Many people also call ‘sideskirting’ as ‘sidescraping’ and is generally a term used more often by World of tanks players, as sidescraping is an important skill to have in that game. And of course being a tank game, people who played wot and are now in WT use the term sidescraping more often, since it is still a tactic that does work in both games obviously.

And not sure if it works the same in both games but probably does, a shell that hits at an angle between 70 and 90 degrees always ricochets unless it is HE. Think of skipping a stone over a lake. The lower the throw the more likely the skip. This way you are controlling the lake surface instead of the throw. Make it skip and you live. Of course these tricks only increases your chances of survival. But it can’t hurt.

I thought sidescraping was when you back up from a corner with only the side armor showing. I used to use that tactic a lot back in the day but now I'm a lot more confident about peeking out and getting a kill shot off quickly.

Well to be clear, don't give more than 15 degrees of side. APFSDS has 80 or so max degrees it can be effective at against armor.

Doubly true for russian mbts in 2024. If a dart plunges into your hull from even a 10 degree angle, that dart will go into the ammo carousel. 99 times of 100, the tank just dies. The other 1 time, they are utterly disabled.

As a Tiger main, i can say that without angling it's quite impossible to play against the Jumbo and KV's, otherwise you can yeet other players with a KV2 and M4A3E2 without this technique.

Major issue with casemate TDs is that angling can limit your ability to shoot.

One tip is you are usually better if your tank is on a slight incline especially with sloped armour, so if you are on a hill it is better to be a bit behind the hill with your front pointing up and shooting over the hill at the enemy. In general for angling I just try to remember the phrase point your corners at the enemy

From my personal experience, the KV-1 is the Angling Master relative to it's BR. The only things it has to watch out for are high caliber HEAT and HE shells, everything else just bounces off. It's even more effective at it than the T-34.

That tank is unreasonably good un this game. Basically you hold w until you get near the enemy ,then angle. It brings results. And why is this so ? The maps are either small with small streets or are hilly terrain that create "streetlike" corridors.

@Tankenstein Late comment I know, but I just want to say thank you for posting this video. I watched it during work and got home and jumped into my Tiger E. First map I was deployed in the Northern section on the map Advance To The Rhine. I went to the East side and kept watch down the long road on that flank. Got into a long range shootout with a T92 which was hidden well. I was able to bounce 3 shots off of him before I was able to take him down. It's probably not a big deal to other players, but damn did it feel good taking what I learn from your video and putting it into practice. Instant subscribe after that. Thanks again.

Even with angling there's not much you can do when it comes to using the 76 Sherman's, their br is too high for their armor to really be effective at all unless it's a jumbo, and even then that 76 is at 6.0 or 6.3 now so

Gotta love that the t25 is at 6.3 when it has no reason to be since they took the stabilizer out, put it at 6.0 so the US has a lineup there again, and lower repair costs because it does not need to be almost the same as the super Pershing, nor does the regular Pershing need to be more than it, especially when the t26e5 is less than even the t25

How th are you even struggling? Judging by your progress in your tech tree, you should be able to aim with any planes (assuming you play RB) The only thing i can tell you is to get used to aiming. Takes a couple dozen matches before you can be good with a single plane. Once you are good with a single plane, it usually only takes a couple matches to get good with a plane you just unlocked

I played a crap ton of world of tanks before I came to war thunder so I call what you were explaining side scraping instead of skirting because the terminology just kind of makes sense it's hitting the side of your armor which scrapes and bounces off , when I play world of tanks I use my vk36 01h because of the amount of shells that I block I can even stop kv2s from killing me with that tank lol

The panzer 4 crew size also makes you think you can survive a shot or 2 penetrating you from everyone else's weaker ammo type it feels.

..Trust me.. Do not Angle at Super High tiers.. You will just get LolPenned through the side. Even if its just a small bit showing on your side. It WILL go through. May not kill you, But a mobility kill of your engine will end you one way or another.

I think you could do a follow up video more from the players perspective than the armor strength analysis and maybe show of a couple of common Tanks (Shermans, Tigers, Panthers, IS1+2 and such) with the Tiger I used to try to have my gun aligned right over the edge as a rule of thumb and that usually worked quite ok but for the IS2 for example I really have no Idea how to point it to survive anything.

Ya well I haven't played since the release of jets like in 2015 or something. I hopped in a Tiger E after some mid grinding. 4 matches later I "hit" and then I got one tapped by T-34 through my front 110 mm plate. This is so historically inaccurate I literally had to google it, and it clearly states, "The Germans also noted that the T-34 was very slow to find and engage targets, while their own tanks could typically get off three rounds for every one fired by the T-34. As the war progressed the Germans created heavier tank designs like the Tiger I or Panther which were both immune to the 76mm gun of the T-34 when fired upon from the front." BRUH.

Don't let historical facts confuse you. Russian tanks have zero biases. T-34 best tank ever (excuse my sarcasm) Truthful fact the cold winter weather conditions in Russia definitely defeated German tanks more so than Russian tanks. After all Germany made it past thousands of T-34 carcasses on the way to Moscow destroyed by Tigers and Panthers, But don't let those facts get in the way.

@@jwar2163 Yea stalingrad wasn't till later in the war, but yea Germans definitely learned the hard way what Russian winters do to Tracks and unheated tanks and actually lost a lot of men just due to basic hypothermia which is such a logistical error that costed them greatly. But still War Thunder gets rid of historical accuracy for "fairness" and an unrealistic arcade-y style gameplay thats so fked right now, they should just flush it and restart.

What for? You dont really need a guide for those tanks. Pretty self explanatory Plan your move, dont hold w, make sure you know what is going on (where your allies are, a rough estimate of where your enemies are). If you dont, retreat immediately. Try to go with allies or snipe. Applies to 90% of german 7.0-11.0

I was warned that my usual tactics in world of tanks won't work as well here. The game physics feel different so my guess is that apart from the really basic concepts angling in wot ways will likely get you unalived in warthunder Edit: I am still a new player to warthunder myself after moving from world of tanks recently so I could be wrong. i was a main german player, but i stopped playing when i get the tiger h1 and panther D. Like, it doesnt matter when EVERY GAME is uptier you will get blasted making the diamond formation or not, and u have to fight against tanks who is more nimble than you, the turret movement fast than yours, the reload rate faster than you and can kill you with one shot in most of the cases. So if u are strugling with german, just change to russian or eua, its a change of life and help with your mental health kkkkk. And thats why german players lost every game in this tier, cause like EVERYONE they push the ''w'' button, but the enemy always have their cannon on you faster than you can put you aim in them, thats why german lost a lot of games in a row, you need to be a good player. In the other nations, a average player do the trick.
