. Targeting the merchant ships first and the approach been taken so far is the equivalent of ignoring enemy air born aircraft, bombing the airfield whilst under attack but not bombing the AA defending the Airfield just the runway. Knowing full well you have subsequent aircraft incoming that will have to suffer the same losses because their defence remains strong. Then the enemy filling the bomb holes on the runway with some dirt (easily replaced and built merchant ship) as opposed to losing AA or the defending aircraft (valuable time and command point intensive warships).

@EmothicVonHellsing6 ай бұрын
Given by the large convoy that you completely sunk, and how little troops and supplies they dropped off. Tells me that: 1.) The Japanese are starting to run low on troops and supplies themselves, and are having a difficult time continuing the active land base combat. or 2.) The Japanese are starting to get stretch thin with what as much territory they have to control and engage. Dropping off small portions at different locations to maintain their offensive operations. Either way, with the amount of damage you have done, and by how the Japanese are now operating. This may be the turning point for the campaign.

You ar dropping the bombs too late. The purpose of the skipping bomb is to make the bomb skip, not to achive a direct hit on the ship's side. Your way of dropping the bombs isnt wrong, but if you want more waterline hits you must drop them sooner.

Yep, he is not skipping them at all. He is going for direct impact instead. Which may cause duds (historically) as the bomb may not have time to arm. What you really want is either a hydrostatic pistol or a 4-5s delay. Bomb crashes into ship side, bomb stops movement and starts sinking, bomb fuse explodes bomb next to ship hull under water - tamping the bomb’s explosion and producing a hole well below the waterline, with much higher water pressure to fight against.

You should try attacking the freighters in line with their length at mast height instead of from their broadsides. 4:42 - "It does make things a little more interesting..." No, no, it really doesn't. It actually makes things LESS interesting. At this point, I'm seriously thinking there's a bug in the mod. Your best bet would be to take off the duds completely, and then go into the save file and alter your command point total if possible, as that's probably the only way you're ever going to get a heavier ship...the game doesn't give you enough command points to have a hope of getting anything major. Getting three command points for sinking six ships when a battleship is at least 50+ command points is near hopeless.

Most likely the surviving crew were trying to save their ship rather than abandoning, and fires cooked off her ammo magazines causing an explosion that killed everyone. Kormoran was able to sink Sydney because her captain unwisely closed to point blank range before challenging Kormoran to prove her identity. This allowed Kormoran's gunners to score many hits with the element of surprise.
